What madness, 80% of these movies mostly just focused on political, military, or scientists bullshit instead of Godzilla, I saw Shin Godzilla and he shows up like 8 minutes, meanwhile 3/4 of the movies involves computer desks, scientists, people talking.
Everytime I get info about a new godzilla movie, I get all giddy inside and can't sit still.(plus one when it's a toho godzilla((see what I did there 😉) ) It's the only thing that can make me feel like a psyched out kid again.
We gotten a Kong anime, then we're getting a Gamera anime, the Monarch series, a new Toho Godzilla movie and a new sequel to Godzilla vs Kong. Us Kaiju fans are eating good right now.
Great thoughts Bill! I agree I hope it doesn't copy too much from 54 or lead into a remake of it. I am hoping it starts a new Toho film timeline as well. I do have high hopes, I like the director's style and saw many similarities from his work on the Always 2 Godzilla sequence. Also Goji's design is cool and I'm glad that they went with a more traditional look this time around

Regarding your concerns about this being canon to G54, I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if the plan at Toho is to have this film essentially take its place in a new Reiwa Series timeline. This is simply speculation based on the fact that we don’t know exactly what year this film takes place in (“Postwar” in Japan basically didn’t end until the Economic Miracle in the 60s).
I love Heisei Godzilla so having a similar fave has me on-board, I also really like the dark tone Godzillas so I'm intrigued to see how they'll handle the falout left behind Godzilla's wake and potentially if there going for a more '54 approach what symbolism of the atomic age they'll incorporate.
Well, I'LL definitely watch it. Once the canon gets wonky, I try to consider each movie it's own thing, so I'm not super worried about if this is makes sense with any other parts of the franchise.
The Japanese release date is "Minus One" years before Goji's 70th anniversary. I'm tending to think this isn't a coincidence, so this early synopsis prediction sounds on point.
Looks great! I like how this one's design is reminiscent of the Godzilla that appears at the beginning of "Always 2," which makes sense since it's directed by the same guy doing this one. The movie's slated for release in the US on December 1, and my only hope is its a wide release and not a limited, Fathom Events-type run. Fingers crossed!

It’s been 2016 since we had a Japanese Godzilla film. (A Cgi film in Japan) I kinda like it how Toho makes Godzilla the villain and Legendary makes Godzilla the Hero. The fact that this takes place post war around the 1940s. If Ishiro Honda, Tomoyuki Tanaka, Eli Tsuburaya, and Akita Ifukube were alive, they would be proud at their creation. Can wait to look at this film, and can’t wait to watch your review of Godzilla: Minus One…whenever that will be. I can’t wait to look at Godzilla bringing his rage on Japan once again.
I think the movie is called -1 because the events take place before the original, and the Twitter page had a picture of posters of all the Godzilla movies in order, but there was another division before the original that had nothing on it - this movie, which also takes place before the original (1954) - in 1945-46.
I feel like the original 1954 movie is too sacred to remake. It's a piece of art, and had Seven Samurai not come out that year, it would have been the best japanese movie of the year. I don't think they should be remaking it, but another Godzilla story set in the past, is an interesting idea. I wonder though. Is it gonna be yet another solo movie? Or is there gonna be a creature to fight here? Shin was carried by the fact that Godzilla was so bizarre in it. Having the next movie also be a solo movie, but with a less impressive Godzilla, would feel like a step down. Also, sad that rubber suits are out for good. Shin at least looked like a suit for most of it's scenes, but I am getting a legendary style cgi vibe here.
We already had 3 godzillas who all act the same (shin, ultima, earth) so a more normal and expressive godzilla would stand out from the more experimental ones in the reiwa era. It doesn't have to be odd or weird to carry a film. It should of been obvious since 2016 and 2017 suitmation was not going to be a primary need for toho to make godzilla films

It has been said that Shin Godzilla has no sequel. It is a standalone film and that it will have no sequel. Anything Shin now is just for pure marketing purpose.

I'm so happy because I honestly haven't loved any Godzilla designs from 2014 on. The moment I saw those Heisei-era scutes on his head I was excited. I love this Godzilla's look.

That quick shot of Godzilla attacking something always freaks me out. I think part of what makes it scary is that he almost looks like an attacking dog. Like he's just a wild animal lashing out. For some reason I think that's really scary for Godzilla to be like that.

Well back in 2017 they teased a Kaijuverse with origin stories of all the monsters, which will culminate in a Destroy All Monster finale. This was the reason for the no Shin Godzilla 2
It absolutely breaks my heart that they aren’t going back to suitmation. The millennium series at its best showed that the Godzilla suit could be an incredible special effect with the aid of modern technology. Given the near certainty that a fully CGI Godzilla will be a little lackluster coming from the Japanese film market, seeing them go this route is a letdown. Surprised that I haven’t seen this sentiment posted much.
Dude we're getting a suitmation short film later this year, the concept isn't completely abandoned but it's not what toho will use as the primary thing to bring these films to life. Also you do realized shin gojira had some practical effects in it right?. Shin gojira had good cgi and so far this film does as well, it doesn't have to be Hollywood level of cgi. Especially when Hollywood cgi is bad at points, compare the cgi of kotm to the cgi of shin and tell me which looks more natural If toho has the technology to go full cgi then they'll go cgi. Why would they use suits as the default other than to appeal to purist?. They still acknowledge suits but will only only them on special occasions
@@Kaiju-bm4ts Japan will never be on American level with their Cgi. Shin worked so well because Godzilla had barely any screen time, and he was very stationary in most shots. And even then, there were couple of very badly done shots, that sticked out like a sore thumb. Also, they did build an animatronic for Shin, but they claim they didn't use any footage of it in the movie. Personally I think Suitmotion peaked in Revenge of Iris, and yet it's been over two decades since that movie came out. With modern tech, they could do wonders with practical effects.
@@transformersrevenge9again WHO is comparing that let alone expecting Japan to be on par with America in terms of cgi?. If their cgi still looks good with a lower budget then does it matter?. Shin literally has more screentime than godzilla did in 2014 so please don't say it worked because he had so little screentime. It works because it does, cgi and all. Even people who don't like shin will admit the cgi does look good. The animatronic was not used at all, the cgi was done to purposely look like a suit which is why shin moves slow as well to mimic the movements of said suit. They aren't bringing back practical effects the same way they used to. They have the technology to use cgi more often so they'll use it. Practical effects were only used for so long because it didn't take Hollywood til the 90s to use cgi the way they do now and even then cgi was still new to everyone back then. Both shin ultraman and shin gojira used practical effects, just not for godzilla so what difference does it make?. Godzilla can work in any medium regardless if he's practical or cgi or animated 2d or 3d. He's a versatile character for a reason

The new Godzilla design Looks like the Godzilla from Sunset on Third Street in steroids. I bet this film is what happens if Serizawa didn't use the oxygen destroyer
It's a reboot. It's gonna be a reboot. They got kinda burned on Shin Godzilla not getting the sequel that was batted around, so I bet they're going with re-doing the Showa era, but keeping the movies a little more serious (given that the American films are, at this point, much more Jun Fukuda-era than they started out being). And ya know what- good. The first Gojira is a masterpiece but it's flawed to hell and back. And Raids Again kinda sucked. So... do something a little more in line with Honda's preferred vision, make the movies they simply didn't have the means to make. If we finally- F I N A L L Y- get more Anguirus two or three years from now, it will all have been worth it.
As a Godzilla fan and somebody who is visiting Japan, you should easily see the symbol of Godzilla while also resembling a "G" total in theme with Japanese culture and art. Other than that great break down on the trailer and other references.

Well I'd be up for a loose remake of Godzilla Raids Again with Anguirus fighting Godzilla in the 1950s period, Do an 1960's Rodan and Mothra movies. But I'd kind of feel like after that I don't think doing any more period piece remakes would be a good idea, maybe if they wanted to lead things up to a Ghidorah the Three-headed Monster to cap off the series off films.
It's such a great shame that the Godzilla ride film is not also at Universal Studios Hollywood & Florida. There's been a couple of different Kong rides at Universal Studios over the past 30 years, but why not Godzilla ??? At least there are videos of the Godzilla ride on TH-cam.
I kind of hope that Minus One will be to Godzilla, like what Peter Jackson's King Kong was to the original 1933 King Kong. EDIT: I do not want it to be a bloated shot for shot remake of Gojira. That was the Peter Jackson movie's mistake for most people. I mean that I would like Minus One to be a modern remake set in the showa era, but still giving us something new and get us emotionally invested in. This is the first modern Godzilla movie to be a period piece after all.

Well back in 2017 they teased a Kaijuverse with origin stories of all the monsters, which will culminate in a Destroy All Monster finale. This was the reason for the no Shin Godzilla 2
It absolutely breaks my heart that they aren’t going back to suitmation. The millennium series at its best showed that the Godzilla suit could be an incredible special effect with the aid of modern technology.
Given the near certainty that a fully CGI Godzilla will be a little lackluster coming from the Japanese film market, seeing them go this route is a letdown.

True that. With Legendary movie coming out so close to it Japan will sadly not live up to American standards of Cgi.
Dude we're getting a suitmation short film later this year, the concept isn't completely abandoned but it's not what toho will use as the primary thing to bring these films to life. Also you do realized shin gojira had some practical effects in it right?. Shin gojira had good cgi and so far this film does as well, it doesn't have to be Hollywood level of cgi. Especially when Hollywood cgi is bad at points, compare the cgi of kotm to the cgi of shin and tell me which looks more natural
If toho has the technology to go full cgi then they'll go cgi. Why would they use suits as the default other than to appeal to purist?. They still acknowledge suits but will only only them on special occasions

@@Kaiju-bm4ts Japan will never be on American level with their Cgi. Shin worked so well because Godzilla had barely any screen time, and he was very stationary in most shots. And even then, there were couple of very badly done shots, that sticked out like a sore thumb. Also, they did build an animatronic for Shin, but they claim they didn't use any footage of it in the movie.
Personally I think Suitmotion peaked in Revenge of Iris, and yet it's been over two decades since that movie came out. With modern tech, they could do wonders with practical effects.
@@transformersrevenge9again WHO is comparing that let alone expecting Japan to be on par with America in terms of cgi?. If their cgi still looks good with a lower budget then does it matter?. Shin literally has more screentime than godzilla did in 2014 so please don't say it worked because he had so little screentime. It works because it does, cgi and all. Even people who don't like shin will admit the cgi does look good.
The animatronic was not used at all, the cgi was done to purposely look like a suit which is why shin moves slow as well to mimic the movements of said suit. They aren't bringing back practical effects the same way they used to. They have the technology to use cgi more often so they'll use it. Practical effects were only used for so long because it didn't take Hollywood til the 90s to use cgi the way they do now and even then cgi was still new to everyone back then.
Both shin ultraman and shin gojira used practical effects, just not for godzilla so what difference does it make?. Godzilla can work in any medium regardless if he's practical or cgi or animated 2d or 3d. He's a versatile character for a reason

I don’t think they’re going to remake the original movie. This film looks like it’s going to be the closest thing we have to a remake of the 1954 film.
As if American movie audiences complained about remakes and reboots of their films. Makes me wonder what Japanese audiences think when they see remakes and reboots of Japanese films ?

It's a reboot. It's gonna be a reboot. They got kinda burned on Shin Godzilla not getting the sequel that was batted around, so I bet they're going with re-doing the Showa era, but keeping the movies a little more serious (given that the American films are, at this point, much more Jun Fukuda-era than they started out being).
And ya know what- good. The first Gojira is a masterpiece but it's flawed to hell and back. And Raids Again kinda sucked. So... do something a little more in line with Honda's preferred vision, make the movies they simply didn't have the means to make. If we finally- F I N A L L Y- get more Anguirus two or three years from now, it will all have been worth it.

As a Godzilla fan and somebody who is visiting Japan, you should easily see the symbol of Godzilla while also resembling a "G" total in theme with Japanese culture and art. Other than that great break down on the trailer and other references.

@@BigActionBill it means you made a comment that you didn’t see the Godzilla symbol, but rather you saw a “G”, I was just commenting that it is clear st least to me and that if you actually go to Godzilla day in Japan, that from a cultural perspective on art and being a Godzilla fan, I’m perplexed that you can’t see the head, dorsals, and tail, uniquely embedded into the G that you see. I lived in Japan for almost 2 years and it’s pretty obvious to me. But I also thanked you for your video, not reason to take offense as none was intended.

Well I'd be up for a loose remake of Godzilla Raids Again with Anguirus fighting Godzilla in the 1950s period, Do an 1960's Rodan and Mothra movies. But I'd kind of feel like after that I don't think doing any more period piece remakes would be a good idea, maybe if they wanted to lead things up to a Ghidorah the Three-headed Monster to cap off the series off films.
I’m glad I can be excited for a new Godzilla movie again. after the disaster that was Godzilla vs Kong, I didn’t really care about Godzilla x Kong 2.
I would say this Godzilla movie is pretty close to a remake already for the 1954 Godzilla.

It's such a great shame that the Godzilla ride film is not also at Universal Studios Hollywood & Florida. There's been a couple of different Kong rides at Universal Studios over the past 30 years, but why not Godzilla ??? At least there are videos of the Godzilla ride on TH-cam.

I kind of hope that Minus One will be to Godzilla, like what Peter Jackson's King Kong was to the original 1933 King Kong.
EDIT: I do not want it to be a bloated shot for shot remake of Gojira. That was the Peter Jackson movie's mistake for most people. I mean that I would like Minus One to be a modern remake set in the showa era, but still giving us something new and get us emotionally invested in.
This is the first modern Godzilla movie to be a period piece after all.

More like "scene for scene". It's set in 1933, like the original and recreates so many classic set pieces from the original King Kong. Just with more meat added to it.
