    LYRICS (English Translation):
Tick tack tick tack my heart beats
I can’t stop this feeling running wild
Tick tack tick tack my heart beats
    I can’t stop this feeling. I scream
    Hey, it’s my afternoon snack!
Wait. Wait. Wait. Don’t take it in advance of me!
    All yours are also mine
I was left alone. I looked up the sky
    What a sentimental night!
I’ll go, driven by this feeling
    running away from the reality
    So good. So good
The party under the night sky
    So good. So good
    I’ll go brilliant
    That for now, moshing up
Taking little by little is impossible
    Yeah, yeah
    It’s too transcendental. It’s perfect
    A gal must have
    a dream which is surely
    super-chaotic
Sway your head! Take off your glasses!
Swing your head! Take off your glasses!
Sway your head! Take off your glasses!
What a jammed, bursting, over-packed rucksack
    Take it off right now
    Yo! Yo! Yo! Yo!
Microphone check. One, two. One, two
    Are you ready to mosh?
    Are you ready to mosh?
    Put your fox sign up!
It’s a fox sign, you know?
(It’s not a maloik sign but a fox sign)
(Not a sign of the horns but a fox sign, you know)
I pledged to myself by linking my little fingers
    What a sentimental night!
I’ll go, driven by this feeling
    running away from the reality
    So good. So good
The party under the night sky
    So good. So good
    I’ll go brilliant
    That for now, moshing up
Taking little by little is impossible
    Yeah, yeah!
    It’s too transcendental. It’s perfect
    A gal must have
    a dream which is surely
    super-chaotic
    (So good. So good.)
    Yeah, yeah!
    (So good. So good.)
    Yeah, yeah!
    (So good. So good.)
    It’s super-chaotic.
    Yeah, yeah!
    (So good. So good.)
    Yeah, yeah!
    (So good. So good.)
    Yeah, yeah!
    (So good. So good.)
(So good. So good. So good. So good.)

Well it is a deep look in the ancient history of Babymetal. It was in fact a slight fight behind it. Their Manager wanted them to perform Metal. In a way they were afraid of it. In a way Kobametal changed his approach on the fly. He had a rough idea what he wanted but it was not their fault if something didn't work. He wanted them to see what he saw in metal and was ready to go with them on a small excursion. To desensitizevhis girls and give them new impressions. They were not only his performers but also his target audience. They have now about 40% female fans and all ages between 5 and 85. This is the target audience they attract and this was sufficient to transform them to the most succesfull japanese Band. Not Bad for a small side project that was originally intended only for the japanese market.

I love many things about this fantastic song, but one is that the choreo hasn't changed in 12 years, because they nailed it the first time.
Also, an excellent reaction, I appreciated the analysis and insights, thank you.

    Excellent video, thanks!
You know it's earlier stuff when you see Su-metal with twin-tails and Yui and Moa without them. 😁
"Iine" was their second song ever according to the official releases and it's also their craziest one. It was like this because they had zero intention to get pigeonholed into a sub-genre. This was the materialization of Kobametal's crazy idea of combine metal with j-pop elements. It was actually a gamble. A gamble that turned out pretty well.
And you are right about the metal elitists and gatekeepers... I know it because I used to be one of them. To the point I almost lost all my interest in music. But then, I discovered BABYMETAL and I promise I was the first surprised when they got me hooked from the very first moment and I eventually became a die-hard fan.

Excellent reaction, that was 'so good' (literally since that is what iine means - think thumbs up emoji👍). It was only the second song they released, so 2011 I think (it was their third song but IDZ, which was the second song they performed, was released later). This performance was in 2012.
They were clearly establishing very early on that all the usual rules of what you can do, what genres you can mix into one song and so on were not going to apply to BABYMETAL.
What they did here was they tore up all the rules on how music must fit into one of the many imaginary boxes people have in their minds, then they wrote their own rules ... and they tore them up as well. If they want to have a song with EDM, hip hop, death metal and more EDM to finish then that's what they will do.🦊🤘
So EDM, a bit of hip hop/rap and then that drop into death metal (they did warn you - "Yo yo yo yo. Microphone check, one two one two. Are you ready to mosh? Kitsune da o!")🦊
Quite possibly the best drop into death metal from hip hop ever - and then back to the EDM to finish. As the song title suggests - it is so good.👍
In most live versions they swapped the rap and it became a call and response (they kept it in some live performances of course - "BABYMETAL in da house!") ... but that drop is still there.
In this instance the growling vocals in the death metal part are explaining the hand sign is not the traditional metal devil horns or maloik,🤘 it is the kitsune (fox).🦊
When you see the guys in skeleton suits, they were not a real band (BABYMETAL didn't have the budget for a live band yet) - they were called Babybones and they were on stage just for show, the instrumentals were all pre-recorded. Babybones first appeared in the first music video ('Doki Doki Morning') in 2011 and on stage from quite early in 2012 until their last appearance early in 2014.
The Kami Band (the live band) first appeared in October 2012 and they played 2 encore songs. From there on they played a couple of festivals and came on to play the encores in some shows until early March 2014 when BABYMETAL played at the Budokan in Tokyo and the Kami Band became their full time support for all live shows from there on.

I was really impressed to your first reaction to Babymetal. Everything I liked about that you again exhibited here. Close observation, thoughtful, insightful comments and I loved your stated reasoning for going back to the beginnings. Guys a really superior reaction. I'm probably not the first and doubt I'll be the last to point this out but at this stage Babymetal didn't have enough money to hire a live band for concerts. What you're seeing here are the Babybones. A group of actors hired to mime musicians while playing to a pre-recorded track-the girls are live no worries there. Soon they would start introducing the live band for selected numbers-as their fanbase grew. And soon after abandoned the enthusiastic is somewhat kooky Babybones for good. Oh and so glad you picked up on the amazing stage presence and confidence they had even at this stage. The gatekeepers to me are a sorry lot. The performances just look and sound so good. And once one begins to understand really all these teens went through to become the performers they were and are. Well I don't understand how anyone can't respect that!

Haha amazing reaction! This song is their 2nd single, and back then (I believe this performance was ~2012), they were just getting big in Japan (not yet international). Quick tidbit on their band:
*Baby Bones:* The guys in skeleton costumes are a fake band while the music was played on a backing track with live vocals. Babymetal couldn't afford a real band fully early on.
*Kami Band East:* Their real band joined them for encores starting 2012, then fully starting 2014 until Jan 2023. They are some of Japan's best session musicians in white corpse face paint and white robes depicting "Kamis" (Gods/Spirits). Kami East had a very stable core group of members, with a few additional members rotating in occasionally.
    Mikio Fujioka - Guitar (RIP)
    Leda Cygnus - Guitar
    Takayoshi Ohmura - Guitar
    Bohte Daisuke (BOH) - Bass
    Hideki Aoyama - Drums
*Kami Band West:* In 2019, they added 4 American musicians to assist with increased touring and switched both bands' attire to black robes and masks. Since Apr 2023, Kami West became Babymetal's sole backing band, and they were the musicians you saw in Divine Attack reaction.
    Chris Kelly - Guitar
    CJ Masciantonio - Guitar
    Clint Tustin - Bass
    Anthony Barone - Drums
Former 3 are members of the band "Galactic Empire", Anthony was ex-Shadow of Intent, and Ryan Neff (Bass) replaced Clint briefly due to Clint's prior engagements while on tour in 2023.
    Suggestions:
*Headbanger (Legend 1997):* Dec 2013 show celebrating lead Su-metal's 16th birthday, with Kami Band East for the 5-song encore (including "Headbanger").
*Rondo of Nightmare (Budokan 2014):* Dark, ominous, and heavy. 16-year old Su-metal shows off her vocals with an amazing solo, while Kami East shows off with their incredible intro solos.
*Road of Resistance (Official Live):* Jan 2015, by now, Babymetal is international and in full swing. You'll see how epic and amazing they are as bonifide stage generals. This song is a collab with Herman Li and Sam Totman of Dragonforce (co-wrote guitars, and played the guitars for the studio recording).
*Metali (Official Live):* Nov 2023 performance of their newer single, you'll get to see them now in their mid-20s. This is a fun festival song with Tom Morello as featured artist contributing guitar solos.

    _Kitsune da O!_ 🦊🤘🔥
It actually sounds like "e - neh" instead of spelling the first two letters, but at least you didn't fall in the common mistake almost everyone does with this title and writing "Line" lol
Last weekend they played a short setlist at Sick New World Festival and you can also see a recent interview with the girls super excited to play in the same stage Slipknot returns, they're very good friends since early era along with DragonForce which btw they played at the Babyklok Tour last week.
Iine! is one of the early songs, 2nd single released, making us clear they don't wanna be pigeonholed. It's a super fun party night song with their besties and you got everything you need on this song, from de "Para Para" style, eurobeat and MoiMoi chemistry (Moimoi is Yui and Moa together doing their thing), to a hip hop with 90's vibes and heavy metal with death growls breakdown, is a beautiful crazy dream and is "Iine" = 👍
Note: this is one of the few songs I always recommend to watch the official MV first coz that brutal breakdown and the visual hits harder. Megitsune, Doki Doki Morning and Karate official MV are another one worth to react the MV for first time watching.
Song was part of a single and first collaboration with the band Kiba Of Akiba, they made a cover of one song called "Kimi To Anime Ga Mitai" (the only cover they played several times at live concerts before 2014) and Kiba Of Akiba did Doki Doki Morning, an interesting upbeat tempo version.
Except for certain songs like Headbanger!! and IDZ, SuMetal doesn't shout those parts you heard during live performance, is always a backing track, same for the growling except for Distortion after 2019, that got collaboration growling of Alissa White-Gluz from Arch Enemy band, also none of the Kami Band do growling or any voices on any song. MomoMetal, the new official member also did some growling lines in the live version of METALI!!
The live version certainly is a blast and you'll see some difference on dance choreography, live at Budokan 2014 is a nice choice to enjoy the original trio once again and with a real band playing behind instead of the "baby-bones" you saw here air playing instruments, that's the first fake band they got when performing live but after 2014 they completely switch to the Kami Band.
Last year they brought back this hit live at PIA Arena MM in Yokohama and later at the Asian/Australian Tour after almost 6 years without playing when YuiMetal left the group, we'll see in future shows but like always OTFGK. (Only The Fox God Knows).
That ludicrous hip hop breakdown always get everyone lol.
See you next time and like SuMetal said in the rap section "Put your kitsune up!" 🦊🤘🔥

I highly recommend you watch the official music video for this song or you'll never understand the changes, especially in the second section. When I first saw it I had a total 'WTF!?!' moment. Now when I watch it I laugh :) I hope when you get around to watching their first single, 'Doki Doki Morning', that you'll react to the official music video. Babymetal there was no band at the time, they sang with a backing track and the Babybones pretended to play, only in 2012 they had the Kami Band Oriental with them for the first time, but they sang and danced. Even without a full band they simply did their best, as Babymetal's bassist Boh once said: "The band was only successful because of the heart and effort of the three girls, that's why Babymetal is the success it is today."

It's not often I see reacters reacting to tis version of "Iine!" It's not just "an early song of theirs", it is their second song (following "Doki Doki Morning"). So, what genre was this song? Most of them! 😁
The “I was not expecting this” and “WTF did I just watch” are the typical reactions among first-time BABYMETAL viewers. A lot of their songs tend to get that (especially this one; the MV is even more mind-boggling) - even after watching a number of them! Anyway . . . .
You’ve opened a can of worms!
BABYMETAL has an extensive history (and lore) which I won’t get into but a quick synopsis: they’ve been around since 2010, and started when their lead singer - known as Su-metal (Suzuka Nakamoto) - was about twelve, and the two "cheerleaders" (officially "scream and dance" (backing vocals)) - Moametal (Moa Kikuchi) and Yuimetal (Yui Mizuno) - were both around eleven. Unfortunately, Yui left the group in 2018 because of health concerns, and early in 2023 Momoko Okazaki (Momometal) was named a member of the group. They do not play instruments but are backed by the Kami Band - session musicians who are among the best that Japan (and the U.S.) has to offer.
BABYMETAL started a brand new genre of music ("kawaii metal" - cute metal), and they cannot be pigeon-holed - they are almost always thinking and moving outside box; they made listening to metal FUN! They have, to date, four studio albums, and have been on a number of world tours. It is common knowledge among their devoted fans (known as "The One") that BABYMETAL is best served live, but they do have several music videos that are real works of art. I suggest you go back to the beginning, and react to their first two music videos, "Doki Doki Morning" and "Iine!" (pronounced "E-nay"), both released in 2012. You’ll notice those are the first two on this list of these recommended songs (along with suggested versions):
Doki Doki Morning (official music video)
    Iine! (official MV)
Gimme Chocolate!! (official MV or Legend 1997 Apocalypse version)
    Megitsune (official MV)
BABYMETAL Death (Legend 1997 Apocalypse version) [for those who are religiously sensitive, see the Budokan Black Night 2014 version]
Onedari Daisakusen (Legend 1997 Apocalypse version)
Song 4 No Uta (Budokan Black Night 2014 version)
Uki Uki * Midnight (Budokan Black Night 2014 version)
Catch Me If You Can (Budokan Black Night 2014 version)
Ijime, Dame, Zettai (Live at Sonisphere 2014 version)
    Headbangeeeeerrrrr!!!!! (Legend 1997 Apocalypse version)
Road of Resistance (Legend 2015 New Year Fox Festival version)
    Karate (official MV)
Meta Taro (Five Fox Festival version)
    GJ! (Fox Festival 2017 version)
Sis Anger (Fox Festival 2017 version)
    Shanti Shanti Shanti (official MV)
    Pa Pa Ya!! (official MV)
    BxMxC (official MV)
    Metalizm (official MV)
    Metali!! (official MV)
I would include the links but, for some reason, TH-cam sometimes thinks I'm posting spam and will delete my comment. For the links, see the TH-cam playlist “BABYMETAL Top Twenty”; it is a mix of MV’s and live performances, is more or less in historical sequence, and could be considered a road map down the BABYMETAL foxhole. If nothing else, it can be used as a reference to find high quality versions of BABYMETAL songs without mucking about - if they are on the list. Anyway . . . .
Another recommendation (read "challenge"): react to an entire BABYMETAL concert. I suggest "Legend 1997 Apocalypse" and/or "Budokan Black Night" (2014). There are playlists for both on the HEAD123456 TH-cam channel. Both concerts are, in a word, incredible.
Technical suggestion: when you pause, rewind the video five or ten seconds to regain the flow of the video. 😉
Enjoy your trip down the foxhole! (You're in for a wild ride!!!)
Keep rockin' BABYMETAL!!! (Sorry about the wall!)
    KITSUNE UP!!! 🤘🦊🤘

I listen to everything from Classical to Death Metal. I absolutely love this song and Babymetal. Many; if not most Japanese bands now blend genres. Honestly, this is why I enjoy Japanese bands. I am an older metalhead, but hated the stagnant direction of the music a couple of decades ago. It took a band like Babymetal (my first experience) to realize rock/metal was still alive and interesting. I’m sure you can understand from all of the bands you have reacted too. Thank you to Babymetal for rekindling my enjoyment of music and introduction to so many great bands.

  • @jonabitstream
    @jonabitstream 22 วันที่ผ่านมา

It's important to note that the Gatekeepers who dislike BabyMetal are not actually accomplished metal performers. BabyMetal has either performed with or been endorsed by most of the biggest names: Metallica, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Korn, Dragonforce, Bring Me the Horizon, Rob Zombie (who has entered online discussion threads, arguing with his own fans that BM is wonderful), Judas Priest/Rob Halford, and others. This, to me, means that the people who actually make the best metal music, who know how difficult it is to do well, and who know what it's like to face a tough crowd, say BabyMetal is ALL THAT!
Thank you for you very skillful look at this music and these musicians.

  • @autohmae
    @autohmae หลายเดือนก่อน +7

Thanks for this reaction, not a song I would have expected, but you got a bunch of things right, it's definitely a party song and specifically Babymetal party song.
This is Babymetal's second released song or at least MV, it was meant to make clear: genres are not a boundary when it comes to Babymetal.
4:56 no worry, that sound did not come out of that little lady. 🙂 Especially not live, it probably also didn't come out of her in a studio either. Remember they were only 13 or 14 when this song was recorded in the studio. This is not a good idea for such a young voice in development, well, especially some 13 years ago. These days, we know a lot better how to train for such vocals and specialized vocal coaches know this.
Imagine a producer, he used to work with bands, but asked to work with kids. He notices 1 was hugely talented singer, but her style was loud. And he thought, maybe I can combine it with the loud metal music he loves, Babymetal was made with a love for metal by talented hard working people to create a special metal experience, with a wink and and a smile meant to bring metal to a broader audience.
It would not have worked without especially the talent and hard work of the young ladies. And especially their passion to perform live.
While the guys in skeleton suits here are not real musicians yet, they didn't have the money yet for a full time live band.
From the live musicians who did come later, who are session musicians with a love for metal music with lots of experience working with all kinds of artists, they've said:
these girls are the most professional artists they've worked with.

    • @autohmae
      @autohmae หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      I should maybe add:
The producer wasn't sure this would even work, this idea makes no sense on paper.
Which is also why he didn't get the usual funding from the company, Babymetal build it their fan base and budget themselves over time.
My recommendation for an other reaction would be: Rondo of Nightmare with the mischief of gods intro from Budokan Black Night 2014.

Also, the dichotomy between the heavy metal (and techno-dance in this one) and their kawaii singing and dancing style is way more obvious in these old videos when they were younger.
They're a blast! Hope y'all keep enjoying! The journey is long, expect the unexpected around every corner!

They say that two wrongs don't make a right. But that three lefts do.
And this song has a lot of sudden left turns. : )
    This is quite early.
BABYMETAL were still described as the "Heavy Music Club" sub-unit of Sakura Gakuin.
The single was promoted on the 'Sakura Gakuin 2011 Nendo: Friends' album.
They had 'Ijime, Dame, Zettai' ready to go, but released 'Doki Doki ☆ Morning', followed by this song so they wouldn't be constrained into a single genre.
'Iine!' is still my favorite EDM Dance Rave HipHop Kawaii Metal song of all time. : )
They hadn't performed this song live since 2017, but brought it back for several shows last year.

This early song gives some insight why BabyMetal were originally so divisive in metal land. As an old guy that has been listening to metal since the beginning, I am a firm believer in a big metal tent. When the Kami band became part of BabyMetal, there should have no longer been debate as to whether they are metal (fun fact: Shiren, a founder of Unlucky Morpheus, had a brief stint as a member of the Kami band). I am not a huge BabyMetal fan but I would love to see them live. The Other One would not be in my top 25 metal albums of last year but it is still a solid metal album.
Unfortunately the gatekeeping still persists. The worst offenders might be the folks with Metal Archive. They still have not deemed BabyMetal worthy. They have yet to bring in Hanabie either. Those two are in good company. Between the Buried and Me, one of the best prog metal bands of all time, is not worthy. Periphery and Animals As Leaders are also not worthy. Apparently Amaranthe is not metal. Slipknot still does not make the cut.

Not being alowed into metal archives is the greated endorsment you can get these days.
It means Babymetal and Hanabie are too non-conformist for them LOL.
Let's face it the people behind metal archives are probably nerds on a power trip and their approval is not needed.
Rob Halford's approval and endorsement is a million times more powerful and meaningful than the non-endorsments from a group of website owners.
I think it's hilarious that the people at metal archive don't actually understand what metal is. The pretensiousness of those people must be comical to behold.

@@tackle47 I think the people behind metal archives are the 'i'm to metal for my shirt' types of metal heads. They think they now own metal itself and should have control over it.
Metal was never meant to be about rules, control and neat labels, this is why unorthadox metal bands and groups are giving them anxiety attacks.
The funny thing is they go to sleep and dream of being famous metal stars and the bands that they shun go to sleep to take a rest from being metal stars.
Those that can, do, and those that can't...set up an encyclopedia of metal to cope.

Kobametal: "How many genres do we want to cram into one song?"
    Babymetal: "Yes please!"
Iine! Is Babymetal's manifesto song stating that they will not be boxed up or pigeon-holed into any one single style or genre of metal or music. 14 years later, they are still blending all styles and genres with metal, making every song unique and different. You will not find two Babymetal songs that sound alike. Now with the addition of Momometal, they are able to take it to the next level with her contrasting sweet kawaii and deep growling vocals.

I believe this was in the anime convention in Singapore. What makes this even more impressive is seen in the documentary made about this show.
The girls were 12 and 13 at the time. This was the first overseas show they performed and one of the largest crowds. Usually they performed with SakuravGakuin but they were booked to play as just baby metal so they usually had 10 or 12 girls to support each other but this most important show of their young lives they were alone. In the documentary you can see the girls back stage before they go on and they are terrified. I can only imagine being 12 years old playing in a band that played a music that had only learned and didn't understand and going our to perform sink or swim. They show a close up of Yuiright before she goes on she is anything but fearless, she is terrified as anyone her age would be but none of them pauses for a second when they need to be on. All three of the girls have been performing professionally for years at this point they know they are ready and scared or not this is why they are there.
They absolutely kill it and amuse sees what they can do and finds the finest session musicians in Japan to back them up.its not cheap but you can see the results.
It's a toss up who drags this group into international superstars. The kami band are great but without the talent the girls bring they would be playing jazz clubs in Tokyo. The girls are great but wit the kami band sonisphere wouldn't have taken them seriously

to the people who still want to gatekeep metal -- sorry, it ain't 1985 anymore.
back then, it made sense -- back then, it was the counterculture of the disaffected and a sort of "voice to the voiceless" ; but "metal" has evolved and matured A LOT since then , and is now impossible to gatekeep and doesn't even make sense to try anymore.
(granted, there are still some niche sub-genres where it still makes sense; but certainly not in the broader landscape)
To take it a little further .... the very concept of Babymetal actually almost feels like a sort of "post-irony" statement , which is where i happen to get a some part of my enjoyment of this group (i don't know if that has anything to do with Kobametal's underlying intent, so i'm probably giving him a little too much credit for his accidental genius 😂😉🤘)

I don't believe Yui and Moa are teenagers yet. Su may be 12/13.
They did not what metal was when they were selected for Babymetal. In fact, it sacred them.
There is no band, they are dancers miming playing the instruments. It's a backing track. Kami band came later.
Key Kobayashi, aka, Kobametal is the creator of Babymetal. He discovered Su when she was in Karen's Girls. He recruited her for Sakura Gakuin. He believed Su voice could work with metal music. He kinda lucked out that Yui and Moa joined at about the same time. They were selected, no volunteers!!
See Yui and Moa's audition video - th-cam.com/video/JCzvmlXZFho/w-d-xo.htmlsi=bbQ4cFYNbKXTaRW2 They are 10yo!!
They do not compose the songs or the lyrics. They were promised that the lyrics would always be positive. Su had input as she was the singer and she had to be able to sing the song.
Babymetal was not suppose to last past Su's graduation at 15yo. But it did. Except Yui and Moa stayed in Sakura Gakuin. Moa being the class president and Yui as Dance Chairman, their last year.
Understand they all attended regular school. Sakura Gakuin was after school and weekends. By law they could not work later than 8 pm.
Moa was a straight A student.
Their 10th anniversary interviews are the best in-depth interviews and they can be found in Reddit, in English.
