“It’s luring them in with plot, and giving them story instead.” This couldn’t have summed it up better. Great advice from Seth Rogen.

"Trick people into seeing a movie that is smarter than one they would want to see." I've never heard the difference between story & plot widdled down to something I can actually hang on to. Thanks, Seth.

@JoshNortonalias It implies the exact opposite. If he tought the audience was stupid, he woudn't be making a secretly smart movie. It works because people connect to it. They are using people's expectations, not their inteligence. Most filmmakers do the opposite. They make empty packages.

that reversal is part of Joseph Campbell's "Hero's Journey" also called the "Monomyth". In the journey (about midway or the middle of the second act), the hero eventually succeeds in his goal . The one that was assigned to him in the start. The plot. The unforseen consequences of achieving the goal cause a new set of more serious problems (end of second act). The hero realizes what he/she truly wants and needs to do (the story) and sets forth into the third act for the climax.

@@SHVDETHEDONIf you mean that you want to understand further, basically, plot is the events: the what, the who and when. The story is the core of it, the philosophy, the SOUL I would even say, it's the themes.
A movie's plot could be about robots and humans at war in a post apocalyptic setting, but the story/themes is about what makes us human, the meaning of war, the meaning of lives and etc.

"Why not." There are always reasons. Please tell us why we should subscribe, and not why we shouldn't shouldn't. Also: it's a bit long to put this after a 3 minute video, to go into the introductionary "hey thanks for watching" Just say: "If you liked this video and want to contribute, then [insert action here] so I can make more and keep them coming for you. If you want to contribute but can't, please just enjoy them, because that's my ultimate goal. Thanks"

Thank you for that thing about 40 year old virgin. That title made me think it is going to be "crap" and just a lot of chilidsh cheap shots. Instead I found the movie to be quite solid. But with some funny childish cheap shots that worked cause the movie actually had some gravita. My point is, you nearly scared me away with that title. Anyway. Nice trick. =) Superbad is fantastic in so many ways. Love it. Have yet to see Long Shot.

Smart-dumb comedy. What he’s saying has merit. It’s interesting and he’s right. It seems simplistic and obvious but if you don’t get it past that then I’m not in any state of patience to explain it.

You don't need to relate to people to give a great movie. Authenticity with enough creativity will draw people in.
I don't want to see my life in a movie. I'm watching movies so I don't have to see my life.

Yeah pretty sure high school musical or Twilight was more well known than whatever movie he is talking about.

Say Seth hows does you? Your brother Joe will be investigating your jokes, as he has reignited his passion to investigate comedians who steals jokes(if that is a real crime). He will be reviewing all your bio and work to ensure everyone that your a "verified" comedian. Also that part where the girl dances on Jonah Hills' leg and leaves a love slap, I nearly ran away from the TV. so ya live and learn, also you need to make a movie about time travel and morals. thanks
