This worked perfectly to connect to the MacBook Pro! But I did have a small issue with my printer "dumping" random text onto a dozen labels before I realized I had to stop it and reset it. Then only other steps I had to take were to change the paper size to 4x6 in on the settings window itself and to manually change the ink darkness to 25. Has been printing labels great now! Thanks :)

thanks for the video. I try to calibrate and the labels run thru however nothing prints at the end. it also seems to not be setting the page correctly. i start at the beginning of the label but it stops 1/2 way thru the middle of the final label. any thoughts?

I have been using this printer for a while and all the sudden my labels have been printing enlarged so that the only thing that prints is the upper right corner of the label. I have tried to reinstall but it has completely stopped printing for me although it says it is locating the printer and sending the information. In the print queue it appears as if the document has printed with no issue. Do you have any suggestions?

I just bought an lp 2844-z and when I try to calibrate it it blinks red and green. This is my second printer and I'm hoping I don't have to find another one😫 It feeds the labels correctly and measures the space in between correctly but doesn't print.

My Zebra LP2844 printer hasn't been used in about 2 years. I am still using the same MacBook Pro which is now running MacOS Big Sur. My printer will not calibrate as you show in your video. What you say will happen does not. Is there a hard reset to the printer. I reached out to the big Ebay seller that I purchased it from but have not heard back from them. The printer does show up so I can choose it, I tried to print a test label, the window shows it being sent to the printer and shows the job is complete but the printer does not print the test label? So frustrating. I love this printer and really need it up and running again. Any help you can offer is much appreciated.Thanks
Hey man, got this set up as instructed. It did the sample print fine. But when I go to print a postage label it comes up, the print list says printing, then finished, but the printer does nothing. I am selling on Etsy and printing a postage label in the 4x6 size. Page size set on the site etc. Just seems as though the printer isn't recognising anything. Any ideas?
Instead of EPL2, choose ZPL. It worked for me this way

I have a question, do you happen to know how to fix a TLP-2844 hooked up to a MacBook that prints out a shipping label fine (But) then feeds the next label out about 40% , I have to reposition the labels every time I print a label. Make sure you have the correct label dimensions in the computer aswell.
ok how do i get the labels to print vertically? does it have something to do with it being a pdf file? i put the format to 4x6 but its printing out small/ horizontal :(
Did you change the setting on your platform to 4x6. eBay, Etsy etc you have to change the setting at the source.
When i print from the browser (chrome in my case) on a windows computer, the label will always get a little "fuzzy" or "blurred", dont know what that is about, but every shipping service, zebra themself and so on recommend that you download the label, or use softwares like Adobe acrobat Reader that opens the label in the first place, and then it should print out really chrisp and clear (can you say so? Chrisp and clear?)

The only thing i was unsure about was if you could say crisp and clear, i do think you can. Im pretty sure Eric have said that.

Eric, I bought this same printer not that long ago and when I got it set it up and worked fine. It has sat for a little while and now it won't print at all. I feeds the label but nothing shows. I am not sure what I can do to get it to work again. I was hoping you had some suggestions for me to try. I am using Mac as well. Thanks

Can you help me? I work with a shipping company to the US that links with shipping companies where some of the labels work with my Zebra and others doing/ I have tried to calibrate my printer several times for one type of label and it just keeps starting to print on one label and finishing on the next. Totally annoying. Now I'm going to learn how to install the printer on my MAC and maybe whatever i do there will solve my problem. Thanks
Definitely sounds like a settings problem but I'm not 100% sure. Could be formatting do the files too.

You need to use the ZPL driver for that printer.

Hello! Eric (this channel) does have a video (this video) showing how to install the LP 2844 on a Mac. You should be able to buy it from eBay in the UK and watch that setup video and get everything up and running!
I just bought it! it just printed an small tiny label, i cannot adjust 4x6 (Pirate ship), I don't know what my mistake is :(
Pirate ship has a drop down to change the label to 4x6 and it should be good =)
Mine prints but it's too light. I have an iMac and got it printing but can't figure out how to adjust the ink darkness.
Sorry to hear that, There are settings in the print dialogue that can change the darkness. It's in a few drop downs but it will probably help.
Set up my LP2844 as instructed, but the labels are not printing on one label. It's printing over two as it don't seem lined up correctly.

I followed these steps and everything went flawlessly until I actually printed my label. It printed about 10 labels worth of random symbols instead of my Etsy label... It didn't stop even after I deleted the queue. I finally turned it off to stop it.... Any suggestions?

Hi, what is the model number on the bottom of your printer? What driver did you pick, and also what version of Mac are you using?
Had the same issue. it wouldnt stop printing label after label. I was printing a 8.5x11 PDF document. I went back to the create the label and made sure it was 4x6, printed it direct from the application instead of saving it to my desktop and then printing. it fixed the gibberish but my labels still print too big.
You have to click the power button twice to get it out of dump mode

I do not think this will work with the 550. I have not got that model yet.

DPI has nothing to do with how dark the print is. Change the darkness to a higher number. The zebra can only print in 203 dpi so do not change the setting above that.

This printer continually becomes disconnected for no reason and I have to re add it. Prints fine, then the very next label it shows it’s offline. So frustrating being on a max sometimes.

@@lexaborchert52 Hello! Eric got lots to do haha :) Should work just fine, the setup is a little different as the "z" version uses a ZPL driver (from what i know). So the part where he shows what driver to use, just use the ZPL driver instead.

Just found the print darker setting on mac. Click More Settings > Print using system dialog... > change the dropdown from label to print features > Feature Sets: change from General to Printer Settings. You can change the darkness and print rate there

Hi, many thanks for the tutorial. I've followed your advice on my MacBook Pro but when I click the '+' box in the printers and scanners window, the 2844 is not displayed. Printer is calibrated and I've changed the USB cable and re-booted the MacBook but it still does not work - any ideas??

What's up Lou try power cycling the printer while it is plugged in. That might allow it to recognize it. Try another computer if possible to see if it recognizes it before writing the printer off as a loss.

Hey Eric! i have bought a zebra printer based on your reviews and followed your videos for installation on a mac and for the most part it's been great! but i've been having an issue and i'm curious if you've encountered this as well. So the printer was working just fine after i installed it and all but now i run into issues whenever i have to print something, my iMac(latest version of catalina) recognizes the printer but things get stuck in the queue for some reason, when i check "Printers & Scanners" it says the printer is "Paused, Default" and when i try to "resume" the queue even tho the status changes to "in use" stuff is still stuck in the queue. So i have to do some hacks, unplug, plug, try printing from the web, download the label print from my computer, open it into illustrator and eventually one of those methods work but it's always a bit of a hassle. Let me know if you know a fix for it. Thanks!!

@@KathleenWHempaliciousWishes Hi, it's definitely not the best connection but it does work! Because i think i dont print often usually after the printer "goes to sleep" it won't wake anymore lol so i have to do the "installing" over again.

If the printer stops working, I remove it under the Printers & Scanners settings and then add it again by hitting the "+" sign button and following the steps on the video i shared above. Fun fact, after i hit "print in the video" the first label only printed half way so i had to try again and the second one printed just fine!

Any Idea if you can print from an Ipad Pro if you have a zebra printer? with an Ethernet port? I am not seeing it however I see other more modern wireless printers.

From what i've heard you can't print from a IOS device with Zebra's old printers. They have some wireless printers, both bluetooth and wi-fi but they are pretty expensive to buy. You could use your router as a print server (if you have a USB port on the router and the router can passthrough the print signal to the printer) and print wireless from computers, but not from IOS.

Thanks for making this video, I am still having issues after buying the correct power cord, now all it prints is the tracking numbers and half of the bar code and stops, so just about an inch of the label is sticking out. I have reformatted three times, made sure I have the correct download, triple checked my paper size and just about everything I can think of. Any suggestions?
Oh no! What model is yours? Ups lp2844? It says it on the bottom of the printer.

Hope someone can help me with this issue. I followed all the steps and calibrated it too. Idk if this part is an issue but print that comes out of the calibration is upside down. The main issue is that when I run a test print, it only prints half then it stops. It doesn’t print the barcode part. Also it prints it upside down. This has been making me crazy. Already used almost 1/3 of the roll. Please help
Hi that sounds like a power supply issue. What volt/amp power supply are you using?

@Reaching goals I bought the printer the zebra printer LP 2844 it worked for me on my MacBook Air and I used his instruction. I also had help with configuring my settings on word to print out the right dimensions for any label. I’ll show a video how to on my TH-cam channel tomorrow!

From a mac it will be slightly fuzzy but should still scan fine. Have you tried to scan it?

It's the settings on Windows yes. You need to turn dithering off and the label will look better. If it's an Amazon merchant label pick the PDF settings, png doesn't print well.

You may need to Re-install Chrome if you already had your Zebra working on your Macbook originally.

I haven’t got what method you used to make the printer work on iMac?? Am I missing something? I know you said you had a usb to usb but I’m still confused.
Hi Brian, if your iMac has USB ports you won't need any special cords.
thecollegepicker so just plug and play. I have one USB port on the back of the iMac. Maybe two and three lighting ports

So I got a used 2844. Ive followed all of your advice with calibrating and installing the printer drive. When I try to print a test label the first quarter inch of the label prints and then the machine stops. I have to push the button to advance the rest of the label out. Any ideas?
It sounds like the power supply is mismatched. The seller must of only tested for power on and didn't actually print a label. What volt amps is the power supply? It should be 20v 3.25 amps
It is def not the original power cord. I am not an electric person so not sure how this compares.
Input: 11-240VAC0.3A 50/60Hz.
Output: 24v 1000mA
Yeah it's not putting out enough power, seller should refund you $12 or so and you can get a correct power supply and it should be good to go 👌

My Labels print out too big and get printed across two labels essentially cutting the label off. I have it set to 4x6, document is 4x6, I have it as "scale to fit" still doesnt print correctly. Anybody else have this issue?

@@michellel276 I posted elsewhere on this. After lots of trial and error, I found that printing from Safari browser doesnt work because you are not able to do "in-browser" printing. I was able to print correctly from Chrome but you must print directly from Chrome. Do not download the label or use your computers print dialog print settings. The labels dont print very dark but they work. Also, printing from Firefox works too.

Ive been using mac for about over 15yrs now im thinking about switching to a PC. as I get more equipment for graphic work I do (printers, drivers, software, support) there always seems to be some kind of issue or extra step I need to take because im using a mac. 2) sometimes if i'm printing directly from etsy the zebra wants to work and sometimes it doesn't. sometimes it takes me like an hour of restarting my computer and the zebra to get it to work. is there any way to fix this or did i buy a lemon haha
I think USPS only formats for 8.5x11, as for the zebra on mac try power cycling the printer or unplugging it/plugging it in sometimes mac can disconnect from the printers.
@@thecollegepicker i actually figured it out! basically you do the snapshot feature on adobe, rotate the image so you get it upright and then format it for 4x6 (off the USPS website off course) it now works like a charm!
@@thecollegepicker i really love this printer btw. i realized it was a power adaptor i got that wasn't the right amount of output giving me issues. its saved me HOURS from waiting in line at the post office

Just tried this method but when I clicked add printer the zebra wouldn’t pop up? Is there a certain software I need to download for my MacBook? Everything was plugged in and the printer was already calibrated
You did it right, nothing else. Possibly a bad cord, try restarting the Mac, Different USB port, restarting printer. Might pop up 🙏

HELP! Just got this for MacBook Pro...labels not only fuzzy, but very small even though my paper size is set for 4 x 6. Prints about half that size and you can't even see the barcode at the bottom. It's gonna have to go back if I can't figure this out! I need a clean, crisp label. Trying to print from Etsy.
Hi, make sure you go to Etsy and change their settings to 4x6. It sounds like you only changed your computer settings not the source file. Lemme know how it goes 🥰

On computer not on the Etsy app. Go to: Settings (gear icon) then "shipping label options" then scroll down and change it to "format my labels to for 4x6"

Hi it sounds like you are trying to print 8.5 x 11 format on your zebra. Make sure you go into your platform and change the setting to 4x6 on eBay, Etsy poshmark or wherever.

@@LuisValerio Its a great machine, there are some amazon printers that go on sale for $75-$80. I post those on instagram and the deals are usually gone same day. Zp450 is good too but its more expensive. Im about to release a video on the by426bt monday. It just depends what your business needs.

It says “paused” on my Mac then when I click resume, it says it’s printing and the printer makes the printing noise; but nothing comes out

Mine just ended up printing a bunch of triangles and wasted about 12 labels even when I disconnected it it kept going and going and going

@@thecollegepicker I somehow got it to work by ending dump mode when I clicked the front button. However, when I print labels now the barcode section is kind of fuzzy. What would be the reason for this?
Good work, and you are welcome. The Mac driver is slightly fuzzy but will still scan, it's just how it is. You didn't do anything wrong.

I made sure to choose 4 x 6 and “print to fit paper” or something like that ...also I had found a test print pdf from pirate ship but my friend said he had the same problem but that it worked when he used a different sample label ...so maybe try a “real” label and see if it works ???
It sounds like you may have installed the wrong driver. Lp2844Z is a different printer and requires the ZPL driver.

Hi, what platform are you printing from? A lot of the times they will not be set for 4x6 and mercari doesn't have a 4x6 option if you are working with mercari.

Ok, have you changed the settings within those platforms for 4x6? Old 8.5x11 labels will not be formatted correctly, only new generated labels after you change the setting will be working.

Could it be that I have to use an external USB piece? I have a newer MacBook Pro that only hav those C USB or whatever they are called. So I have to have an external piece plugged in to connect the usb
@@TierraQuarles You didn't do anything wrong, it's the power supply. It needs to be 20v and 3.25 amps. ☹️ I had the same problem that you had, it needs more juice.
thecollegepicker I checked and I have a 20v 3.25 amp power source... it came with the zebra. Maybe a new one? I have it all connected and calibrated and still when I try to print a test label...it stops right after the numbers are printed.

Yeah. Once I hooked it up to my toshiba and adjusted the settings to darken it. Now it works on both the mac and microsoft os

You can change it on Mac via the printing dialog
Change "layout" to "printer Features"
Then "feature sets" from "general" to "printer settings" and you should see a darkness setting now, change it to what you want :) Remember to set "presets" to last used :)

Funny how there are a variety of re-occuring issues. Some labels too big, some too small. Some wont print and some print endless amount of "jshdgcsgdy0009*6^^"
Heres what I got after many trial and errors if it helps anyone. Im using Mac desktop OS Catalina, latest July 2020. Printing label using Pirate ship (like in video) Do NOT download or save the label, print from within the platform you are using if possible, e.g. ebay, ups, poshmark, etc. USE GOOGLE CHROME. I kept using safari and safari would not let me print from within the platform, I had to download the label. I was able to print sharp black labels by adjusting the system preferences but they would print too big no matter what I did. So I printed from google chrome because it allowed me to print from within the platform (pirate ship) It prints low resolution because you cant adjust resolution in google chrome print setting but hey, it printed them correctly just besure they are created in 4x6 and paper size is selected as 4x6.
Good troubleshooting! I haven't upgraded to Catalina yet because I'm afraid I'll run into compatibilities 😳. I always use Google chrome but I could see a browser issue being the problem also. Excellent work!
Mad Media Mine was printing only a little portion of my label on the left side of the paper label. I followed your steps by printing directly from chrome and got some progress; it ALMOST printed in full and stopped right above the usps tracking barcode so basically it doesn’t print fully till the bottom. What can I do? I’m frustrated and pissed that I’m struggling with this printer
@@ThePhDGyal Strange. I went through lots of trial and error too, its frustrating. It might have to do with where you are printing from? Pirate ship? ebay? something else? I would make sure the document is set as a 4x6 and when you print make sure the paper size IS 4x6 and that its set to "fit to page". Maybe start over and calibrate it like in the video so the printer knows where the label starts and stops. Best of luck.
I'm gonna scream. No where can I find how to properly upload this sample label to pirate ship. I replayed this video about 10 times and cant see how you uploaded it. When I try it says "file extension pdf not allowed" - so when I tried from my computer, it began printing in symbols and wouldn't stop... so I had to turn it off or waste a whole roll of labels.
