The contrast between Wukong and MK is so interesting to me. Wukong spent his whole life obsessed with amassing more and more power, even after he had more than he would ever need. Meanwhile MK is terrified of power and just wants to live a simple life. And even if his methods were kinda flawed, you can tell Macaque tried really hard to streer MK away from that path. The whole lesson he tried to teach MK during "Shadow Play" was to not get so caught up in the pursuit of power that you neglect the people in your life.
@@boomgirlbucko Wukong's life in Flower Fruit mountain was also pretty peaceful, the biggest threat he had to face before venturing into the world was his own mortality.

We meet the reformed Rose Quartz first and Pink Diamond last. I love seeing people talk about this show and your analysis on Mk’s character, but I would disagree with your take about Mk’s character at the end of the season. Mk as definitely grown as a character, but to say that him tapping into his monkey form was an act made through self-realization isn’t quite true. To me him using that power was more of a breaking point for him, a point where he had enough of azure lion and is then filled with anger, frustration, and distraught leading him to use his new form. On top of that although he claims that he’s not a “mindless beast” I don’t think you can say he really has control of his power either. This mainly comes from his uncharacteristic form of confidence paired with his raw rage that he lays onto Azure, in his new form he doesn’t really seem like the same Mk. I agree that by the end of the season he acknowledges his larger role in the world, but I still don’t think it’s something that he fully understands quite yet nor is totally ready to confront, maybe even still be trying to avoid. In the end I agree that he’s grown to confront and fix the mistakes of his past, but now he’s trying to hide from his future and from what he’s to become.
ya the mk in monkey form was clearly not fully in the driver seat. it's clear that his emotions are still leading the charge in that form. Due to the fact the form was still coming out on emotional outbursts and stress. The whole character growth he went thru in season 4 help with gaining some standing in the form but he is still far from mastering it
I'd agreed I'd also like to add I feel he learns not to accept all that comes with his role but how to step up to the plate and deal with what needs to be done. I mean although his monkey form beats the crap out of Azure like Monkey King would've solved the situation. Mk in the end take a nuanced approach and is only able to save the world through taking his own path and doin things his way. When he really just talks to Azure, it's not 'the monkey king' he's destined to be in control, it's just him. I feel like although MK is shaky on who he is. The season 4 special shows him that he can still be his own person and make his own choices, that he is in control somewhat. Because his hero journey started from curiosity and dumb luck, he never asked to be Monkey kid, originally he thought it was sick, but he never took active action to get that role. Now he's taking active action in his own destiny rather than following everyone else and trying to be what others want him to be. He is trying and his special gives him the tools to start working through his issues rather than around them.
Season 4 and the season 4 special is the reason why Moinke Kid is such a great show having MK have to prove that he might be taking up the mantle of the monkey king he isn’t like him and he isn’t putting his friends in danger and that you can change even when mistakes are made

I’m so glad I watched this series and got the chance to meet Azure. He was never a bad guy. He just needed accountability. You can feel how hard he’s trying to make a positive impact, but sometimes life just makes that so difficult. When faced with choosing between our friends or our convictions, we find out who we really are. That’s the price of leadership. The throne never comes for free. Also the voice acting is clearly top tier
Honestly they handled mk's monkey form better than lloyd's oni form. I mean i kinda expected mk to turn into a monkey but I never thought it would actually happen. For lloyd I had a feeling since the oni trilogy that lloyd could turn into an oni but they ruined it as it was only for a few seconds. And garmadon told lloyd the overlord could be defeated permanently if he used his oni form but still used the ultra dragon. Meaning the overlord isn't dead and will return one day.
Yep… Lloyd’s alternative solution will cost the world to fall into another conflict with the Overlord another day all because a dark lord’s son didn’t embrace his heritage and not fall into the stereotype that NOT all Onis are inherently evil. MK did it a million times better and made me love and appreciate MK so much more than ever now!
Now that someone's put it into words, MK and Aang from ATLA share a lot of similarities, though Aang comes to terms with his powers a lot sooner in his series
Naw I feel that the creators took the easy route with that lion turtle bending stealing bs instead of having aang kill ozai. That was a straight up deus ex machine so the righteous hero does not have to kill and accept reality. Kept him from learning that there are those you simply have to put down. Kept him from truly growing up. Yangchen an airbender herself learned this. Monk gyatso himself knew this. He killed a bunch of firebenders before dying.
@@BigJohn303 I have to disagree. Lion Turtles were foreshadowed before and I'd argue that Aang taking the middle road, leaving Ozai alive but powerless, was foreshadowed in the Great Divide, where he didn't side with one faction over the other but instead made his own decision.
Great analysis! So much of this lines up with my own analysis of this season. (Also I love how a good chunk of the video was just clips from s4e7.) The big thing I disagree on is MK "coming to terms with" and "embracing" his powers in the special. I'd say he's _still_ afraid of hurting others (case in point: the ending, where he reiterates his desire for things to stay the way they are now), and he's _still_ afraid of his own powers (after the transformation disappears, he's still glitching, and he stares at his glitching body in fear ). The epic battle with Azure isn't him embracing the powers; it's the powers bursting out because he can't keep them in check any longer, and also because that's the only way he can protect Sun Wukong (who, in s3, said that his powers come to him when he needs them most). He _does_ learn a few things. First, after Macaque's pep talk, he realizes that he's not bound to his destiny and that he can make his own choices. However, as the buildup to the battle shows, he's still _afraid_ of that destiny, and he's really just shelved that thought so he can focus on dealing with the problem at hand. When he finally uses the monkey form, we see full-on the effects of four seasons of character development, but he's not yet in full control of that form (he can't summon it at will, and after it wears off, he's still glitching). Shelving it is one way to overcome a fear, but it doesn't actually address it. … Which leads us into season 5.
Great video! I can't help but feel like this is what Lloyd's arc in Crystalized should've been. However, instead of him hearing the bad stuff about Garmadon, he did have to experience it firsthand so that could've been touched upon too. But hey, no point crying over spilled milk and he is great in DR.
Nicely done video!! You certainly changed my perspective on his monkey form, I thought it was an alter ego hijacking the fight. The form being his true self, unrestrained by his fears makes a lot more sense.
I would like to see a precule series of Wukong and see his journey to see how he bacame the Monkey King. we could see the journey of the qest and see these adventures we heard but never saw, and it could be told in the after season 4 and Wukonf telling everyone about his adventures
4:36 That's because in comparison to MK Azure didn't have any real friends to tell him when to stop while Wu-Kong is learning through MK the errors of his past misdeeds like with Macaque. Azure needed his own MK but never got one and unfortunately in the end it was one of his companions/brothers that ended up being the one who did him in.
As mush as I love Ninjago, this finale did the demon side of the protagonist so much better than Crystalized! The pacing was great and did a fantastic job developing MK.
AUGH THIS VIDEO IS GREAT. You really went in depth for this one, picking apart all the tiny details that even I failed to miss! If anything, this video makes for a great summary of season 4 as a whole, which is perfect for me because explaining this season to people who have never heard of this show before (aka all my friends) takes like 3 whole hours with no breaks. So thanks for diving deep into the character of MK once again! Hope to see you again for season 5!
A suprisingly positiv take on MK's monkey form in the fight against Azure. Becouse to me, this scene didn't look like MK beeing in controle, but more like MK loosing himself in those new powers and his anger over bering tricked by Azure. Monkey MK doesn't even talk like our normal MK. His speach is more like a mix of the ink demon and porty clone. His smile is crazed, his qord choices cockie and resentfull, his fighting stile wild and with no limiter of how much power he is putting into it. Hell, it even concerned Wukong towards the end! I think this video was the first incident of me seeing someone taking MK's monkey form as a positive, while everyone else I interacted with so far (me included) saw it as a big "oh-oh..." moment xD
bro, watching the final battle with "find you flame" playing in the background was 🔥🔥🔥 WILL THE WHOLE WORLD KNOW YOUR NAME!? WHEN WE DANCE WITH DESTINY!!!
Season 4 means that much more to mean with makachs voice actor recording all his lines before he saddly passed... Monkie kid is so freaking incredible both story and animation i just wish the episodes were longer so we could have even more ❤❤❤
I love sunburstduo and this video,i love how you understand that mk monkey form is not evil and is apart of him,it refreshing to see, currently i see the Fandom make mk monkey form into a villain and mischaracterization him. I love how you understood wukong and his character.
YES! MK feared that his monkey/heavenly/celestial heritage would make him fall into evil, but what the special did was that he embraced his heritage and went all out! Accepting who he is and reject that his heritage is not a curse and evil! Something that Ninjago failed to do with Lloyd’s Oni heritage
@@brickbanditstudios6037celestial monkey is more correct I think, since MK's species is a complete outlier from all the humans, divine immortals, celestials, and the others. I think I'm kinda neutral on MK's monkey form. It's not an evil entity, nor it's completely positive. He's just doing what is necessary, but it's extremely destructive and he has to learn how to control his powers better. And that's the thing: it's not a separate entity,it's who he is,and he can still learn to be his better self. And what I think helped make MK's celestial monkey form and Lloyd's Oni form different is the show's different views.LMK tries its best to stick to the core of the original epoch and the...system (?) of the original mythology.Like how their 'demons' aren't exactly like christian/european demons, but strange creatures that can choose to do good or bad. Most of their origins aren't even related to hell (well, there are demons in chinese hell, but that's not what I'm talking about),especially the animalistic ones.A lot of them are animals that practices a certain technique to gain a human body (an adaptation of Wukong from 2010 does this) or gets powers from the deities around them (goldfish demon, scorpion demon). Some are called a demon because of their deed despite being something from a revered position, like Yellow Tusk & Golden Peng that eats humans. And they can reform too, just like Wukong, book Red Son & PIF.
I finished this series recently and immediatly fell in love with it season 4 being my favorite especially the ink stuff and mk's arc was so good this season :)
I felt like mk needs to go thought a self accepted arc for his monkey form (i dislikw how the Fandom makes his monkey form into something evil, when it not),he got a long way to go and i don't think he become the harbinger of choas, that his fear,he can chose that path way but with how s4 ended i don’t think he will,if the show does a villain mk arc with the monkey form it will feel very disrespectful to wukong and his character.
Yes!!! I really agree with you,I also think the fandom is taking 'Harbinger of Chaos' too deeply when it could just be something used to get into the poor kid's head. The fandom needs to remember Chinese 'demons' are strange creatures at best, not pure evil.Even Red Son and PIF redeemed themselves in the book.
I especially like how we finally got context into Wukong and Macaque story and how they became who they are and how it ties into mk story. Great analysis by the way you should touch upon Macaque one day for one of theses as he's also a really interesting character.
really didn’t think a scene as epic and compelling as the ink curse battle could exist. “Hitting you with scary ideas and personal revelations but also my fists” is a trope I desperately need more of
Thank you SO MUCH for the review. Season 4 is absolutely my favorite season and my favorite content i've ever watched this year and one of the best things i've ever watched.
Honestly the amount of charm, character building, lore, and powerful emotion that this series manages to pack into 11 minutes should make the Wildbrain ninjago writers feel extremely insecure
I've been a ninjago fan for a long time now, but after watching all of Monkie kid a few weeks ago, it Completely pushed Ninjago to the side. Monkie Kid is by far the best lego series out there 🔥🔥🔥
I'm surprised that you didn't mention it but I found it interesting that he denied being mindless but not an animal I felt like it was an omission that his powers are monstrous/animalistic but he was very much in control of them at the moment
I love to see more Monkey Kid Videos! Big thumbs up! 👍 Honestly people need to give Lego Shows a chance, they can and did write wonderful storys with great Characters, that it hourts my soul that so many people neglect them because "Its Lego, It cant be good"
Thank you for bringing this all to light, though many will overlook this series it truly is one of the best shows in recent memory, and it’s Lego so it’s like 1000x cooler too
I am going to get this off my chest: Monkie Kid Season 4 had better set up and payoff with its superpowered evil side (Monkey Form) than Ninjago did with its (Oni Form). They had the build up and made it feel like a threat that the audience should fear, and not make it feel like a cop out that didn’t really do anything. My major hope for season 5 is that they somehow build off of the Monkey Form. you don't just give a character like MK this kind of power and then take it away from him the next season. With Mei, it's somewhat excusable since the Samadhi Fire technically no longer exists and is now merged with her, but even then, the Samadhi Fire has noticeably transformed Mei's powers. With MK... there's ZERO excuse for getting rid of that.
God i love season 4. Wukong past is legit hunting him down. I woukd of loved to see more of the pilgrims but the parels between them and MK ground were striking. And you just have to love camel ridge trio
okay i don't mind the idea that mk gave in and accepted the monkey form but with all of the trash talk and the type of trash talk mk gave to azure i don't think that mk was truly in control i took it more of a one of those "silent rages" sort of moment like your absolutely angry or in this case out of control but you're still able to keep some form of control but not in a complete or good form if you know what i mean
TRUE FACTS RIGHT HERE! This is a perfect example of embracing your heritage! Ninjago, you should’ve learned from what Monkie Kid did while you guys failed to do.

I am still disappointed that The Lego Movie franchise didn´t get it´s own 2D animated series, don´t get me wrong I like Unikitty! and how she got her time to shine on her own show but Warner Bros really missed on the opportunity to just make a show with Emmet and his friends, that way everyone could get their time in the spotlight, there is just so many creative stories to work with on a series based on The Lego Movies, like an episode involving Emmet deciding to make an ant rock band just because, plus it plays on Emmet´s name being another name for an ant which is genius! And Unikitty joins in on it resulting in them creating a battle of the bands with bugs, it then escalates into the two going overboard as they go to the zoo to add more competitors to the competition and free all the animals but they start to realize their mistake as the wild zoo animals begin rampaging through town like that wasn´t obviously bound to be expected, I believe that there is potential for a Lego Movie series to happen in the future but regardless of that, I am excited to see what Universal´s new Lego Movie is about when a trailer for it drops.
ever think about how the whole reason Wukong is a self-absorbed lone wolf is because he lost all of his friends and he lost them because he was forced against his will to kill or imprison them all and he never actually got justice for being used as a living weapon and he was so upset about being unable to achieve the peaceful life he wanted that he hated himself and actually pushed his remaining friends away as he fell further and further into a pit of fear and self loathing? *I’ve certainly never considered such a thing*

@@BigJohn303 I have to disagree. Lion Turtles were foreshadowed before and I'd argue that Aang taking the middle road, leaving Ozai alive but powerless, was foreshadowed in the Great Divide, where he didn't side with one faction over the other but instead made his own decision.
The guy who voices MK also does the voice of Sokka from ATLA, so yeah.
I still think there will be a season 5 because of that ending but maaan i love this show
There absolutely HAS to be a fifth season, too much is up in the air for them to ignore.
Season 5 is announced 🥳
They say it's going to air in December.
@@khanhuyen-co7ftI hope 😭
Good news!! Trailer dropped!!
Great analysis! So much of this lines up with my own analysis of this season. (Also I love how a good chunk of the video was just clips from s4e7.)
The big thing I disagree on is MK "coming to terms with" and "embracing" his powers in the special.
… Which leads us into season 5.
season 4 as a whole was truly amazing, i love mk's arc in this season
Ah yes. The better Crystalized Oni ark
THERE! Someone saids it here! ☝️
No one gonna talk about how Azure lion is voice by the VA of vegeta and son wukong Is voice by the VA of goku?
It almost reminds me of how super saiyan was at first, inverting the traits the character was shown as before
I have been wait for this for 4 months now
bro, watching the final battle with "find you flame" playing in the background was 🔥🔥🔥
WILL THE WHOLE WORLD KNOW YOUR NAME!?
WHEN WE DANCE WITH DESTINY!!!
I’VE BEEN THERE! AND I’VE SEEN IT! I AIN’T EVER GONNA STOP BELIEVING!
The ending was basically Crystalized and Dragons Rising together but WAY better
Amazing video! This special was truly the best we've had yet and I'm only excited to see what comes next
This show is perfect perfect down to the last minute details
Monkie Kid is by far the best lego series out there 🔥🔥🔥
A show so good that the main character being the Monkie Kid can feel like a twist.
Literally better than ninjago already
I'm surprised that you didn't mention it but I found it interesting that he denied being mindless but not an animal I felt like it was an omission that his powers are monstrous/animalistic but he was very much in control of them at the moment
I love to see more Monkey Kid Videos! Big thumbs up! 👍
Honestly people need to give Lego Shows a chance, they can and did write wonderful storys with great Characters, that it hourts my soul that so many people neglect them because "Its Lego, It cant be good"
Even within the LEGO community. Whenever there's something that isn't Ninjago, people will immediately write it off as bad.
@@dangerbuffrocky Personally I love Monkey Kid, it's really great
Does anyone remember Nexo Knights? 😌
So hyped for season 5
Everytime I hear azure lion and wu kongs voice I think of all might and goku and I die everytime
This show might possibly be the best thing to ever have the Lego name attached to it 😊
Thank you for bringing this all to light, though many will overlook this series it truly is one of the best shows in recent memory, and it’s Lego so it’s like 1000x cooler too
Holy shit he looks cool in his monkey king form it gives me super saiyan four vibes
ALSO THERE ARE 2 DRAGON BALL ACTORS
SEAN SCHEMMEL AND CHRISTOPHER SABAT
@@CarGuy77And one of them plays Sun Wu Kong, which is GENIUS!!!
Nah still cant believe they god the english voice actor from goku act this
God i love season 4. Wukong past is legit hunting him down. I woukd of loved to see more of the pilgrims but the parels between them and MK ground were striking. And you just have to love camel ridge trio
WOW i can't believe lego cooked better then modern mcu when it comes to new characters lol
Just finished the finale and it was EPIC!
"Do not be so focused on what you want that you don't see what you need to get there." Is a solid bit of advice.
okay i don't mind the idea that mk gave in and accepted the monkey form but with all of the trash talk and the type of trash talk mk gave to azure i don't think that mk was truly in control i took it more of a one of those "silent rages" sort of moment like your absolutely angry or in this case out of control but you're still able to keep some form of control but not in a complete or good form if you know what i mean
Monkey MK is just better Oni Lloyd lol
Fr cause Monkey MK actually did something
TRUE FACTS RIGHT HERE! This is a perfect example of embracing your heritage! Ninjago, you should’ve learned from what Monkie Kid did while you guys failed to do.
Man, if Lloyd be an oni just for oni to end the overlord then that won’t be an issue. As well as MK, he is able use his monkey form to defeat azure.
The IBO comes by and snaps one back to our world and future, which means no matter how much you change, whats done is done.
ANOTHER BANGER I LOVELOVELOVE MK'S ARC
I think monkie kid is a really good show but i think you should also make a video about lego dreamzzz is pretty good

Great video.
Great video and i love the character analysis for MK! ❤ Also, I have seen tidbit but i dont know where to watch the even 3rd season officially.

the series does not have the depth u give it credit for bro
I mean - nothing he said isn’t true. This is all pretty plainly what the show was trying to present, it’s not that deep and this guy’s not saying it’s any deeper than that. It’s exactly what we see on screen. Just cause a kid’s show has a message to tell doesn’t mean pointing *out* the message is suddenly “digging too deep”. It’s just reading the room.
