  • Today we’re going to be reviewing and installing a smart lithium battery from Antigravity. The stock battery in my S4 Audi has become weak and the car is throwing occasional warnings. As this car is heavily modified a light-weight lithium solution made sense and our friends at Antigravity came through with a solution.
    Antigravity H7/Group-94R 60Ah - bit.ly/H7Group94R60Ah
    Ross-Tech VCDS - bit.ly/rosstechvcds
    CTEK 56-926 LiFePO4 Charger - amzn.to/3LsYhRM
    The installation is as simple as any other battery swap. The car does need to know you swapped the battery via adaptation coding, but this is required for OEM battery replacements too and is easy to do with a variety of tools. I will show you how to use Ross-Tech VCDS to perform the battery coding.
    I love the smart features of the battery. Having an integrated battery management system is a great way to ensure a wide variety of cars can accept and manage the lithium battery without wearing it out. The BMS system also features protection for over-charge and over-discharge as well as short-circuit protection. These are great safety features and maximize battery life. These batteries can last from 7 to 9 years.
    The remote start feature is also really neat. Having a dead battery and waiting for a charger or being stranded and having to find jumper cables is never fun. The wireless keyfobs are a great touch especially for a trunk mounted battery like the S4’s.
    The following video production gear was used to make this video:

    Samsung SSD 860 EVO 1TB - amzn.to/3nGdDmZ
    SMALLRIG Camera Cage Z6 - amzn.to/3qyB5pw
    SMALLRIG Side Wooden Handle Grip - amzn.to/3su299x
    SMALLRIG Top Handle Grip - amzn.to/2Lz3U4L
    SMALLRIG Articulating Magic Arm - amzn.to/3ifjXka
    SMALLRIG HDMI Cable Clamp - amzn.to/38I6RZu
    Thin Mini HDMI Cable - amzn.to/3oMKx6y

    30lbs is a huge weight saving. Nice work!

      Yep its pretty good for a battery!

    Congrats!! I should have waited for this video. I just had the dealership put in a new battery, and it looks to be the same amount of money, for a lighter one.

      Wow! What were they charging for an OEM battery? Too bad, because if the money is the same there's no reason to even consider OEM.

      @@DmitrysGarage I think they said 700 or so for the battery, Plus installation.

      @@Kiss__Kiss That's definitely more than I would have expected, but dealers do love to make money on stuff like that (tires, maintenance, etc...) I had one telling me spark plugs in my A4 at the time were some insane price when a toddler could have swapped them. They were right on top of the engine unlike the S4 here!

      @@DmitrysGarage Exactly!!! I paid because I needed it done asap. And yes, I also have a B8.5 allroad. So I believe they are pretty much the same(Sans being a Gen 3, as on your previous A4).

    Good evening Mr. Dmitry,
    Going off on a tangent, sir, what type of ceramic coating do you recommend for a 1/2 ton truck, sir?
    Also, what type of “sacrificial” topper do you recommend?
    Thank you, sir.
    Respectfully,
    Robert

      Robert, I'd go with something like the Adam's Graphene liquid coatings, I just tested Exoforma Graphene Ceramic and it was great too, basically any of the good liquid formulas. For a topper, I personally only use them to mask areas that had premature failure, like high wear spots, or substrates that don't take coatings well (i.e. chrome). I think really any of the decent sio2 sprays would be fine. I was pretty impressed with the Adam's Ceramic Boost. Ethos Resist is cool, the Phoenix EOD Titan Detailer has some really cool slickness properties and coatings aren't always as slick as one would like on their own.

      Works great, haven't had any issues. Seems to fire up the car faster, but could have been the old battery getting weak before.

    Any reason why you didn't go with the 40ah for the most weight savings?

    • @DmitrysGarage
      @DmitrysGarage  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Mainly because I wanted some balance in total available power and weight, didn't want the bigger battery but also was worried 40ah may be a bit small for the car and all its gadgets potentially impacting battery life. I do still drive this car the most so need it to be fairly reliable.

    is there a difference between the 60ah and the 80ah? Does it affect the cars performance?

    • @DmitrysGarage
      @DmitrysGarage  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It mainly affects how long you can have the battery run without the car running but also should last longer in general. If you got say a 20ah ud be cycling it much faster

    By throwing codes what do you mean? Did it say to charge the battery

    • @DmitrysGarage
      @DmitrysGarage  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      For when the battery started to fail? Yea it would display battery low messages even though the car only sat a day or two. Sometimes even after a decent drive.

    Not sure if it applies to B9 but these lithium batteries caused a misfiring issue on wide open throttle on a B8 s4. th-cam.com/video/qIbGEbod8Bs/w-d-xo.html

      That's really interesting. I wonder if his had a defect, but also maybe it was too small. He's got the tiniest racing battery in that video, that little guy is just 22.5 Ah. Those really aren't meant for street applications. If he had it for a while I could see it wearing through a lot of cycles. He even mentioned it came out of another car (RS3) and it may have even sat for a while since he said had to recharge it. I'm not sure while Braille recommended using it for a street car though. I really can't see lithium being an issue here, it sounds like it's just his battery.
