Stuck In A Tiny Off-Grid Cabin During A Blizzard

- This is a longer version of my trip to the cabin. I went out to my off-grid cabin to check on it. We've had two whiteout blizzards in two days and negative forty temperatures. Little did I know that another blizzard would hit and I'd be stuck at the cabin until the backroads could be plowed. Backroads are susceptible to bad snowdrifts because of the open prairies and rural location. These drifts will make the road Impassable to the average vehicle and aren't a priority for plowing. I made roasted duck in my clay oven and crepes on the woodstove I split firewood and kindling then loaded up the woodstove and went to bed. In the morning I had breakfast, split more wood, collected snow to melt and did the dishes. I also washed the dish towels before packing up. I decided to walk to see how the roads were.
Please read the description for more information
Man.. a lot of blizzards .. weird. Thanks for the video brother. Stay safe out there.
3 blizzards and -40 in 4 days. Thanks for watching Mark
What a great video Ken! Thank you. I watched it both times, the original and the director's cut lol. Hope you get out there again soon. PS: the duck and crepes looked amazing. Perfect blizzard cabin food.
Lol! Thank you very much Jeremy! I love being at the cabin in weather like that. Too bad it also makes the roads a nightmare. Take care!
I hope you made it out OK, Ken. Stay safe and stay warm
Thank you very much Sean!
That was awesome, except for the cooking part. Looked like an autopsy on Daffy Duck. Just kidding. 😂
😂😂
I'd like the "Cabin Special," please...and I like my duck a tad on the rarer side, and those crepes look delicious too!
I sure like these longer cabin episodes, Ken.
Thanks for your efforts putting these together...
Thanks Dave! One cabin special coming up! Lol! Duck can be tricky in a clay oven. Thank you so much for watching my friend 🙏
I love how you live and survive in your cabin especially your cooked chicken wishing you long health i can see you are a strong man good luck i love watching you do things around your cabin wishing you well cheers for the video .
Thank you very much Andrew! I appreciate you watching 🙏
Great comment!
Great video!
@@CHARGERDON55 Thanks Don!
Wow! Looks fun and scary!😮
Thanks for watching Dominic 🙏
Sry someone ransacked the cabin. That’s a real violation of an old code. I’m half-way through a build in the U.P. and it’s unsettling to think about. Your channel is a solid find. Liking the pace.
Thank you very much Chris! Good luck with your cabin Build!🙏
Coiuld have been worse, you could have been stuck in town on the grid with no electric and no heat.
You are absolutely right!
@@Thelonelyscavenger When we get bad weather we take the dogs and some food go down to fishing cabin at the back of our property and stay it out.
@TheREALOC1972 That's awesome! Thanks for sharing that 🙏

@@Mountaincamping-u4v Thank you very much 💕
At least you had a cabin and didnt have to be in a tent. Your comfortable.
Before my cabin I had a homemade hot tent
I love nature and camping in the forest
@@Mountaincamping-u4v I seen your videos. You are very strong to carry everything 💪
No kidding captain obvious
Thank you for inviting us along ! May I ask if that was an Eagle Owl at the end please ?
It was an Owl at the end. Thanks for watching Robert!
You seem to love the temperatures and the snow......... me
I would like sitting by the fire with a crown royal and coke lol
Lol! I love both....snow and sitting by the fire drinking 😂
Have a good woodstove
I made that stove myself. I can't afford to buy one. Thanks for watching
Hi love your videos I got a solution for your phone battery usage they have a crank generator that you can use to charge different items it ll work great if you don't want to go solar not sure what the price s are these days stay safe love the cabin keep warm
Thanks! I'm working on getting another battery pack soon. I appreciate you watching 🙏
Reminds me of when I lived in Alaska. I'd rather be there than down here by the beach in Florida.
It's probably because of the solitude and quiet
Fl sucks, flat and humid!!
Wow I could live here what a great cabin
Thank you very much Greg!
I know you said you’re from Alberta, are you far from Manning? Just trying to get a feel for the weather my son faces every day. Thanks, have a great day my friend.👍🇨🇦🙏
Manning is a couple of hours away. It's been years since I've been there. Take care🙏
@@Thelonelyscavengerwe need that snow in ŔedDeer
What are the dimensions of your cabin please sir?
It is 8x8 ft. Thanks for watching 🙏
❤
That says a lot where you live and you state that was the worsted winter storm you have seen❤
@@LindaSimic-qt3mh The worst I've experienced at the cabin. But I've been through worse in the past. Our winters are milder now. Thank you so much for watching Linda💕💕
Never been a big duck fan.
It definitely has to be cooked properly. We got it from my wife's uncle. Thanks for watching Chad!
I never had ir but I heard they're really greecy!
Sittin' here a thousand miles from nowhere
In this one room country little shack
Sittin' here a thousand miles from nowhere.
Nice reference 🙏
Still stuck out there Ken ?
@@williammeek7218 No. I make a short and long version of my cabin trips. Some people like one or the other. Thanks for watching William! I hope you are doing well 🙏

Glad you enjoyed it
Wait,I've already seen this....
@@cyndeeh I make a short and long version of my cabin trips. Some people like the longer videos. Thanks for watching
The battery on the phones needs work ...they think it's something impressive you have to get it to last 5 days at least. ...then I'll be impressed
You need to stay out there for a few days and flim
@@DejuanJC14 Thanks! I'm saving up for a battery pack so I don't have to worry about my phone and camera dying
Your not to exciting maybe you should have a dog those campers are great with there dogs all I love you Tobey!!!!!
I can't afford a pet plus it's too dangerous out there
All trees near if can climb during day climb up loop a rope near top come down do same with main menace trees then all the ropes from your tie pull in the opposite direction off your hut n tie it with some pressure that way if goes doen it be pulled opposite direction too you saving the fall...i know just chopping trees down be easier but if you wanted too keep trees...i call this idea tree pinning ..does such a thing exist or the dumbest idea you ever heard lol...cheers
It would work for some trees. These tress are over 80ft tall and 15" diameter. Thanks for the suggestion 🙏
turn the bright lights off no fake blizzard
@@MikeFoley-w1z how else would you see it in the dark?
Not comfortable
Wow and you have urber eats at your cabin ken you need to call barbie for moral support poor baby
Thanks! I have an old cooler I use as a pantry.
You really need to invest in a solar powered chargeback so comes in handy when your phone is dying and also maybe get yourself a crank charger/ radio
The radio on the video is solar and crank. I can barely feed my family let alone invest in electronic gear. Thanks for watching 🍻
