jerry henderson c5's are plentiful and cheap nowadays, c5 z is a serious used bargain. Even ls2 c6's can be had for under 20k. I had a 99 z28 and currently have a heads cam c6 vette. The LS family of engines are soo mod friendly
Well a V12 has a very distinctive sound. The exhaust factors in, but it just shapes the sound. The engine is still the base. Calling this shit because it doesn't sound like an Italian supercar is a bad comparison. This is a wonderful example of what a muscle car can sound like.
Oh man, I am so happy to finally see a 4th Gen Camaro on one of these car review channels. I feel they're underrated, Camaros could go around corners before the ZL1 was introduced....you just had to massage them a little. Absolutely outstanding machine.

matt i am enjoying the fact that you talk at the end for about 45 seconds after your done driving the cars seems to wrap up the video better then 3 words and black screen
I really love my f body. It's the lt1 z28, it's nothing crazy bolt ons only. It rattles, dash is cracked, t tops leak, ac doesn't work. But the thing is, I only paid 2 grand for it. Say what you want about 90s - early 2000s muscle (mustangs included) but they really are great bang for the buck. A lot of smiles per gallon
paid $2800 for mine and almost NOTHING worked on it. No a/c, power windows didn't work, no radio.. but it was fun and worth the money. Ended up blowing a head gasket though so that's all over
+845ToastT I had a 94 (4th gen) LT1 Camaro and once I took care of the dash rattles with some shimming the car was pretty great. It had great power for the time (even in the 2000's) and handled better than most people expected.
+Adam S (Dolby109) i still have and drive a 96 Z28 LT1. the LT1 is a better engine then its reputation. my car has 219K on it and still rips pretty good for being nearly stock. im broke but i like f bodies
Bought one of these ( 98 SS) from a dealer in 99 with 6000 miles for 12,000.00. Absolute BEST value of any car I ever purchased. If you can get past the interior ( I can) they are/were awesome cars. For the money I cant think of a better car. They feel like a 60s muscle car that will actually stop and go around turns. The MPGs are awesome for the power. As Mat stated the Aero is great and I think they look great in Red with the flat silver ZR-1 type wheels. Mine had the single exhaust outlet and people would snicker thinking that I cloned a V-6. It would airborne the rear hitting a bump at speed in a turn (live axle) which is bad but thrilling in its own way. Put over 100K on the car and NOTHING ever broke despite being BEAT ON MERCIOUSLY. Stereo was decent as well , loud anyway.
I do! With very rare exception these are all great passionate car enthusiasts who are generous with their time and their cars and their gas money. I'm very appreciative of every single person who provides a car for a video.
It's all about context. These cars were built like shit and cost $30k new. Now, 15 years later, they are exactly the same level of shit but only cost like $10k can be made really fast in the aftermarket, with robust drivetrains. At $10k you don't care if the interior sucks, only that the drivetrain will hold together when you beat on it. That's how a lot of cars which were hated on when new become more appreciated 15 years down the road.
+TheSmokingTire Build quality wasn't that great but bang for the buck in power and performance was unrivaled. You didn't have to get the SS. You could get a lightly-optioned Z28 for $24k in 2002.
Great looking stance with the Eibach springs and 305 square tire setup. Really Good time at AutoClub Speedway. For those unfamiliar with the "Roval" track at Auto club. For an average weekend "run what ya brung" race day the really fast guys in street cars run 1:55-2:00 lap times. Anything close to 2:00-2:05 is fast and the average guys run 2:10-2:15 lap times. Great sounding car and well setup!
+qikqbn77 Sounds about right. Though a proper set-up miata with a stock engine, sticky tires and a great driver goes sub 2:00. It`s a horsepower track and everything above 400hp runs sub 2:00 with ease...
+Caliactive365 Agreed. LS1 and OG 5.0 for me. As much as it kicks ass...I don't care for the sound of the new LT Chevy motors. Like you said though, preference.
Who ever records your sound, is a pro. This is the standard that should be met. No annoying porn' rock music in the background. No cheesy loud obnoxious host. Good video
Nice video, I own a 2000 Pontiac Trans Am and I have to say that the F Body's are one of the most best high performance cars in terms of handling and power especially back then and are definitely underrated. Sad to see that Pontiac had to retire so the Camaro is all alone without its twin.
+Raindrop Collector lets be clear: I did not say "will out handle a mustang all day." You said that. Some mustangs will handle better, and some camaro's will handle better. I never made any comparison between the two.
***** Yea I have always been around both too and until 2011 mustangs just couldnt keep up. Camaros have the better engine, suspension design (we all know that without MM or Griggs setups mustangs are hopeless), and in my opinion ergonomics. Mustangs look better to me though.
They just introduced your Drive show on one of our local BBC Entertainment channels. I am recording the entire season :-). Just saw the episode where you guys go to Japan and drive local legends ...with you behind the wheel of the R34, Chris Harris the STi and Spinelli the MX5. Dude you do great on television in high quality produced content. If it was not for Spinelli, I would say the Drive TV show is even better than Top Gear! Oh and the SS sounds great!

Damn! This video brings back so many memories of when I bought my brand new 98 Camaro Z28. Most people didn't know a lot about these cars at that time. These things were *SO* underrated based on factory rated horsepower/torque numbers (Chevy rated these at 350 crank HP) whereas mine put down 332 RWHP completely BONE STOCK. I used to run against STI's, EVO's, Turbo Civics, Mustang GT's, Mustange Boss 302's, etc. and I can't tell you how many times I'd get asked "Is that thing supercharged?" or "You runnin juice?" 4th gen F-Body's were *BY FAR* the best bang for the buck you could've purchased in 1998-2002. The LS1 was a game change at that time. Hell, with just some basic mods (Whisper Lid/Headers/Full Exhaust/Ported TB) my best 1/4 mile run was a 12.11 @ 114mph on DR's... And that was using the 6-speed manual btw! =)

I've never been to the US, let alone live there. But I reckon, from my experience talking to people who live there and also watching car reviews like this, that one of the best things about living in Uncle Sam's grounds is the possibility of buying (and modifying) cars like this one on a relatively unexpensive budget. A rear-wheel-drive-V8 with a 6-speed manual: This is the real American Dream. 🔥🔥🔥
Can't wait to get home and watch this. I read a while back in the comments saying you did one and have been waiting forever. My hugger orange 99 ss is waiting to hear what you think I the car.
I actually love the style of the SS. Adding spoilers and hood scoops can make a car look tacky. The SS Ram air scoop is relatively understated and intergrates very well . The muscle lines that flow into the headlamps look good in IMO. I do see the catfish look people talk about but I always admired my car when I would walk up on it head on. Same with rear spoilers. They often look clownish and dont intergrate, on this car they really help the overall look. The car as Matt stated is VERY aerodynamic so there is form and function going on here with the overall shape. I am not anti Pontiac.. had a firehawk f bod as well, but I always thought for a GM the SS was in relative terms kind of classy and adult looking compared to the over the top poncho styling. I am also wierd in that I kindnof liked the Camaro interior. It certainty isnt like a german car and the materials were what they were but I actually appreciate simple layouts with easy to use HVAC etc. The seats were not great in regards to bolstering for spirited driving I will concede that. But when you take all the positive aspects of these cars and the pricing they were one of the best cars ever made, I boubht mine used in 99, it was a 98 from a dealer with 12k on the odometer and paid 12,000.00 . I have never made a better purchase in my life in regards to value for any kind of vehicle. I like all kinds of different cars and im not a brand loyalist but I think you can make an objective argument that these were some of the best cars GM ever produced if the metric is bang, fun and value for the buck. I had regular access to a c 5 at the time and for whatever reason I actually enjoyed the driving the Camaro more. Very predicticle car and even if not the ultimate handling car, very fun to drive with the throttle and I think handled better then what most people would expect from a cheap american muscle car with a crappy interior, large panel gaps etc. 30 MPGs on the hwy was a nice benefit on road trips as well. You can purchase a really nice one of these for what a few repairs in a used Mercedes might cost.
Some hard criticism on here, and not even from Ford guys like you would normally see...regardless of any erroneous numbers, I think this was a great review of a nicely-built, street friendly f-body. I'm a Pontiac fan, but I can appreciate a nice clean Camaro. Glad Matt saw fit to review it, and Mitch saw fit to bring it back for a second look!
I agree that the 4th Gen is an excellent platform to make wicked power. Yes, the interior bits are cheap GM 1990's throwback plastic. But the car is a magnificent base for power on a budget.
500 flywheel. hes more like around 420 to 440 wheel. doesnt seem like he has an aggressive setup with just ls6 heads. finally glad to see Matt get in a ls1 fbody
+loveburningaway aren't the best, but when ported they're good enough. Most of the guys at my friend's GM tuning shop just port the heads since it's a good HP/$ value
I have a stock 2000 Z28 Targa ... it purrs (pretty quiet, actually) and it runs like a Swiss watch with only 100 000km (60 000miles). These cars are BULLETPROOF for as long as you do all the regular maintenance (clean oil, etc...), and they're still quick and fast enough to give you a cold sweat if you get too "enthusiastic".
a little loud for my old man ears but it does sound good though I couldn't handle it as a daily. I'm old enough to remember that these cars were the thing when they first came out. I mean everybody had one
I love the 4th gen F-Body Camaro. I'm also one that likes to be different so I'm building a 97 Camaro with the LT1 and have 480rwhp on motor and about 620rwhp on spray. There is ton's of after market support for these car's and can be built for drag or autocross.
they're getting old so probably almost free now. every once in a while I see one and they do sound good. I saw one at a road course once all caged, big front (small rear) hoosiers. that guy flew in it.
+Double_Alpha_XDm haha who really cares tho. My car rattles a bit too and the interior is nothing special but that's not what a performance car is all about anyways. If anything I prefer the simplicity muscle/sports cars had up until about 10 years ago. Like I don't need back up cameras and Bluetooth or a touch screen nav in my car lol
I love these cars. even the lt1's. always had them and so did my buddies so nostalgia definitely plays a huge part but bang for your buck, these are tough to beat.
I'm so glad you review "normal" cars that the average guy can build and buy. Some channels are nothing but Mclarens and Ferraris
Dude for real. I love seeing those cars but I want to see stuff I can actually buy
@braxtonwendt8937 I never was interested in super cars any of them I like attainable stuff that's modified the every day man's type car
My dream car. You either love or hate 4th Gen F Bodys and I love them to death.
just got one and I'm in love with it, look around 500-1000 mile radius, it's worth it..

Love the profile of these things, so much want
You can purchase a really nice one of these for what a few repairs in a used Mercedes might cost.
this SS sounds amazing and very intimidating 👍👍👍👍👍great looking car too
I don't normally like the F-Body, but with that sound I can make an exception!
it sounds like a fucking demon. holy shit dude...

All automobile bias side, no one can deny that lovely sound!
sweet car
lol DAT username though dude wow amazing my dude lol.
Dwayne Lewis your whole profile pic/name is great hahaha
Some hard criticism on here, and not even from Ford guys like you would normally see...regardless of any erroneous numbers, I think this was a great review of a nicely-built, street friendly f-body. I'm a Pontiac fan, but I can appreciate a nice clean Camaro. Glad Matt saw fit to review it, and Mitch saw fit to bring it back for a second look!
You know Farah's a straight shooter when he calls himself out on f-body criticism 3:11 Gotta love it.
Love the series, keep it up Matt! Really hoping to see an 03-04 Cobra sometime on here.
3:58 RIP headphone users

For real
You are by far one of my favorite youtubers, keep up the fantastic work!
Can we get a ws6 one take
I have one, and I want to see a WS6 ripping.
I agree that the 4th Gen is an excellent platform to make wicked power. Yes, the interior bits are cheap GM 1990's throwback plastic. But the car is a magnificent base for power on a budget.
Wow. This guy looks 100% like a Camaro owner. :'D
+No PROTEIN SHAAAAAAAKES BROOO
+Violetta If only he had more spikey hair and blasting linkin park.
I was getting pretty excited about the sound. WOW!
Jesus christ that sounds good .. missing my 94 z28 bad
Nice car, makes me miss my 2000 SS... Night blue Metallic with black leather
Gotta love the Fish cars.
Nothing sounds better than a v8 even though they make fast 4's nowadays. It's the torque that makes it fun! Love these camaros
500 flywheel. hes more like around 420 to 440 wheel. doesnt seem like he has an aggressive setup with just ls6 heads. finally glad to see Matt get in a ls1 fbody
+loveburningaway He could have gotten a good cam and just ported his heads and would have had more.
+Unbearable Pain 241 heads aren't the best for flow
+loveburningaway aren't the best, but when ported they're good enough. Most of the guys at my friend's GM tuning shop just port the heads since it's a good HP/$ value
most ppl i know either port 243s or get aftermarket heads

Damn you guys have been pumping out a lot of one takes!!! Love it!!!
Damn that is quite a racket!!!
Sounds vicious.
Nice sounding and handling camaro. Your videos are truly entertaining.
Sounds pretty gnarly.
Holy shieet that take off.
Friend of mine was an SCCA champ for some years with a WS6 gutted with the same square stance size tires
a little loud for my old man ears but it does sound good though I couldn't handle it as a daily. I'm old enough to remember that these cars were the thing when they first came out. I mean everybody had one
Last F body that I remember Matt drove he hated that car. Looks like it likes this one.
Beautiful car!
lol he drove like a beatup 93 firebird
What size are the rims and tires on this? I like the way it's sits. I know you said 305 but you didn't give the other dimensions.
Cray Scorpions 19x10.5
Spacers required
I love the 4th gen F-Body Camaro. I'm also one that likes to be different so I'm building a 97 Camaro with the LT1 and have 480rwhp on motor and about 620rwhp on spray. There is ton's of after market support for these car's and can be built for drag or autocross.
Matt you need to do a SRT4, they are crazy bang for your buck
+Jeffery Kaylor I've tried several times. Every time the car has broken within a week of the shoot.
+TheSmokingTire HAHAHAHA I can see this. I would love to see you review a properly set up Neon SRT.
+Kevin Cormier You can't call it a Neon SRT-4! The owners are (or used to be) sensitive about that. It's just an SRT-4, bro! lol
+TheSmokingTire could you even fit
they're getting old so probably almost free now. every once in a while I see one and they do sound good. I saw one at a road course once all caged, big front (small rear) hoosiers. that guy flew in it.
Im running Continental Extreme Contacts and I love them. Great track and road tire balance.
God, the interior on US cars back then lmao. Sounds gnarly
A actually like them lol
+Double_Alpha_XDm haha who really cares tho. My car rattles a bit too and the interior is nothing special but that's not what a performance car is all about anyways. If anything I prefer the simplicity muscle/sports cars had up until about 10 years ago. Like I don't need back up cameras and Bluetooth or a touch screen nav in my car lol
+05 STi the interiors might not be the best but I know a couple folks with them and never had any problems with any of the interior built quality.
+Eric Heart yeah no doubt. The beauty of it was the simplicity.
S2kTi th-cam.com/video/4h_ca-b9oeg/w-d-xo.html
I love these cars. even the lt1's. always had them and so did my buddies so nostalgia definitely plays a huge part but bang for your buck, these are tough to beat.
That's one gorgeous car.
God I am glad I had headphones in for this. It sounds SOOO fucking good, I wish Matt would've done one last fly by.
Whats the exhaust set up on this? I dont know if they mentioned it in the video, its hard to hear lol
Did you ever find out the exhaust?
Beautiful road, nice loud car, drives excellent. Amazing work guys, thanks for the video!!
have you driven a supercharged e39 m5? I watched the one take you did with a stock one.. just was wondering if you've ever done a modified one?
I saw this car in the background of another video, been waiting for it!
My buddy gonna got his 95 formula with a LS swap and a t56 reviewed and I'm waiting for that one lol
