Check out my written comparison of Mackie CR4 and JBL 104 here: digitalstereophony.blogspot.com/2019/05/jbl-one-series-104-or-mackie-cr4-which.html -> 10:21
whoever listens to the original sound and listens to the responses of both monitors would realize that jbl has a response more in line with the original sound, without adding both treble and makie, both are good but jbl is more accurate, more plate and neutral. jbl win.
Yes. The mackies have a broader Q bump at the most sensitive part of the audio range that's why it's slightly brighter than the 104's. I'm not a mixing engineer but to me, for near field listening and monitoring, full range units are the most natural sounding. I don't have the jbl 104's but I have a pair of diy Fostex 108's and a Yamaha NS-500m and I prefer the former's raw sound.
@@OGMeatball I did order them the day I posted this comment, and I like 'em a bunch, especially at the price. I primarily run a guitar direct into an interface, through a DAW with amp-simulator plugins and out through these. For me, the quality and volume are perfect, and the resolution of the playback and the live direct input combined is great. I'd probably like 'em a little bigger, but for my budget and space, they're fantastic.
@@chrisdurham6517 dope , that seems cool man , ordered mine yesterday . Cant wait for them to come, but your comment is actually pretty helpful. I make beats in apartment in my my bedroom. Not a massive room but not small , and it seems like people are saying they work very good in small untreated settings. I got some foam blocks to sit the speakers on , foam padding , some AKG r72 headphones (I think that's the model) they have a clover on them . But they all came with the speakers . Oh and a aux to rca cord too . Cant wait to test em out
@@chrisdurham6517 im thinking on buying these for the same purpose as you, do you think are the best choice?, anything larger just cost so much more, im between these and the behringer 50USB, im just need it to play with an interface and plugins, im just concern abour the volume
@@joseeduardoperezmellado905 Howdy! I've had them for about 4 months with no issues - they are NOT loud, but for the really low price, they are very clear and they work well in my small space. For me, complimented with a reasonable set of headphones (Shure srh240a), I'm set. The headphones plug right in to the speakers, meaning no messing around at the interface when i go from speakers. I like 'em, and my setup was popular with the kids homeschooling during quarantine. Take care!
Mackie CR4 - they sound clean, their sound really looks like small multimedia monitors. In turn the JBL 104 all sounds are mixed in a bunch and It sounds like a portable boombox.
The JBL can he not use a mic. Reason is that the JBL is dualcone speaker. So if you are not on the front of the speaker you lose a lot of sound. This problem do you not have with a 2way lose systeem .
1. Original Track 2. Mackie CR4 3. JBL 104 Personally I think JBL sounds too congested and the frequency band isn't as consistent as the Mackie CR4 speakers. I like the clarity of the Mackie's and the sound of the low end. Thanks for the comparison!
On vocals the JBL are hands down better, and they have all round better control, The Makies are slightly better at the bottom end in EDM type music, but for instrumental music ( classical , easy listening , balads ) JBL every time !
I have the mackies, they are advertised and sold as multimedia speakers and they sounds really really great. Better than any speakers that come with a mini hifi system you would buy. I had an issue with a switch on the back that let you pick wich speaker was left and right, it makes the speakers cut in and out now, im looking to fix it and keep them as multimedia speakers for a CD or record player and look at the JBL ones for mixing my music etc... great video cheers bro
the mackies has a much wider stereo image spread across all ranges and less punch but sounds more balanced for precise mixing and engineering. the jbl sounds like something you can make a beat on the majority of days as it gives you what you should hear which means less ear fatigue, and you don't try as hard to figure out sounds.
Warmer sound with the JBL, but sounds are missing or are downsized. The Mackie CR4 are a bit colder or neutral, but coherent through the full frequency range, thus they are nicer.
Even when the JBL are a little flatter, they have an anoying spike near the 3-5kHz, they lack bass clarity and they sound distorted. This is hands down for the Mackies even with the little EQ and Compression they naturally have, they are more precise.
I thought the same thing at first till I compared them to the original tracks. The JBL spanks the Mackie's and the bass response made sense given the original track comparisons. The Mackie's sound very thin to me and veiled.
I'm really conflicted on choosing the JBL's vs Edifier 1280T for general PC listening - all types of music. Input your basic iTunes library of mixed stuff, most not lossless. Are the JBL's too clinical for casual listening? Would I be satisfied with the bass/midrange?
Hello! I would like you to recommend monitors for me to use with a dj controller at home, it is enough that I can get a good bass range and decent clarity across the spectrum. Thanks a lot.
In my opinion , JBL sounds like a Hi-Fi speaker , it give you more flat listening experience . Mackie also did a great job of it , sound quite similar to JBL .The thing is that the high on Mackie is a little higher than JBL. All in all , thanks for the comparison !!
What monitor would you recommend? Major usage would be plugging in an audio interface for electric guitar (I play rock & metal), and would sometimes use them for normal media consumption. Budget ~$200-$250 USD Thanks!
@@DSAUDIOreview Thanks for your reply man. Sadly I live outside the US and the international shipping would make them out of my budget. And they are not currently on sale in my country. Do you have any other recommendation which would fall into my budget without discount? Appreciated!
Hey i haven't seen a comparison of the JBL C1 pro and J104 i know they are different, but right now for my budget one is USD150 and the C1 USD164 which one do you recommend?
Hey i have a small space i just make Beats .. i was looking at the jbl one series on sale today for 70 . I had the mackie cr4s but was not a fan the were very harsh on the highs . Any recommendations for a small apartment bedroom type set up only trying to spend around 150 ... im mainly focused on clean bass mixing 808s and kicks getting that true translating sound
Hi mate, ive own the mackie ones and they are very very good. Neither of these models are professional reference studio monitors but for home recording they are perfect. A decent set of headphones will also greatly improve your mixing results.
Maybe JBL and Mackie should collaborate and make epic portable studio monitors ...but JBL for me...until the metal track as said by Bill Gio in the comments below 😎✌️
But still, JBL is not multimedia. Monitors for work and when the sound became heavy, JBL showed a smooth sound without decorations, you can work on this sound and makes better, and Mackie shows all the beauty at once.
From studipo monitors I like Kali LP-6, nicely flat yet a pleasure to listen, but they are quite big as well. For something more domnesticated also consider Edifier S2000Pro
@@DSAUDIOreview Thanks for your valuable suggestion. Are LP-6 sold in pairs or single? Do LP-6 and S2000Pro make any loud popping noise when they are turned on or off? Thanks

I agree, a little more accurate and more revealing.
The response curves verified what I thought I was hearing. JBLs a little better bottom and warmer in the mids.
This video just sold the JBLs for my little home recording space. Thanks for the great comparison!

Those mackie's sound like they have a high pass filter. JBL is way better even with it's more compact size.
JBL is more precise I think.
A vs between JBL 104 series 1 and JBL Control 1 would be very interesting.
