This is why I still love Southwest. I was flying home from Vegas on a Sunday night. A female flight attendant did her spiel in an Elvis tone. Near the end she said she was going to hand out peanuts while we are taking off. I was in the first row; When we powered up and the airplane rotated, she dumped a whole box of packaged peanuts that went flowing down the aisle due to the slant on the take off. She got back on the radio (in Elvis) and told us that she told us she was going to pass out peanuts. It was the most entertaining and outrageous thing I ever saw.
And she probably got disciplined or fired for still being standing up during takeoff - an incredibly stupid move that could have seriously injured her as well as whatever passengers she might have been flung into.
Love these two. When I flew my biggest "joy" was giving the announcements in French and English. Would have loved to be able to interact like these two.
I was on a Delta flight many years ago where a sloppy mouthy passenger was upset about not getting any more booze. The flight attendant turned to him, smiled sweetly and told him the "lounge is **downstairs**, sir, they'll be glad to serve you!" I don't know if he shut up from the shock of being confronted, the previous booze finally hit him, or he was trying to figure out how to get "downstairs". Either way, he was quiet for the remaining flight after the rest of the cabin snickered.
"If they can't be like them do not, do not apply for the job". Unfortunately, your assertion is wrong: Southwest management gives permission to their flight attendants to be this silly and playful. Their policies and regulations are different from other airlines. In my Airline, If we act like that, We get fired. I work for a much bigger airline than Southwest here in the USA and our management does not allow us to act like clowns. Call it "company culture". By all means, I dont want to take anything away from SW as this concept WORKS for them, but not for other airlines.

Sure, others will comment “ lighten up” but would you want your surgical team to be doing a skit while you’re being hooked up to the monitor and such in the OR? There’s a place and time for humor and this is not the time.
You must be fun at parties! Also not a fair comparison. You’re 180X more likely to die in surgery than in a plane crash. And I would love if my surgeon was joking around with me, calming my nerves and making it feel like I had a friend during a stressful situation. Also also you can hear everyone laughing on the plane. They conveyed all the necessary information while building rapport with the guests. Would you rather have a flight attendant who loves their job or one who is just going through the motions?
Absolutely love them! The airlines should encourage their attendants to come up with things like this to help their passengers relax before take off!
