I know right? After being a long time fan, I haven't checked on the channel on in a couple of years. Maybe since Holly left? No fault of their own, just doing more PC stuff rather than PS4 these days. I was weirdly proud to see him look better. Not sure if that's a recent development or not, but GG Dave!

Sad to say, mine is Skyrim. Played the first hour of the remastered version on PS4 and couldn’t get into it. Did that about 5 times. Then, one drunken night, I just kept going, and going, and going. Now I’m second play through going for the plat. And before you ask…. yes, stealthy archer.
I actually became addicted to Skyrim. Family was talking intervention at one point....

@@sockey9940 I didn't have a problem until they got old enough to play their own games. My 8 year old is a beast on Hollow Knight, and I don't have the heart to stop him so I can play.
Why yakuza is good if you don’t know
1- one of best protagonists in gaming
2- amazing supporting cast
3- deep serious main quest
4- side quests are wacky and funny, so you can chill from the violence
5- amazing voice acting and music
6- mini games
7- fun combat
8- you really feel for the characters
9- travel virtual japan during a pandemic
Final Fantasy 7 remake: As someone who never thought I'd enjoy a fantasy style game, I decided to try it when it was free on PS Plus after I saw the stream Dave and Rosie did on it & I enjoyed it so much that it has become one of my favourite games ever.
I have since then played the Original Final fantasy 7 and I loved every minute of it.

My first game was mickey mania on the original PlayStation 😂
My first game as far as I can remember was Super Marion Bros on the NES.
My first Playstation games were: Tekken 3, Gran Turismo and Winning Eleven 4
Besides games that came with the console (Tetris for Gameboy or SMW for SNes) I think it was Mystic Quest Legend for SNes. It is so incredibly bland and easy compared to everything from today to 25 years ago, but I still love it with all my heart and I would absolutely be on board with a remake.
I think mine was lego starwars for the xbox 360 in 2006,great game!
Dude yakuza is like the hidden gems of game series. People tend to compare it to gta but it's totally different.
Love the yakuza games but the mahjong pisses me off, it’s in every game and you can’t platinum them unless you know mahjong

For me it was Detroit: Become Human, i wasn’t interested at all, but gave it a try when it was free on PS Plus and loved it. Also played Heavy Rain which was incredible and currently playing Beyond: Two Souls

Days gone, first few hours felt on the verge of giving up and not bothering with it. Got to about 5 hours and felt hooked and had to platinum it, and clear those hordes and camp sites.
It's a shame they're not bothering with DG2 because they hit on something with this game. Of course there were some tedious parts but, overall, I really enjoyed it and, like you, wanted to clear out everything. Dead Space is another one I wish they would remaster.

@@girl_on_fire_x_x Funny you should say that. I discovered this rumour shortly after posting this. As long as they don't mess around with it too much, it has the potential to be a huge success and will allow those who've never heard of it, or haven't had the chance, to experience the world of dead space. Fingers crossed it happens.
Batman: Arkham Knight was my game I was wrong about. The first time I played it I got so far as the first 30 minutes with the Batmobile and decided it should have been named Batman: Arkham Batmobile and put it down.
It wasn't until a full year later I randomly decided to give it another go, and ended up absolutely loving it.

I think it is both the best and worst batman game, it gets alot right. Batmans arsenal and skills are unshackled and deep, and even the batmobile is fun to ise and drive, but they traded all boss fights for tank battles and cutscenes. And thats the biggest sin. Otherwise an incredible game.
Persona 5. Frankly, I was never into jrpg games, so I was kinda reluctant to playing Persona 5. Turns out it has become one of my top 5 games. I fell in love instantly after the first Palace visit. But it took some time to understand it.
Gran Turismo virtually kick started my interest in Engineering, and subsequent career.
Pun unintended.
Kingdom Hearts. First time I played it just because my sister had it and the cover looked interesting. Once I got to Destiny Island I thought it was just a kid's run around and collect things game and dropped it. Tried it again a couple years later, and now I have a keyblade hanging on the wall in front of me.
Pretty much same; my brother convinced me to buy it after me thinking it was just a kids game with disney characters! Still one of my favourite games!
Weeb
I didn’t know anything about Kingdom Hearts until I visited my friend and he was in Traverse Town fighting the guard armor boss and he just couldn’t beat it, I managed to do it first try and it was instant love since.

I started when there was a sale on 0, kiwami and kiwami 2 bundle on ps4. Instantly bought all the others 🤣

Mad Max - a game that I skipped for many years until it was a ps plus game. Downloaded and tried it out one day - oh boy, how wrong I was.

For me it was Persona 4 I kept reading people saying it was the best PS2 JRPG and me being the FF nerd was like "pfft Final Fantasy's the best"... i own all the Persona's now
My friend asked me, if I had to choose between FF and Persona, what would I choose and I told her that was like asking me to pick a favorite child. 😂 I love both series too much to do that.
Next up on the classic JRPG list: Dragon Quest. Hoo boy... that series gets crazy in ways I never really expected.... love it because of that though.
Lol, I just closed Yakuza 0, after playing all afternoon. It was actually Holly who made me interested in the game in the first place, when she talked about how terrifying Mr. Shakedown was :D

I bought GoW on PS4, played for 10 minutes, if so, and decided the other games were more of priority to play at the time.
Came back to it 1 year later and realized what a gem I had all this time...

Dishonored 2's level design is just magnificent !
For me, it was Divinity Original Sin 2, At first I hated the combat and slow burning start (I'm more of a ARPG kinda Guy) but I revisited it with a friend who was well versed in those kind of games and he showed me the ropes. Now DOS2 is one of my favourite games of all time.
Just finished stonegarden on my first ever play through, love it
Final Fantasy VII. Didnt understand the material system and struggled with getting past bosses in Midgar! After dropping it in favour of FF8 and eventually coming back to it, I got to grips with it and couldnt believe how wrong I was!
The materia system is the best ability system in any RPG in my opinion.

The original ff7 was, and still is, s#!t. The remake wasn't too bad though...
geez. hearing yakuza being descriped as "GTA japane" sounds like a freakin insult. From what a friend of me has shown me, is more like a playable japanese drama series.
After playing a few Yakuza games, I'd describe it as a serious crime drama with ridiculous side content. It isn't similar at all to GTA. I'd compare GTA to games like Saints Row, Mafia and Sleeping Dogs instead.

Prey. I thought I wouldn't like it because of the original Prey 2 being canceled but it ended up in my top 10 this generation
Prey is on of the only games I played through twice, absolute masterpiece
Mad Max for me.
Never cared about the Mad Max series so I thought I'd not get anything and be annoyed at the ridged gameplay and generic open world design.
Yet the games progression, combat system, driving controls, stunning visuals and addictive gameplay loop and enjoyable trophy list had me fall in love with the game.

Nioh is a game I was wrong about. I always thought it looked cool but I wasn't a fan of Soulsborn games. I even played it at a friend's house from the beginning and was unimpressed.
But then it popped up on PS Plus so I gave it a second chance and once I got passed the first level it clicked for me. When it got into stances and ki with the combat I found a real satisfaction with Nioh.
Yakuza 0 is in my top ps4 games. It literally made me buy all of them. I am slowly going through them now. You gotta cherish these games and not rush through them. Crime drama at its finest

Played a demo and hated it; bounced off so hard, made no sense to me.
Now however... I love it so much and I honestly think its better than SoulsBorne.
For me it was Persona 5.
I don't watch anime, generally dislike turn-based combat, and I'm too old to be interested in the school setting, so I just naturally assumed I wouldn't enjoy it at all. When I finally gave it a go I loved it.
I'm with you Rosie, I was scrolling through Game Pass one day and seen Yakuza 0, I thought to my self "I'll give this a try, it looks cool for a bit". After I hit Chapter 3 and started playing as Majima, I knew I was going 100% the game. I then proceeded to complete almost every game. I grinded 0 through 6, and then Judgment back to back, one after the other, with no break. I'm now currently playing through Lost Judgment and Infinite Wealth after a year break so I don't get burnt out. Needless to say I love this series.
I tried Witcher 3, hated it. I tried it again a year later and was completely hooked
I completed it for the first time yesterday, no idea why I put it down all them years agi

I've just started playing the Yakuza games (well, I've finished 0 and Kiwami) and I must say it's probably one of the best series of games I've ever played. Looking forward to the rest of them

My brother and I played the original together back in 96, and we still quote it to each other quite often. It always gets a smile and a laugh.
Yeah, the entire series is a tribute to tongue in cheek B movie horror, like Evil Dead II. Alfred and Salazar are two of the most entertaining characters in the series, they are so over the top.
Final Fantasy 7
Didn't play the original (I was way too young to be playing games when it was released) so I didn't quite understand the hype around it in the months leading up to the Remake's release last year. Recently I purchased it for my PS5 on my sister's request and after she completed the game, I decided to try it myself. Surprisingly, I am enjoying it and can't wait for the next part!

I'm playing judgement atm but definitely going to give Yakuza a go afterwards!
Mine was Red Dead Redemption, I hated it when it first came out as I was young and I couldn’t get past the cattle rustling missions.
About a year later I played it again, I now have the platinum and it is how my favourite game ever
How did you manage to get the online trophies for that? When I went to get them the servers were absolutely completely dead and that was only a year or so after it was released!

I would say the same about yakuza. I would have never played it but a girl I had a crush on bought yakuza 6. So i figured i should check it out.
I did the EXACT SAME THING NATH with the Witcher 3 now it's my favorite game of all time.
Horizon Zero Dawn. I didnt really learn how to fight the robots and thought of it as a mediocre RPG. Gave it another go and now it's my favourite game of the PS4 generation
You what? Couldn't be bothered to figure out how to fight robots? It's like not knowing how to drive in a driving game...

I thought Unravel was gonna be a fun little romp of a game. I was wrong. Not only was it terrifying at some parts, but the end had me crying during the credits thinking about my life. When it was all done, I was just flabbergasted wondering what happened.
I love Unravel, it is definitely an emotional rollercoaster and I would recommend it to anyone that hasn't tried it yet; Yarny is adorable! ❤️
Sadly, I'm not such a fan of the sequel though, mainly because it's meant to be played in co-op (difficult if you're friendless... 😞) and I cannot speedrun the levels to save my life (only 0.1% of players have completed Unravel Two 100% and I can see why!)
I would rather take my time with the game, but speedrunners and people with friends will likely enjoy it.
For me; Final Fantasy XII, and the Uncharted Series
Final Fantasy XII
I judged it too harshly and quickly on the battle system as I'd just come from FFX which is true turn base. I eventually went back to give it another try and realised the battle system isn't that different from the old FFVII and FFVIII. You and the enemy can't do an action until your bar is full. You can still access the command menu, and order your party to use certain things. Now that FFVII Remake is out, the fighting in FFXII seems like an early version of the system the Remake uses.
Uncharted
It come with my Playstation 4, never even heard of the game, knew nothing about it. The box art looked like just some shooter which I was not interested in at all. So I completely dismissed it. Think it was a year later I thought I would just try it because the collection was part of my PS4 bundle. Turned out to love the games. The characters were fun, the combat broken up with simple puzzles, the set pieces. Happy I gave the game a chance.
Gosh, mine was Days Gone, I got it as a last treat after I lost my job due to the pandemic so I was pretty much stuck with it, and I tried after Ghost Of Tsushima, so my expectations were on an all-time-high, and I hated it in every possible way, bike felt floaty, I didn't like either Deacon or Boozer, I hated the almost null fuel autonomy the bike had, just couldn't, so it fell into my backlog. My friends keep telling me to keep going, to keep going, and I was like "Nah, no way" until a friend who didn't like Horizon Zero Dawn but loooves Days Gone and I made a deal, she'd play HZD and I would give Days Gone another chance, so she started HZD and loved it, and so did I with DG, and MY GOD I LOVED IT SO MUCH, I got so invested, I cried, I laughed, I cared about the characters, Deek was way cooler than I thought, I just took out hordes for fun and I ended up getting the platinum in like 6 days, I love Days Gone so much and I owe Sony Bend Studio the biggest apology.
Days gone is a masterpiece, totally deserves a sequel, especially after watching that O'Brian's warning.

I was wrong about Borderlands. I was not expecting much when I traded a game for it. I figured I would get bored with a few minutes and now the Borderlands series us my favorite game series.
Borderlands 2 is my favorite game and I played it on a whim (PlayStation Plus) and now I've spent hundreds of hours on ittt 😍
Resident evil 4.I literally just beat it an hour ago.Thought it was just another zombie game but it’s now in my top 5 of all time.
Best RE after RE 1 ps1 imo, sad to know there will be an oculus version.
I almost bought Clayfighter 63 1/3 over Final Fantasy VII because I thought Clayfighter was going to be amazing and I didn't like "top-down" camera games. Fortunately Clayfighter wasn't available, and I walked away with my favorite game of all time. It's still embarrassing to think about what could have been.
For me it was lords of the fallen. At first I thought it was a demon's souls knockoff, but I ended up enjoying it.
Mine was Ghost of Tsushima. I made the mistake of going straight into it from finishing RDR2 and being totally underwhelmed by it. My first annoyance was the Japanese audio not being lipsynched, then it was repetitive combat and a game world that seemed totally devoid of life and though having a nice colour pallet, a bit bland. I called it a poor man's Assassin's Creed and uninstalled it.... A year later, my son started playing it and something about it caught my interest. I picked it up again and it was like playing a totally different game. Nothing had changed, only my perception. I think I went into it expecting something like RDR2 with swords and it's just not that. I love the game now and often pester my friend with beautiful screenshots trying to get him to buy it too.

Mine was oblivion. Never heard of fallout or Bethesda so when I picked up the box and looked at the back I thought I’d give it a try but wasn’t expecting much. Thank god I did give it a chance otherwise I’d never of played any of the other excellent Bethesda games.
I'm in the same boat as Rob. I've been a loyal Playstation gamer for a long time and I never gave the Arkham games a chance. This past weekend I picked up Return to Arkham from the summer sale and I'm mind blown. I missed out badly on these games when they came out
I was COMPLETELY wrong about an entire PLATFORM. PSVR! My GOODNESS; I was wrong. One thing I’ve always done is judge VR by what I was seeing on the TV screen itself. A VERY BAD way to judge VR. You HAVE to try it before you knock it; right? I played Resident Evil 7(Village) in VR and was COMPLETELY blown away by the experience in VR. Not so, while watching it on a TV. Please, please, please believe me when I say; I WAS WRONG! Try a good VR game like the one I mentioned and you WILL NOT be disappointed. NOW, VR is probably my FAVORITE way to play games that offer VR; hands down.
I played god of war when it was on ps now and after cutting down the tree and slowly sailing in the boat I got bored and deleted the game until I bought it about a year later and platinumed it

Dave loves puzzles and will play Resident Evil? I want to see him do the whole mannequin puzzle in RE Village 😁

Note: I said "in an RE game"... not in general. It has lots of the weird as hell RE puzzle logic.
Fallout. My little brother went on and on about it. At the time my only experience was skyrim, then I gave in tried fallout 3 it was great I immersed myself in the fallout world
Control.
Was so unsure about the game for the first half hour then left it for about 2 months.
Came back eventually and everything clicked and I loved it.
Got the platinum a couple weeks later.
Soulsborne games - always avoided them because I didn’t see the appeal of punishing games but I got Demon’s Souls on PS5 and safe to say I’m a firm fan now!

Yakuza games are unreal. There's no a single game out there that feels like it. Kiwami 2 was the game I was wrong about...I was also wrong about starting with Kiwami 2, too 😅

Just got into the Yakuza games. Bought Zero while on sale, am loving it so went ahead and bought up to 6 while on sale and got Like a Dragon for my birthday.
I started the Yakuza series with 4 but eventually dropped it when I bought a PS4. When Yakuza 6 came out, I thought I should give the series another chance. Best decision ever!
Finished 6, Zero, Kiwami1/2, Like a Dragon and now playing 3 remastered. I think I'm on chapter 10. After that, I need to finish Y4 and Y5 and off to Judgement.
tbh what Nath had to say about Dishonored really is Dishonored at it's best. i'm super glad it clicked for him like that!
A game I was wrong about was Alien Isolation at first I was unsure about it because I wasn't sure if I would enjoy it but I decided to give it a chance and I'm really glad I did it's a classic survival horror game that made single handedly made the xenomorph terrifying again.
Yakuza 5 is also the biggest of the Kiryu games. Each character has so much to do, I ended up putting over 90 hours in, when the others had been 20-40.
Missed chance at 8:12: He should have been like: "hahahahaha...... no"
A game I was happy to be wrong about is the original Devil May Cry. And look at me now, madly in love with all of it. Even discount Dante, it was so creatively done and a really fun gameplay experience

I had overlooked Yakuza until PS+ gave Yakuza 4 away for free, but I didn't have enough space on my harddrive, so I could never download it,, like "Eh, I remember 1 was only okay." Then when a year or two later they dropped Yakuza 5 on PS+...happened to be RIGHT when I upgraded my PS4 hard drive, and slapped my old PS4 hard drive in my PS3 and decided to finally give a play. After literally 30 minutes tops, I stopped playing, went on ebay, and immediately ordered 1 and 2 (PS2) and 3, and haven't looked back as a Yakuza super fan.
My only regret is that when Yakuza Kiwami 2 was announced, I sold my 1 and 2 for PS2, thinking it'd be just as amazing as the first Kiwami, but then 6 introduced the dragon engine, which stripped so much out, and Kiwami 2 didn't build enough back and I just wish I still had that original 2. I'd take the worse tech for the better gameplay.
Final fantasy 14! I was under the impression that I was never going to be able to get into it, because I was already invested in that *one* MMO already. However, I started playing back in May and I’m in LOVE with the game. The combat is very satisfying, the lore is amazingly written, and the dev team is absolutely amazing! I wish I started sooner, because it is brilliant!

COD Infinite Warfare. Yeah, it wasn't the COD we wanted back in 2016 but it was actually good. The maps took some time to get used to but after a while I kinda wish they did more with the science fiction element.
Mine is not so much a mistake as a video games hiatus. My brother let me play LA Noire on his pc not that long after it was initially released, and I thought it seemed pretty good but had taken a break from playing video games for several years. Got the remastered version for the PS4 and thoroughly enjoyed it, one of the first games if not thee first game I think I platinumed.
Just got GamePass and tried out Yakuza 0 and 7. Ending up buying 7 outright on Ps5. Loving this series so far.

Mine was farcry 5 - I had it as an ‘inbetweener game’ for when I finished The Witcher and was waiting for the next title I had on preorder, so I picked it up thinking I’d just speed run it but ended up absolutely relishing every second of that game - and I’ve played it twice again since! Such a good game 👌
I love that Dave's entry is RE2 Remake cause I literally just got back into this game a few weeks ago and had the same experience! I hadn't finished the first playthrough and was really not into it, but decided a year later that I at least wanted to finish it, and now within the last few weeks I've played through 5 times. I'm going for the plat!
