    I have never Rodeoed a day in my life and this song makes me miss it. I can only imagine how he feels walking off the stage and riding off in front of that sold out crowd. Has to be the best feeling in the entire world.

    I saw this live and was very impressed. I just happened to be with a girl I was dating and very much hoping to get serious with. It was such a special moment seeing her face while this song was playing. Now I’m watching it with that same girl while we wait to go grab our kids from daycare.

    Yellowstone S4E9 brought me here. The song itself is quite well written. The way the lyric dances across the backing track, the pentameter is impeccable. And then there's the arraignment. Tele on the left, Lester on the right and the steel guitar crying in the middle. Good catch with Yellowstone. It was a perfect fit for the storyline.

    I just love this song. I am now 60 years old but growing up, I was a barrel racer. I lived to chase cans. The rodeo environment is life blood. I miss it so much. My nephew has taken up roping so I still get to live vicariously through him. Thank you Cody for keeping real country alive.

    Not very many songs bring a tear to my eye. But as a retired Rodeo Saddle Bronc Rider who had to leave the sport way too soon, this gets me.

    • @Chris-pt5gc
      @Chris-pt5gc 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The only person that retired was you retired on yourself. Many different ways you can still be involved with rodeo but you choose the direction that you're on. Understand it's not wise to get back in the saddle, but rodeo is a lifestyle like trucking is a lifestyle. If it wasn't good for me to be in the driver's seat, I certainly won't retire or quit. Many different ways you or I can still be part of something that can't explain the love we have for what we do. It's the passion for the lifestyle we love. Love what you do and you will never ever work a day in your life and getting paid for doing what you love feels like a bonus.

    • @Chris-pt5gc
      @Chris-pt5gc ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @Johnny White
      Everyone is entitled to their own opinions. I choose not to quit and most likely never retire. The day you retire, is the day your putting an expiration date on yourself. My individuals that do, not long after = Die of boredom. Just like many who have been married for 50years go home shortly after the spouse passes on.

      He owned the Houston Rodeo that night! What makes it even crazier is that he was the replacement act with only a few days to prepare when Old Dominion canceled at the last minute due to a death in a band member's family. There were very few people at the swag stands before he played. Afterwards there were long lines at every one. Cody played to a packed house and made everyone a fan.

It is possible to not like certain types of music and just walk away from it. You might be better off anyway. Why even start a debate? No one wins. Like what you want. Let other people enjoy their choice. It's a big world.

    Here I sit, with a beer in my hand two years later from when I forst saw this video, with tears in my eyes and a beer in my hand. What a beautiful song this is, and what time I've had between then and now. I never thought this song would be the soundtrack of my life last year, but what a roller coaster its been.
    Leaving my job of over seven years, moving into a new workplace, the new job not working out, and onto another place. I'm not making the most money, but I make enough to get by, and I've been meeting some amazing people every day. I've lost some friends, and made some new ones. My heart was broken, and now its being patched up.
    This song has become a focal point for me as I go through this journey, as I'm still learing to be human.

    One of the reasons I love country music is it’s relatability, this song is a prime example. Cody Johnson writes a love letter to the sport of rodeo, a sport he loved with all his heart but ultimately had to give up. The feelings in this song resonate with me and my love of baseball. I miss college baseball. There truly is nothing like it. The camaraderie with the team. The daily grind of pushing yourself to get better. Cody says it best “somehow the highs outweigh the lows and I’d do it all again even though we both know, I’d still have to let you go.” Life is good, and I wouldn’t change it for the world. But to not look back is impossible. The bond I had with baseball and all that came with it was irreplaceable. I guarantee you right now you’ve got something in your life that you cherish like this. So whatever it is, cherish it a little more. Because one day it’ll only be a distant memory, and you’ll have to look back wondering if you loved it enough.

    That Ol' Texas Cowboy is straight gettin' after it there, boys and girls! CJ is what Country/Texas Country has been needin'!
    Lotsa straight truth and authenticity! You can feel everything! Boyd Palhemus, ( Rodeo announcer/commentator), would and is definitely proud and honored to share a spotlight with this Texas Cowboy!
    King George has an upcoming Texas Cowboy and son he is proud of!
    When CJ has his Rodeo moment after his song has ended, he gets to have his special moment in front of a true crowd! That is the real Cowboy ride! Couldn't you imagine?!
    His ride and attention after the song is like strolling up the 18th hole with at Augusta knowing you've got it covered for the rest of the way on out!
    Very humble and a badass!
    - Go get 'em, CJ!

    One of my fav songs! I was born and raised in San Antonio, rode horses for years-English saddle-rode in 3 big parades a year, many horse show competitions and yes, rode in the rodeo. The rodeo wasn’t a competition but showing English saddle riding and what we could do without anything to hang onto! At first I was a member of a group of girls-GIRL SCOUTS! I was determined to get the Horsewoman badge…little did I know how it would change my life. I never got off after that! I’m a senior now, can’t ride anymore 🥲and do whatever I can to support Wild Mustang Rescues. (Skydog Sanctuary). I have also spoken to GirI Scout troops about dedication and the love of horses. I don’t know about you, but I have 2 artificial hips. I spent a lot of time on the ground! English saddle you hang on with your legs or you’re off on the ground!! I also have a huge love of watching bull riding! Keep singing Cody! You’re really a star!!

    This is one of those songs that even if you don't rodeo, it hits you deep for whatever passion to chase something and not being able to achieve it. Sometimes knowing its better to walk away and find a new passion to chase rather than the continued heartbreak.

We joked about my cap, one of his, said it was his favorite style, wore it until they put his name on it, than he kind a shrugged and said "can't wear no cap with my own name on it...I laughed and said what about Cole Swindell, he does? He got a big old smile on his face and laughed..."don't get me started man!" is all he said. Really special that he took the time to talk and be real with my wife and I.
