The receiver is paired with your specific keyboard and mouse. So if it isn't working, it's best to get a new mouse and keyboard. It could be that the receiver you have isn't in stock anymore. Just to make sure, did you try replacing the batteries in the mouse and keyboard before plugging in the receiver?
Im assuming if it were a virus, it would be a constant problem. My mouse + keyboard work fine 80% of the time, and then at random they both will start acting glitchy at the same time. Also, If i replace them both with wired ones, will the problem likely go away?
Have you noticed if it happens with a specific program that you are using when you notice it? Then next time it happens, right-click the bottom bar of your desktop (where there are no icons) and select "Start Task Manager". Look at the programs and processes that are open and running when the lag happens. On the processes screen see if there some programs using A LOT of resources at the time it lags.
Did you by chance make any changes to your PC before this happened, such as running a registry or PC cleanup utility? Have you tried plugging your mouse and keyboard into a different port? Your problem probably is software related, but it's hard to say a driver would fix it, particularly if you can't get into Windows to run the driver.
Have you changed the batteries? Weak battery power will cause a lot of sync issues. Once you have new batteries in the mouse, reconnect the dongle to the PC (use a different USB port if possible), then turn on the mouse, push the sync button on the dongle (I think that model has one) and then push the sync button on the mouse.
Are you saying that your X key keeps adding Xs even when you don't press it? If so, it could be you have a stuck key or that something was spilled on the keys. I'm not sure what keyboard you have, but some keyboards you can pop the keys off and check under it for anything that may be causing a problem. Don't pop them off though if you don't know you can put them back on.
Can you explain more about the problems with dragging stuff? Is it not dragging at all? Does it go part way then stop? The more details you can provide the more it helps me think of what it could be.
When a mouse starts to have problems, it's generally the batteries, the surface it's on, or the hardware. The optical "laser" on the bottom controls how the computer views what the mouse is doing. So if the laser is having trouble or if the mouse buttons are failing, it can cause the mouse to not work correctly, like you are running into. If I suspect it's hardware, I try to use another mouse just to rule it out. If the problem persists with another mouse, it could be driver or PC related.
If possible, try connecting the mouse to another PC to see if it works for a different PC (this will help rule out issues with your PC). If it still doesn't work, and you know for sure the batteries are good, it's possible the mouse hardware has failed and needs to be replaced.
This sounds like either the mouse laser is going bad or it can't track with the surface you have the mouse on. Are you using a mouse pad, or working on a non-shiny surface?
Well, if the mouse and keyboard didn't work in another computer and you are sure you have good batteries in them, that could mean they are no longer working. If you plug another device into your USB ports, like a camera or printer or external hard drive, do the ports work?
Did you try changing the batteries? How about connecting the USB receiver to a different USB port? Try using it on another computer if possible, just to see if it works. If it doesn't work on another computer either, it could be the mouse hardware has failed.
This video helped me to fix my keyboard which otherwise i was feeling has broken. It saved me money to buy the new one. Thanks for the good demonstration
Have you tried plugging it into a different USB port or even tried it on another PC? Also, have you checked to see if the mouse or USB device is listed in Device Manager after you hear it recognize the USB receiver when plugging it in? Does the mouse have a sync button? I know you said the receiver didn't have a sync button, but I wonder if there is one on the mouse.
Are you saying the mouse laser (red light on the bottom) isn't working? Have you tried putting in brand new batteries and switching the mouse power on and off to make sure it isn't stuck?
Try taking out the batteries again and then put them back in. Then restart the computer and if it still doesn't connect try using the connect button again. Also, make sure your mouse is close to the receiver and there is nothing between it that could block the signal. I'm not familiar with MSI computers and mice so I don't know if there is a driver for this, but you might ask MSI or visit their support site to see if they have software for the mouse.
Do you have other programs running that could be draining resources? When this happens, push CTRL + ALT + DEL and then select Task Manager. Check the Processes tab to see if there any processes using a very high amount of resources. If you find one, try stopping it.
Are you sure you have new batteries in the mouse? Also, have you noticed if the clicking has problems in some software more than others? If so, it could be an issue with the program you are using. You may also want to try another mouse to see if the problem still exists. If a new mouse works properly, it could be your other mouse is beginning to fail. Perhaps the button is worn out.
Did you try the steps in the video? If the lag is happening to both the mouse and keyboard, it could be you have them too far away from the PC or that something is blocking or interfering with the signal. Another possibility could be that your PC has some kind of process running that is taking the resources or causing trouble for your PC.
Usually when this happens it's because the wireless signal from the mouse is too weak or dropping. It could also be that mouse is failing. Have you tried putting in new batteries? Moving your mouse closer to the PC or taking the mouse off of a shiny surface. Sometimes the surface that the mouse is on can also cause the signal to drop.
Have you changed the batteries in the keyboard? Also, try moving the receiver to a different USB port. To see if the keyboard isn't working at all, try connecting it to another PC.
Hmmm...that does sound like either a driver conflict or a registry conflict. Have you tried completely removing the driver and application that cause the keyboard to stop working, and then reinstall the keyboard driver?
Hmmm....if you know the batteries are good (I would use brand new batteries for testing), but the mouse still won't connect to any computer, it could be that the mouse is failing, One thing I would try is to move the USB receiver to a different port, restart the PC, and then try the mouse and keyboard again to see if there are any changes to which device works.
Did it used to work? Did anything happen before it stopped working? It's possible this is a hardware failure, but you could try disconnecting the mouse, restart the PC, and then reconnect it to see if that fixes it. Or you could go into Control Panel, then view by "Large icons" rather than category, and then select "Mouse". There may be a setting in here that can take care of the issue.
If the Mouse and Keyboard are USB 3.0 and your PC only supports USB 2.0, you can't do much to make this work. One thing I would try is to update the PC's chipset driver or see if there are any updates for USB drivers for your PC. If this does not work, the mouse and keyboard may just be incompatible. This is a common issue with new USB 3.0 devices on older systems that came before USB 3.0 was available. It's a hardware issue rather than software.
Did the mouse and keyboard come with a driver? Does the wireless receiver and the mouse and keyboard have "connect" buttons to sync them up with the PC?
I'm not sure how old your mouse is or what it's warranty is, but if it's in warranty, you may be able to call the manufacturer and get a replacement. If it's not in warranty, you can buy a new one.
Ok. It sounds like you may be having USB port issues or possibly your new mouse and keyboard are for USB 3.0 and your PC only support 2.0? Do other USB devices work on your PC when you plug them in? If other devices work, but the mouse and keyboard don't, I would suspect they are not compatible with the USB port or they need a specialty driver installed before connecting the device to the PC.
Is there a "sync" button on the USB receiver? Does the keyboard work? Can you try plugging it into another computer and see if it recognizes the mouse?
@Pedroxpvista Well, you can try opening it again to see if there are any pieces clearly out of place or offset. Otherwise, you may end up having to get a new keyboard. Did you spill fluid in it? If so, it's also possible that some liquid is still keeping the keys from properly sending signals.
Very helpful, thanks! I guess you can tell if the batteries are running down if the mouse cursor is jumping some of the time before it doesn't move at all anymore.
To me this sounds like a registry issue. Essentially, your PC isn't recognizing the device as the same device you originally installed. It could be that when you first set it up there was an issue, or it could be that some software (like a registry cleaning utility) did something to the registry key associated with your device. What this means is you would need to use System Restore to roll your PC back to a time when the mouse worked correctly, before the registry got messed up.
Are you saying that the USB mouse and keyboard don't work, or are you talking about every thing that you plug into the USB ports? Also, have you tried the USB ports on the front and back of the PC? It's hard to say what could be wrong unless I know more details of what is happening.
That very well could be. Objects can interfere with wireless signals. If moving the mouse/keyboard makes the lag better or worse, it's likely interference with the signal. If it makes no difference when you move them and the issues is random, it's possible there is a process running that is competing with the keyboard mouse wifi resources. If this issue persists all the time no matter what you do, it could be a hardware or driver issue. In this case, I would look to reinstall the latest driver.
Check your mouse settings. You can change how sensitive the clicks are. I'm not sure what version of Windows you have, but if you click start, then search for "mouse settings", you should find the controls for this.
Have you tried using different USB ports? If the mouse (or any other device) doesn't work in any USB port, then it's possible something happened to it's entry in the Registry, or that the PC Chipset driver needs to be updated.
This video was very helpful. Thanks a lot. The only difference is that I had green lights and white buttons. While waiting for the green light to turn blue ( i don't know why I waited) frustrated me until when I realized your blue is my green light
My keyboard and mouse were working perfectly fine yesterday, and now they both are lagging at what seems to be the same time. Im assuming low batteries wouldnt be a problem unless its coincidentally low on both the keyboard and mouse. I will try the steps provided in this video, but I am just curious, will a virus ever effect a wireless mouse and keyboard? Everything else is working fine on my computer, nothing is slow or lagging, other than the keyboard + mouse.
If you google that error message, there are some Microsoft forums links that are at the top of the results. The first one has an answer that could fix this error. As far as the mouse/keyboard problem, what exactly isn't working?
Sorry to hear about your issues with the wireless keyboard and mouse. Not all wireless devices are created the same. Many gamers don't even use wireless because wired uses fewer system resources, avoids lags, and is not as prone to interference with the connection. There are some keyboards and mice though made specifically for gaming. Try searching Google or BING for them. It also can depend on the game. Some games work better than others with wireless devices.
Are you sure the batteries are good? You may want to also try connecting it to another computer and see if the same problem remains. Maybe there is some other conflict going on.
Just want to say that was an excellent presentation. Now, Ican't get into the registry because my computer is password protected and I can't type it in. Any suggestions for that?
+Marie Vazquez What is the model and of the computer and the operating system in use on it? These two documents can help with finding that. ( ow.ly/DKshH ) ( ow.ly/DoX7C )
I completely understand. Wifi can be frustrating at times. If your desk is very shiny/reflective, that can cause problems for a mouse. Using a mousepad can help with that.
If the scrolling wheel hardware is broken, it is probably cheaper/easier to get a new one. You'd have to take it apart and have another similar mouse to take the parts from anyway.
Does neither the mouse or keyboard work? When you plug in the wireless receiver to the USB port, does the PC show that it recognizes it (makes a noise when you plug it in, and/or shows by the time that a new devices was connected)? If the PC doesn't recognize when you plug in the receiver, that tells you there is an issue with the PC recognizing the device. I'm not sure about the System Restore issue mention.
Are you sure the receiver has a light? Some don't have a light. Does the PC try to plug and play it as a device when you first plug it in? After plugging it in, have you looked in Device Manager to see if it is listed or if there is an unknown device listed? Have you tried plugging it into another PC? If the device doesn't show up in your PC, and doesn't show up on another PC, it's possible the device is bad.
There is no connect button on my receiver, when i hold the connect buttons nothing happens, both wont connect but have new batteries. Is there an installation driver i need?
Try putting the receiver in a different USB port and then pushing the sync button (if there is one) on the mouse. If no sync button try turning it off, replacing batteries, and then turn it back on. See if it syncs.
@Pedroxpvista Ok. I think the problem then is that your key pad is "off" so that the keys aren't pressing the correct spots. This can happen pretty easily, which is why I rarely open a keyboard. Your BIOS sees the keyboard because the transmitter from the keyboard to the PC is functioning. All your keys are offset though so it seems like the keyboard doesn't work.
Did you by chance make any changes to your registry? Have you tried other USB devices in the ports to make sure it's not an issue with the USB ports? If it's the ports, you may be able to fix it by updating the chipset driver. If it's the registry, you may be able to fix it by running a system restore to roll your PC setting back to what they were before this happened.
If the device is recognized when you push the USB hard into the PC, it's likely there is a connection issue with the USB port or the device receiver. Have you tried the mouse on another PC to see if the problem is the same?
Is there a driver for the keyboard? Have you tried restarting the PC to see if it recognizes the keyboard? If you go into Device Manager is the keyboard listed?
Yes the USB port is broken.. Because when i put the camera plug in in the USB it will not recognize the plugin.. ALL the USB ports are like that, i dont know what is going on! And i will try it out now :) Great vid btw :)
Hmm...that is odd. Are you positive the batteries are good? Weak batteries can cause issues like this. You may also want to see if there is an updated driver for your mouse.
If the mouse light on the bottom isn't working and you know you have new batteries in it, it's possible the mouse has died. In this case, you'd need to get a new one. If the mouse had something spilled on it, it's possible it could eventually dry out and start working again, but it's probably best just to get a new one.
yea i did both. i also booted with the jumper on the other pin and also had the cmos battery out for a little while and it didnt work. i think i have problems with bios too because i can use the computer just normally
Shut your PC all the way down. Unplug the power cable (and if you have a laptop remove the battery). Press and hold the power button for 10 seconds. Then (reattach the battery on a laptop) plug it back in, and restart the PC. If that doesn't work, try plugging it into another USB port. If you have a desktop and have it plugged into the back, try plugging it into a front port. Also, see if other USB devices work from the ports to make sure it's not a USB port issue.
hi there! i got an hp touchsmart 310pc with a wireless keyboard model kg 0851...all was goin fine except that i noticed lately that the wireless keyboard's batteries got drained qiuckly which is not doing before so now i have to change fress sets of batts(with in a day or two) so just bought rechargeable ones coz i'm getting a bit frustrated..
Hi, the laptop works fine. I removed the mouse receiver when I went traveling with my pc and when I returned and put it in again, the mouse stopped working. When I put the receiver in the USB slot, it does make a noise that it is recognized but thats it. Is there a way to manually try and connect things like through hardware devices or something?
Thanks for watching and providing feedback! Glad you got it working.
The receiver is paired with your specific keyboard and mouse. So if it isn't working, it's best to get a new mouse and keyboard. It could be that the receiver you have isn't in stock anymore. Did the keyboard and mouse come with any software to make it work properly? If so, you may just need to install it.

No worries. The reason I asked is that sometimes an updated BIOS that didn't come from the PC manufacturer can really mess up the BIOS and PC.

Does neither the mouse or keyboard work? Try using the connect button on the mouse, just like you would when first setting up the PC.
I'm not entirely sure what you are describing. Do the keys work when you type on them?
You might want to check your Mouse settings in the control panel. Maybe the right button has been disabled for some reason.
@baileybushey have you tried putting in new batteries, and/or switching the USB port that the receiver is plugged into?
Did you watch the full video? What didn't work? I need more details to help.
Can you try plugging them into a different USB port? Also, can you go into Device Manager and do a driver rollback on them?
Shut your PC all the way down. Unplug the power cable (and if you have a laptop remove the battery). Press and hold the power button for 10 seconds. Then (reattach the battery on a laptop) plug it back in, and restart the PC. If that doesn't work, try plugging it into another USB port. If you have a desktop and have it plugged into the back, try plugging it into a front port. Also, see if other USB devices work from the ports to make sure it's not a USB port issue.
I'm not sure what you mean by "the second USB". Can you give more details of the problem?
Outstanding job explaining synchronization. I was able to fix my wireless keyboard issue in no time. Thanks!
Ron Carr Glad you liked it!
Have you tried moving the receiver to a different USB port?
It is possible the mouse hardware has failed and you may need to replace it.
I'm not sure what you mean. Can you give me more details?
hi there! i got an hp touchsmart 310pc with a wireless keyboard model kg 0851...all was goin fine except that i noticed lately that the wireless keyboard's batteries got drained qiuckly which is not doing before so now i have to change fress sets of batts(with in a day or two) so just bought rechargeable ones coz i'm getting a bit frustrated..
I'm not sure what you mean. Have you watched the video?
