I just noticed rewatching this for like the 8th time, but those 1950’s and some 1960’s A zildjians actually are hand hammered not machine hammered. You can see a big shift in the sound around the 70’s which is also when the Istanbul factory for K zildjians shut down
For sure! The particular A Zildjian in this video was definitely machine hammered. Very uniform and consistent. Plus the stamp indicated it was not a K Zildjian.
From what I can find on the history of the Avedis Zildjian Company, ALL of their cymbals made in America, including their version of the "new" K's have been machine hammered. Only the K's made in Turkey prior to being made in America were hand-hammered. In my opinion, the best American-made Zildjian cymbals were the "new" EAK and IAK ride cymbals.
My two 'jazz orientated' ride cymbals are an older Zildjian K 22" flat ride and a Meinl 'Vintage Pure' 22" light ride. Both have a lot of stick definition the Zildjian K has a higher pitched 'crystalline' sound and does not crash well vs the Meinl is darker and dryer and it does double as a crash. They provide interesting contrast in ride cymbal voices during passages in jazz tunes. Out of this group in the video I really like that Zildjian K light ride they are all nice though.
@@austinhass2638 You’ll never get that Tony Williams sound from budget cymbals like the ZBT line. Tony play Istanbul Mehmet cymbals , and they’re not a budget line, they’re hand crafted and expensive.
@@brent3760 I’ve never seen a 20” in person so I can’t compare. But compared to some of the other cymbals I have this one seemed lower. Thanks for watching!
Very nice presentation. I couldnt hear you to well , had to put phones on .Been playing on and off for a long time. Since 1962 started but playing in bands 1967 and up .Jazz is my preference but had played in rock bands as well. Thanks.
very quiet sound, can't hear speech on a laptop at this volume. (probably need a lavalier or dedicated vocal mic when recording the whole session via the drumkit overheads or whatever it is you are doing here. the cymbals sound great, agreed, perhaps the vocal mic ducks when the overheads signal hits... dunno)
Thank you for presenting this. I have to tell you the miking of the cymbals were not very prominent. When you played the drums they over shadowed hearing the cymbal. so for me it was difficult to really hear just the sound of the cymbal. It may have been more beneficial just to play the cymbal by itself for most of the demonstrations and play a few crashes. I think the Zild. K light I liked the best. Again thank you for your presentation.
Hi Stephen, I did play the cymbals alone a little bit before including the full kit but maybe some more of cymbal alone would be helpful. I wanted to give some context for each cymbal. Appreciate the feedback. Thanks for watching!
22" K Light Ride! Not a repeat post...It is a repeat sentiment!! I love this ride although I think Austin doesn't much care for it...everyone hears thru their own ears....Peace!
You're trying to record the sound of a cymbal you but can't even control the volume of your voice? There are many TH-cam videos showing the sound of cymbals, but none offer such an underground introduction. Finally take the mattress out of your mouth and speak more clearly!!!!

Love em all! Great collection of rides and very nice playing showcasing these beautiful instruments!
Thanks for checking them all out!
Not sure about the rude comments regarding your voice, I can hear tou quite clearly.
Super enjoyable video.
Subbed !
hopefully in the future I can get some more mics involved for this type of video. Thanks for watching!

All great cymbals you've listed there. Thanks for watching!
Nice collection and nice playing!
Thanks for watching Craig!
strongly advise you to look into the Zildjian ZBT ride, it gives you a spangalang that cannot be replicated
As long as I can get that Tony sound 🐯

@@chuckc7375 it's obviously a joke, dude.
@@chuckc7375 there are many handmade mehmet rides below 400 € and sound very good
The Manhattan 20" has a steep/high profile. Interesting that the 18 is a lower profile.

Awesome collection, I really dig that Mehmet. Great playing too!
One of my favorites as well! Thanks for listening!
Are you playing a Gretsch Catalina Club?
Yes I’m playing a catalina club 18”X14” bass drum. The snare is a Ludwig Supralite 14”X6.5”.
The vintage A is my fav of the bunch
@@brent3760 I really like that one too. Unfortunately I sold it a while ago. Thanks for watching!
22" K Light Ride!
I found this cymbal in Vienna, Austria and brought it to Zurich. Beautiful instrument.
Great presentation, thanks a lot!
It sure is a nice one! It's a very versatile cymbal. Thank you for watching!
Was kann ich an meinem pst 101 brass 20 " ridebecken noch besser machen das es noch besser klingt.😅
Very nice video! A veteran myself I’m impressed of your presentation 🙏🏻

Great video!
Thanks for watching!
Great video. Thanks for this!
Thanks for watching!
Wow, nice presentation thanks. Not hard to see/hear why Keropes have held their value over time ✌️🌻
Thank you for taking a listen! Yes they are a timeless sound 🥁
Great content, thanks
Thanks for watching!
You should try some KCons , they are really nice.
I have a few now and I like then a lot!

At the time a Zoom Q2N was the best audio I could capture. Hoping to pursue better audio in the future!
Which snare do you play?
In this video I was using a Ludwig Supralite 14"X6.5" steel snare. I have several others I used as well. Thanks for watching!
Don’t sleep on the Paiste 602s! They are ear meltingly good!
They definitely are!
I like the sound of the Istanbul Mehmet and the K Light the best of that group you've got there. nice collection amigo
Those are definitely stand outs in the bunch. Thanks for watching!
That 21 legacy……. Droolin!!!!
It’s a really good one!

Drums and a vibraphone.. Lionel Hampton fan 🤔👍
I try to keep my mallet chops in shape 😅
that 22 K light is the winner for me
Unfortunately I sold that one recently for something different. They are amazing rides!
I want a paiste rude ride
Unfortunately I don’t own one. Thanks for watching!
22" K Light Ride!

Unfortunately I ended up parting ways with this cymbal. It was beautiful but didn’t fulfill my needs.
Flat ride cymbals 3:40
That's the one!
For sure my favorite would have to be the Mehmet!
Mine as well! Thanks for watching!
That snare sound is proper as F
Thank you! Something about Ludwig snares just works…
Poor quality volume on voice. Cymbals fine but mike yourself
Definitely for future videos. Thank you for watching!
Imho he's talking top much...
And that’s why there are time stamps so you can skip straight to the playing. Thanks!
