Even though we already own a doona, I was very excited to see your review. You make excellent points and I agree with them all! We used our doona for international travel to the UK when our little one was only 2.5 months old. I was very nervous about traveling from city to city via uber or public transport but the doona was a life saver! Every uber driver watched in amazement as I walked past the open trunk and put the whole shi-bang in the backseat. Never seen anything like it!
wow! this comment will make me buy it , think!! We will be travelling with our 3month old. I am currently 4 months pregnant and researching the simplest, most minimalistic solution for us :) and of course most comfy for the baby. I was just worried that it doesnt lie flat, but I concluded it is no that dramatic, right?
I just found your channel as an expectant father for the first time and I just want to say thank you for making this content. Especially from a fathers perspective, I often feel like our perspective is overlooked. Keep up the fantastic content! You’re making everyone a better parent one vid at a time.
I have the Doona and I absolutely love it ! Time is a precious thing to me and the convenience that the Doona offers especially if you’re like me and take your baby with you everywhere you go nothing can beat it! I don’t have to think about a thing I just strap up my baby and off we go ! Definitely Worth every penny
I was a bit skeptical when my wife insisted on the Doona, but now that we have it I dread the day my girl out grows it. To load the Doona into the car and get on our way is so easy compared to dealing with a separate stroller and car seat.
I love my Doona! And I will have a hard time to say "bye" to it. My boy is 1.5 yo and we only yesterday bought the next stage car seat. We own a small row house close to the city centre with no possibility to park next to the house. Our parking is about 300-400m away. I cannot imagine dragging almost half a kilometer a regular car seat or assembling it every time on a buggy frame. Ufff With Doona it was one click, wheels out, and we could just stroll home (or to the car). Best buy ever!!! I do realise it is not meant to serve as a regular stroller (no suspension and all) but let's face it - a baby's spine is not meant to curl in a car seat for too long, either. For babies the healthiest is to lie in a flat stroller or in a baby wrap. For that reason alone, I do own a regular size stroller for longer walks. Doona was used for daily commuting and for short city walks. Love it! It will await a second baby now ;)
The Doona is so great for pick up and drop offs to school with my older son. I received the the compact Colugo stroller as a registry gift for when baby outgrows it. Both Doona and Compact Colugo stroller is a great pair.
I just found out about this stroller from being my son to Pre-K the other day and I'm four months pregnant. This is definitely going on my registry, or I'll just buy it myself lol
I considered having the Doona and actually added it to my registry but after some deep thought I decided it wasn’t practical enough for me. I ended up choosing the Cruz with the Mesa. Why not the Doona, it will be winter season and it can be snowy at times. The lack of storage for me as a working mom also is a downside. I would like to have the extensions without having to purchase them.
Im about 6 months pregnant. I am very excited about this and I just got it yesterday. I’m having a hard time getting this to open and fold up from and to car seat mode to on the go mode. The directions are not exactly detailed. The handle HAS to be in certain positions to make moves and changes. My lower back is hurting so I will have to let my husband read directions and figure it out then show me. I have a little doll in it trying it out. This will be my 1st baby
We also have a Uppababy Vista but that like an SUV of strollers. The Doona is a Porsche 911 in comparison to the Uppababy. Does everything well in a small package. The engineering of accessories add joy to fatherhood.
My mom surprised me with a Doona after I told her I wanted one really bad since this is my first child, just took it out the box because I couldn’t wait till the baby shower and i already LOVE IT😭❤️ my finance loves it too.
Thanks for doing this review, my wife has been pleading for me to agree on getting this and I feel a bit more persuaded now that you gave it a good review!
regarding the height of the doona as a stroller my wife is 5'6 and I am 6'2 and I absolutely love the doona it is one of a few available stroller options that are perfect height for my wife to use as well as myself as I find that with my height either the prams are to short and/or I kick the bottom of them constantly. Also as a extra note my wife is having a cesarean so this is also perfect for when it comes to leaving the hospital as we don't have to carry the car seat out with the baby we can just push it along with everything else.
Very pricey but I think it's definitely worth it's price. This stroller/carseat will be very helpful for mother with Csection that unfortunately are on their own or simply when baby's dad is working.
Great video. Really love the concept of this car seat and almost got one. The bigger dilemma for us ride-sharing parents is the next phase: convertible seat plus stroller. I wish they made something like this for that phase. For now, I'm stuck flipping the car seat upside down in the basket and using a bungee cord to secure it to the handlebar. Workable, but clunky and also eliminates the ability to use a storage basket for anything else. Not sure what I'm gonna do when we add baby #2 to the mix.
Christi B check out the mountain buggy nano + Cosco Scenera next. We use this combination when travelling with our one year old. The car seat itself is light and can be strapped into the stroller when we are walking around. Once you’re in your ride share, the stroller folds down very small. Good luck!
If I still lived in NYC I would get this hands down! I’m out of state now in the suburbs so I don’t think I really need this. I considered it for travel, but its a pretty expensive to not use it all the time. I have a suv so trunk space isn’t really a concern. This is baby #2 (12 years apart), and I know that after the baby can sit up I will be bringing a shopping cart seat cover for most shopping, and for anything more involved, my Uppababy stroller will be in use (ie: mall trips). Great review!
My daughter and son in law have one. They love it and so do I!! I wish they had this when I was raising my four. It is a bit heavy, but, once we take it out of the base, it’s all literally downhill!! I think it’s worth the money. Thanks for the review!!
Just a note that I feel like climate is not mentioned enough in these types of videos. Obviously the person watching will know but I still think it's worth mentioning that something like this is not practical for a snowy winter.
@@kaylascott7263 And the salt and slush that would be on them after even a short walk through a parking lot. I imagine it would then melt onto the back seat of the car once it's in the base.
Excellent review. I just got certified as a CPST and was trying to find out more info on the Doona. Love your mention of the rebound bar and load leg also. So helpful!
Thanks for the review. I really like the idea of this but worry about baby sleeping in the car seat scrunched. Ive bought a used egg pram and think I'm going to go with the cybex car seat that can lie flat, and put that on the base. Although it won't be as convenient it does mean baby can lie flat sleeping in the car seat while I'm shopping/visiting people rather than sitting up. I think its a cybex z cloud or something like that.
@@cynthiasantana4019 I know this is a year later, but " the angle of the car seat is not adjustable and hence considered unsafe according to Canadian standards."
If you need to carry this - sleeping baby from the car and up some stairs its a no go. Its short, and the wheels are not that great. Its a no go for me. But great review!
I am about 6 months pregnant and ordered my Doona and just got it two days ago. It’s very heavy without a 10 pound baby in it. It’s boxed up and ready to go back because my husband swears it’s too heavy for me; especially if I have a heavy baby. (Baby already has long legs🤦🏻♀️)
hello we are expecting in Dec this year. And I'm a small framed petite woman who cannot lift much either. I would like to know if you chose a lighter stroller that you purchased. thank you!
I just worry about the baby being in a car seat position for so long. Generally babies shouldn't be scrunched up in a car seat for too long because it affects their spinal development and can affect their breathing. Isn't it best for new born babies to be in a lie flat position? This is an amazing and very clever product, but is it appropriate for the babies development and health?
I've been seeing this sentiment a lot, but that is less of a concern about Doona itself and rather pertinent to all infant car seats in the market. I should touch on this in a dedicated video but you can read how we navigate that here: bit.ly/2KxooHr
Yeah, it's one thing to have a baby in a vehicle in a car seat, there it's beneficial because of safety, but outside of the car, carseats should not be used for a long time, especially if the baby's asleep. There are now some car seats that when you put them on the stroller you can adjust the angle to a more lie flat position.
This is a good point! I was set on this doona car seat-stroller but only good for a quick trip as newborn baby is better to be laying flat for long period.
The transformer bit gave me goose bumps as it perfectly defined what the doona does. Besides I enjoy both the movie and my now newly bought doona. Lots of love to you and your family all the way from London England 🏴
It seems extremely practical! but, my only problem is that it doesn't lie flat, thus I would not purchase. The baby cannot lay down completely like in usual sleep position. Maxi cosi adorra looks more comfy for the baby to me. We will be travelling a lot and it seems that the baby can lay down and even sleep in maxi cosi at nights.. I wish you had that option in doona as well..
My sister got this stroller and I know she’ll probably really like it but my son got too wide for his infant car seat at about 8 months. It started to be a tight fit , he was born with broad shoulders. And also didn’t like facing me in his car seat whenever we were out at 9 months. He HAD to be facing out. I upgraded to a double stroller now that my son is 1 and I have another one on the way. So either way I didn’t have my single stroller for too long. But it doesn’t only depend on how big your baby is for him to outgrow this but also your baby’s preference on facing towards you or away from you. Some babies at 6 months like to sit up and look around. Like mine.
The kid outgrows the Doona at about a year? I see the weight limit is 35 lbs, and that's the average weight of a 4 year old. What prevents this from being used up to or through age 3, assuming "average" weight/height? My wife and I are heavily considering this.
Great info! Questions: do you ever feel it may tip over while in stroller mode? I remember that being an issue with my last stroller. Especially if I clipped a diaper bag onto the handle. Thanks again!
I bought my doona car seat in hong kong and my friend bought me a LATCH base in the US. I am flying back to the US soon, do you think my doona car seat(ISOFIX compatible) is also compatible with the LATCH base too? If not, then I will just use the seat belt to secure the car seat
I just have one question, can the stroller handle be adjusted to change the viewing position for the baby? Thanks for this review, so thorough and answered all my questions that popped to mind, outside of this one.
Things I dont like about this car seat/stroller: 1. It’s heavy 2. Unable to adjust position of handle bar if fully extended 3. Unable to latch to its base because the straps are not snug 4. Unable to tighten the straps in #3 because the loop into the bottom of the stroller, and when pressed on the base, you cannot tighten the straps 5. Because of #4, you have to take the stroller back out from the base, tighten the straps and hope the straps are tight enough for the stroller to latch into the base 6. Because of #5, you better hope your baby isn’t suffocating 7. No cargo net or cup holder. Overall, the design is terrible. It’s convenient but i’ve dealt with these issues for too long. I’ve since bought a Graco car seat and an Uppa Baby stroller. Life is so much better now.
The idea is good until....it snows or rains then you have some wheels to clean before putting baby in the vehicle. Make life easier on yourself and get a mini van to store all your gear. I had a truck and traded it in for an Odyssey, best decision I made.
Is it appropriate for newborn/infants as well? We live in a city and don't have a car so definitely want a hybrid like Doona but just worried that it doesn't go flat(-tish)
Hii Question from someone who has this .If we buy doona is it still necessary to buy another stroller for city walk ? I am NYC based .2. Is It suitable for any weather I am due in April I am gonna have summer baby but what about winters special NYC winters are unpredictable 🤔 .would love to know who have been using this product. TIA.
Have you ever looked at the Neonate BC-8000DV? I really liked mine with my first child but the screen broke and I can’t buy a replacement one, even directly from the manufacturer. Do you know if there is anything else like in on the market that doesn’t cost $300
No, it isn't. I'm 5'2 and it's already small for me. it feels a bit loose as well, like weak when you are walking, maybe it was just the straller of my friend but she just bought it, so I would say that's how it is.
Convertible car seats are meant to be locked into the seat of your car and cannot be adapted to strollers. Stroller adaptability is only the case with infant seats. Good convertibles to consider are the Nuna Rava, Britax Advocate and Graco Extend2Fit.
What seat protector would you recommend for under the car seat? I know you mentioned one in a video a while back, but I can't remember what video that was. Thanks!
I would have been absolutely lost without my doona!!! I do also have the uppa baby vista for mall trips and long walks around town.... currently looking for a lightweight stroller. Bought the diono traverse but the seat is way too small for my now toddler. Might have to bite the bullet and by the minu!!
Yeah I did a review on the Traverze and it's not that great. If you're looking to save, check out the Colugo Compact. Great alternate to Minu and it's $285 instead of $399.
Dad Verb thank you for the recommendation! After careful consideration (a whole two hours), I decided on the minu. I love my uppa baby vista and figured I might as well keep it consistent! I should also mention that I actually didn’t purchase the traverse. It came free with the diono car seat I purchased and I was so excited to use it. I love everything about it except for the fact that my child looks like he is falling out of it :(
Had a quick question on a different video but I wanted to ask it here so it had a better chance to be seen... Does the amazon echo 3rd gen (not the dot) work just like the amazon echo 2nd gen in your baby tour 2.0 video? Ideally what we want to do is tell Alexa to play a looping lullaby from our bedroom (using a 3rd gen dot/Alexa app on the iPhone) so we don’t have to enter the baby’s room and disturb him. Hope the new house is almost done :)
The car seat also gets very heavy as the baby start gaining little bit weight. Definitely requires some muscles when trying to lift and put it on the base in the car.
Baby got a small shock with the opening of the wheels at 2:19 th-cam.com/video/DT8cBwfQL7k/w-d-xo.html. Doesn't it defeat the purpose avoiding a transition from carseat to stroller?
Hi Andrew, thank you for reviewing the Doona. I really want to buy one for our future kids but my friends are telling me that it's not good for babies to be in a car seat for more than 20 min at a time. Do you use this as a normal stroller (longer than 20 min) or just for short walks/drives? I'm just not sure how to use it since I don't have kids and experience with strollers yet.
I've seen this a lot. While that is best practice, a majority of families drive and run errands for way more than 20 minutes. Regardless of the car seat brand, no baby should be in a semi-upright position for a prolonged period of time as it can potentially strain a developing spine or restrict airflow. With that in mind, we personally go by the "2-hour Rule" and it's recommended to supervise vehicle sleep. While I understand the 20-minute thing, it just doesn't seem realistic to achieve. Again, all of this isn't particular to Doona, but all car seats.
Technically best practice is taking baby out every 3 hours. I feel like this still would be helpful though because even if your errands are over 3 hours you can just take the baby out to feed or whatever for 20mins or so and then put them back in. All of this still falls into best practice guidelines.
When reviewing this seat you forgot to mention medical guidelines on how long a baby should be in a car seat, new born in particular. I know it is up to parents to do what they think is best for their family, but more and more convenience takes precedence . Even if you do not want to list through the medical guidelines i think you have a responsibility to provide a link to them so that parents can make an informed choice.
I addressed this in a previous comment but I'll post here too. Of all cars seats that have been reviewed, Doona seems to be the only one that sparks medical guideline concerns. Those same concerns will factor into the buying decision of any infant car seat brand on the market as they're all used very similarly. It's probably better for me to do a separate dedicated video on that, but personally, we be go by the "2-hour Rule" guidelines.
@@dadverb I have a problem with it because it advertises itself as a pram as well as a car seat, yet offers no opportunity for baby to lie flat and has almost non existent suspension to make ride comfortable and even if the company recommends time limits on use, by its very nature it encourages these limits to be exceeded. I don't like any travel system, car seats are for cars, but, this product annoys me the most as at least with traditional travel systems there is at least the opportunity for a responsible parent to lay their baby flat.
crazy to buy this stroller for 500 bucks...i won't buy it...i rather use a cheap one to save money..if they sell it half price or less then i will buy but this is not worth it... i rather use cheap one

Is it okay for a newborn to travel in it? Or do we need a baby cot for that?
Can you do the review of orbit baby g5? Please
Like mine.
Would this fit (rear facing) into a golf gti without compromising diver/passenger leg room?
What isofix bases are compatible with Doona other than the original one? Thank you.
Thank you
I love my donnnaaaaaaaaaa 💙
What was the name of the black light weight stroller??
The kid outgrows the Doona at about a year? I see the weight limit is 35 lbs, and that's the average weight of a 4 year old. What prevents this from being used up to or through age 3, assuming "average" weight/height? My wife and I are heavily considering this.
Great info! Questions: do you ever feel it may tip over while in stroller mode? I remember that being an issue with my last stroller. Especially if I clipped a diaper bag onto the handle. Thanks again!
Hi dadverb
Thanks for all your videos
Just wondering
Which camera do you have if you don't mind :) we are looking for a camera to shoot our baby
I bought my doona car seat in hong kong and my friend bought me a LATCH base in the US. I am flying back to the US soon, do you think my doona car seat(ISOFIX compatible) is also compatible with the LATCH base too? If not, then I will just use the seat belt to secure the car seat
do you have a stroller with a detachable booster for a toddler in 1?
I just have one question, can the stroller handle be adjusted to change the viewing position for the baby? Thanks for this review, so thorough and answered all my questions that popped to mind, outside of this one.
Things I dont like about this car seat/stroller:
1. It’s heavy
2. Unable to adjust position of handle bar if fully extended
3. Unable to latch to its base because the straps are not snug
4. Unable to tighten the straps in #3 because the loop into the bottom of the stroller, and when pressed on the base, you cannot tighten the straps
5. Because of #4, you have to take the stroller back out from the base, tighten the straps and hope the straps are tight enough for the stroller to latch into the base
6. Because of #5, you better hope your baby isn’t suffocating
Cmon bro. A mini van smh lol thats for soccer moms
@@stevend481 and soccer dads haha
Is it appropriate for newborn/infants as well? We live in a city and don't have a car so definitely want a hybrid like Doona but just worried that it doesn't go flat(-tish)
Not good for a new born, I wont buy it because new born needs to lay on back so it's useless ,seriously a waste of money
as long as they're not in for 2+ hours they're fine
Hii Question from someone who has this .If we buy doona is it still necessary to buy another stroller for city walk ? I am NYC based .2. Is It suitable for any weather I am due in April I am gonna have summer baby but what about winters special NYC winters are unpredictable 🤔 .would love to know who have been using this product. TIA.
Any problems with fit inside your car?
it is cool design but as the baby grew up, then we didn't get to use it. i mean it will be worth it if we can use longer
Another inconvenient is that it is not good to keep your baby more than 2 hours in a car seat. What do you think about it?
Have you ever looked at the Neonate BC-8000DV? I really liked mine with my first child but the screen broke and I can’t buy a replacement one, even directly from the manufacturer. Do you know if there is anything else like in on the market that doesn’t cost $300
Sorry Juan, I'm unfamiliar with that particular brand of monitor.
I am 6 feet tall ...is the handle height adjustable??
No, it isn't. I'm 5'2 and it's already small for me. it feels a bit loose as well, like weak when you are walking, maybe it was just the straller of my friend but she just bought it, so I would say that's how it is.
I mean, the handle is not very steady when you are pushing/walking, it moves and that's a bit annoying.
How's GB Pockit All city stroller ?
Do you recommend any Doona convertible car seat (for 2 yrs) that fits to its stroller?
Convertible car seats are meant to be locked into the seat of your car and cannot be adapted to strollers. Stroller adaptability is only the case with infant seats. Good convertibles to consider are the Nuna Rava, Britax Advocate and Graco Extend2Fit.
What seat protector would you recommend for under the car seat? I know you mentioned one in a video a while back, but I can't remember what video that was. Thanks!
Where did you purchase it? I want on their website and it’s 97$ but other places it’s $400 and up
Only down side, babies get startled every time the legs come out which can wake them up
I would have been absolutely lost without my doona!!!
It's a cool carsear. My concern is the bacteria, dirt, etc. you have on the tires and having it touch the seat.
Your baby will breathe Bacteria often. Congratulations to her immune system.
and the wheels dont touch either the carseat or the stroller seat
I just dont think it's so secure with the belt. When I get mine I will have both the base and the belt on :P
Thank you for this!
The car seat also gets very heavy as the baby start gaining little bit weight. Definitely requires some muscles when trying to lift and put it on the base in the car.
This is very true. It'll give your biceps a workout.
Baby got a small shock with the opening of the wheels at 2:19 th-cam.com/video/DT8cBwfQL7k/w-d-xo.html. Doesn't it defeat the purpose avoiding a transition from carseat to stroller?
The only problem with this is dirty car seat after because of the wheels
What is that mechanism on your newborns hand?
It's a teething glove.
I know but like the tires touch the dirty ground and then you put that in your car🧍🏻♀️
Please do a review on the nem pampers Lumi. I haven’t seen anybody doing it yet. I’m so curious about it !🙈
can donna stroller in the plane seat?
Yes, Doona can absolutely be used on an airplane.
How long did you get use out of this car seat stroller before baby didn’t fit anymore?
About the 12-14 month range. Every baby will be different but they'll usually outgrow it by the end of year 1.
Right on.
Thank you!
Any moms have trouble carrying this in and out of their car with the baby in it? Seems really heavy.
Is it good for tall people?
Honestly, no. It definitely favors shorter folks.
@@dadverb thanks for the reply. It helps.
Technically best practice is taking baby out every 3 hours. I feel like this still would be helpful though because even if your errands are over 3 hours you can just take the baby out to feed or whatever for 20mins or so and then put them back in. All of this still falls into best practice guidelines.
Unfortunately this did not pass Canadas Safety standards and is not available here :(
Because Canadians know that it's not really that beneficial for the child's safety to be honest
@@albs1448 no actually it was more than likely the install
Also, why wasn’t this sponsored!?! Omg!
It look great but for that price just the baby to be done with it after year one it’s ridiculous they should adjust
It's a great invention but it's way to expensive. I look at some of these, the price I came across was, 600 that's way to much in this day and time
crazy to buy this stroller for 500 bucks...i won't buy it...i rather use a cheap one to save money..if they sell it half price or less then i will buy but this is not worth it... i rather use cheap one
Go ahead be cheap then.. 🙄🙄🙄
the rollers get dirty so why should i put it to my car seat...
Good point
That’s when you get a seat protector.
It goes in a base. It doesn’t touch your seats
@@kimberlycraft3145 and the way the wheels fold means unless your putting it in wrong way up the wheels don't touch your seats
Looks small and baby will grow out of it fast. The idea is cool but waste of money! Just grab your baby's carseat and attach it to your stroller.
