A common issue with the 2nd generation Acura RL! The navigation screen goes black/ locks up or freezes. The DVD player located in the trunk was manufactured by Alpine and needs to be sent to them to fix!
Over time in 2005 and 2006 Acura RLs the DVD components fail. But the DVD hardware is very easy to remove.
This video will explain how to send the DVD to Alpine!

Where do I get the sheet to send the navigation unit?
You need to contact Alpine via phone or email and they can supply all the necessary paperwork!
Can you clarify -- (I have the same problem) -- what did the repair cost you in the end? It sounded like you were able to get Alpine to reduce the price or otherwise -- can you clarify how you did that?
Okay so the total cost was $358 + shipping the unit to them. They will cover the cost shipping it back to you. They are located in California so shipping cost will depend on your area. I was not able to negotiate the price. It is a flat rate of $358 and doing some research I have deduced that this price has not changed since the car was new. So the price is justified for a functional screen, just have to bite the bullet.

hello from Russia,, faced with the same problem, with a cold start the screen shows minutes 5 then black and freezes. How did you solve the problem? I do not know English, I can only translate the text.

@@mr.hondamods hi, yes i have replaced the board which is in the pc card slot. There was a problem with the chip, which, as I was told in the workshop, fell off.
Update? Fixed?
It fixed the issue.
