Bought one after watching this video . Tried it out today and found it to be very nice . Never used an airbrush with a trigger before so it took a minute to get used to . I find that using my middle finger to control the trigger and laying my index finger alongside the airbrush was most comfortable and very controllable .
Some of the Badger airbrushes use a similar nozzle setup. I find it more comfortable to place my index finger along the side of the airbrush pointing at what I'm painting and use my second finger to pull the trigger with this style airbrush. Thank you for sharing the info on this airbrush.
Your killing me Robert ! I'm saving up to get a Gaahleri Swallowtail and you show us these. They do look beautiful (I kinda like the Walnut handle but not the Mac Valve) and apparently spray really well but I'll keep saving. Maybe I'll look into them as a backup. Thanks for a great video.
So I have a 91 civic I painted black and just put acrylic vallejo space dust for the paint job and the compliment on "the paint job" are fun. I also painted it with a .2 needle airbrush kit compressor combo from harbor freight
That brush works well an don't put out a lot of paint an no mess when you were making your fine lines I really like looking for things my brush does an that is a awesome brush thank you for sharing this video
I was considering going for a cheaper version but I still went a bit further and bought the gallhari ghad 68 and don't regret spending the little extra
Saw this review and bought 2 on Prime Day this week. Ive switched primarily to these pistol style airbrushes, mainly using my Grex .3 and .5's. Figured two more would be great too.
Robert using the 0.8mm for Createx Wicked Colors, I spray those with my 0.3 Mobius :P They're a wonderful line if you take the time to get to know its quirks
Yes, I do too... lol Yes Createx is a great paint. I use it all the time... Most bottles say 40- 50 psi with a 0.5 needle or better out of the bottle. So Robert read the label man... Lol I use Createx all the time and thin them with washer fluid from Wally World... 😁 LLAP 🖖
Nice airbrush for the price an thank you for the video on this an as always thanks for the time an effort you put into your videos for us Robert 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Hey my friend this is the kind of air brush I would use for every thing because I would know what size needle is in it because this black box set up is hope an pray well an alot of sanding an resanding an it sprays nice an I have seen you using the greenish one some also keep the great videos coming great job thank you
thats a nice lookin brush. but i wonder if cleaners will tear it up also. could always re-stain it. handle looks a little small for me. but i have sausage fingers too. lol
Nice presentation with the wood, but I just purchased your Swallowtail to go with my Gaahlery 68 and I think I'll be fine now with my "recommended by BR" arsenal of airbrushes ( Badger 105, GSI Creos PS289 ++) and other tools etc. Never miss your videos Robert but man you are keeping me poor. Cheers
With the Mac valve you can tweak the air flow through the air brush nozzle without touching the compressor air regulator. Helps when painting the same color but for different effects, like he demonstrated light shadow effect, by tweaking the Mac valve. I have a cheap one off of Amazon, still learning/experimenting with it.
These brushes looked like they performed very well, however, I have big hands myself and those handles seem to be too small. Would be uncomfortable for me to use. Hope one day they would make these in a dual-action top lever button type.
I just got a swallowtail and am finding it’s not good for large hands, either. I’ll keep trying, but that piece of plastic sticking out is exactly where my little finger needs to go.
@@barbatosrex9473 What's the performance and price goal? More like a Sotar 2020 (which I need to replace in 2 or three months as mine broke) or more like an iwata or steenbeck?
@@barbatosrex9473 What about an adapter to convert it from a regular gravity into a side feed? Would give people the option to choose which way they wanted to use it then.
AMT is hit or miss. Some of the really old toolings are garbage. However, new toolings from the 90s were pretty good. The 2022 Dodge Charger the released last year and the new police Charger is excellent. Fitment was as good as Tamiya.
The adjustment at the rear doesn't adjust the amount of air. It acts as a backstop for the needle so that you can set a limit to how far back you can pull the trigger. This limits the amount of paint that comes out (needle further back = bigger opening at the front = more paint coming out). It can sometimes be useful as a bit of a safety if you're painting something delicate and don't want to risk accidentally pulling back on the trigger too far and drowning the model in paint.
the mac valve one looks so much longer! is there any performance difference having a valve build into the airbrush vs having one connected to the bottom inline with the air hose?
Aloha, love your content as always. Hey, I was wondering if you would be willing to sell a couple of those push on fitting that You said you end up throwing away. They are good for hose repair and I can't seem to find them anywhere for sale. I know this is probably a little weird but it would sure help a brother out. Of course I'll gladly pay S&H as well. Mahalo for your consideration, Stephen
@@boomerrubble Please do and I will as well. Spraygunner has a listing for them at $1 each but they haven't had them in stock in quite some time. Cheers!
I really don't understand the small paint cups. Its not like you can't just put a small amount of paint in a large cup and if you want alot of paint you can do that too. The small cup just adds more cost for little utility imo.
Plus in a bigger cup you can easily wrap some paper around your finger and get your finger in there to clean it easily. The only reason I can see for it is if you are having a hard time seeing past a bigger cup while doing close up work or something.
@treborrrrr I believe that's exactly what the smaller cups are all about, the large cups can block your line of sight view, smaller cups much less so. But your right cleaning them as well
They wood handles, both of them are pretty. But 90% if my paint is solvent based, and i'm a clutz, so it take me long to ruin the finish. But for $50 who cares, its all about how they perform.

Don't fret over the Bronco kit not having an engine. On the 1:1 scale new Bronco's when you open the hood you can't see the engine anyway!

i like the toolless nozzle change of the harder & steenbeck airbrushes
One of my next purchases most likely lol. I just started and totally hooked . Thanks for the great videos and reviews .
You're welcome buddy
There's a fan airbrush for less than 30 too. Works amazing
Awesome review. Looks like a great airbrush. Thanks for sharing.
these are awesome with the .8 needle it can make painting a PG shield much easier
Maybe I can finally get something to spray my tamiya gunmetal with dinner plate sized flakes without clogging 😂

Thanks for the review Robert. I'm adding one to my wish list. 👍👍
Great video my man. I just tried the alclad candy red on that exact same model. Looks great. Wish I could show ya
The nozzle is unique, but I much prefer the compression fit type.

I built that new Bronco a few months ago. It is a very good kit, however. they should have included an engine🤷♂️
Awesome! I wonder if the inevitable lacquer thinner spillage on the wood has any effects on the coating of the wood
Almost guaranteed it will. If the wood is actually wood.
You can spray for 3 minutes from start to the compressor came back on so yeah the brush is a great on

The lighter one is my pick also
I may have to get one just because of the wooden grip handle
If they were smart, they would sell that handle separately.
I was writing about extra tubes while I was watching this video ( great minds think alike- LOL )
Run those spoons through the ultrasonic cleaner. It will take the factory mold release oils right off, no sanding needed.
Going on my to buy list.

Im not a fan of a 'mac' valve but could put up with it for the walnut. I was gonna get a ''Swallow Tail" lol.
I just purchased a swallow tale AB :)
You bought the right one 😀
Already have yours so I'll stick with it though I wish you'd do something between 0.15mm and 0.18mm.
Designing a new airbrush and I'm trying to work in a needle under 0.2mm
@@barbatosrex9473 What's the performance and price goal? More like a Sotar 2020 (which I need to replace in 2 or three months as mine broke) or more like an iwata or steenbeck?
Probably closer to the Sotar. Might even go with a side feed as there aren't many on the market
@@barbatosrex9473 What about an adapter to convert it from a regular gravity into a side feed? Would give people the option to choose which way they wanted to use it then.
We're working on an adapter that turns it into a siphon feed

The Gaahleri is better, superior nozzle
