    What was your favorite performance by Kate Bush?

      My favourite performance was when I saw her live at the Hammersmith Odeon live in London 1979. I’ve seen some amazing gigs but Kate at only 20 years old gave me possibly the best live experience of my life. A genuine genius.

    Kate Bush is a poet who puts her words to music.
    And, her music is the platform for a her words.
    Kate's song, 'The Man with the Child in his Eyes', is one of those tunes that is written by a person who has magnificent insight into the human condition and is able to express it.
    The term 'Artist' is an over used
    word, now.
    Before, an 'Artist' was only for those who truly understood and shaped how we think and feel deep within ourselves and, by their creativity, altered our thinking.
    Kate Bush is a true Artist!
    She has taken her influences and made the world a better place to live in. X

"Never For Ever" and "Lionheart" might not be as innovative as some of her later work, but they're like storybooks for grown-ups, inventive and eclectic. "Aerial" from 2005 is also quite adventurous and mature. But really, all her albums are worth exploring. You'll have a great time. :)

    I think it’s an insulting to Kate to compare Taylor Swift and Adele to her. When in either of those above mentioned (other) artist’s careers have they ever released even one single song, without at least one other songwriter also taking 50% of the credit? (I can’t think of a single instance). Yet Kate has solely written ALL her material both lyrics and melodies completely and consistently on her own (apart from one single instance of a co-write with Prince in her entire 45 year and counting career). When have either of those other artist’s ever been responsible for programming or playing most (if not all) of the instruments on their songs? (Not very often and in Adele’s case never)!

      Taylor Swift has many songs entirely written by her and many instances she’s played guitar and/or piano as the main instruments on her songs so don’t get ahead of yourself. In fact her entire album Speak Now was entirely written just by her. The comparison doesn’t take away from Kate’s talent, and you don’t have to put other artists down to elevate Kate. Why can’t they all have crowns?

    I love Kate so much, all new fans should watch this! She was such a pioneer. I've been a fan for three years and she changed my life. But did the first word you said have to be "reclusive"? I don't think she is. I've heard stories of people seeing her, if they are true or not we can never know of course. She just wanted to live a normal life taking care of her child, and she likes her privacy like most of us do. She makes music when she feels like it and gets inspiration and not for fame. I admire her for this so much. It also makes her more mysterious, and when we do hear from her like just a few days ago it is so much more rewarding because we get to miss her.

    2:25 Kate Bush is the rare kind of artist that is so gifted with phenomenal talent, insight, grace, poise, beauty and emotional intelligence at such a young age, that she left people awe struck when she first debuted. Many famous British recording artists including David Gilmour and Elton John were amazed that someone so young possessed the ability to write songs like: "Wuthering Heights" and "The Man With The Child In His Eyes." As a young fan of Hard Rock and Heavy Metal in the early 1980's, I still found myself loving every Kate Bush video that appeared on music television. Kate's music is operatic and classically influenced, but countless Rock musicians adore her, including the members of Def Leppard to name but one. Kate Bush is a true original. There's no one like her.

    WISH we could ALL just call the song what Kate Bush herself calls it, it's _original_ title, the one radio stations in the 80's refused to call it, if you know, than you know it.... 'A Deal with God'. THAT rolls off the tongue better & was _her_ desired title for this song.

      @Ghost Mail. It doesn’t matter how people get introduced to Kate, it’s just great that they do. I’ve been a fan since day one (1978) but I love it when younger people discover her.

    • @Codex7777
      @Codex7777 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      She actually chose to change the title herself because she didn't want it to sound too religious. It's the correct title. The name she chose to release the song under. Songwriters usually go through various different titles for songs before they decide on the one they're happy with. The earlier ideas for the name aren't the 'right' name. They're the discarded names. It's fine if you want to refer to songs by such , names, though people may not know what you're talking about, but having a go at people because THEY don't use your favourite discarded name, is a bit silly, tbh... :)

    • @Cicilo1983
      @Cicilo1983 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      The record company was afraid that the single would be boycotted if some people felt that the title had a religious undertone. Kate agreed to make this compromise, which is something she rarely does. I take it as a sign that she didn't feel super slighted about this.

      @ghost mall Well, consider this - in 1985, I was a fifteen y.o. living in Canada, which means I'd never had a chance of hearing anything from Kate Bush, even though she had already released four albums at that point. Then someone turned on the radio and this song - "Running up that hill" - came out of nowhere, sounding like it was from another world. I became a fan from that day on. According to your statement, this implies that I had just hopped on (in this case, because of the release of the "Hounds of Love" album) and that I'm not a true fan. I don't think it works that way. We all hop on the wagon at some point or another...

    • @danbrockettDOP
      @danbrockettDOP 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I'm also a huge XTC fan and they released the single, "Dear God" in 1986, about year after Hounds of Love was released. As you might imagine, the stations here in the US that would even play it and other stations all over the world received bomb threats, death threats for playing that song, it professes Andy Partridge's non-faith that God even exists. I'm a Christian and I find it ridiculous that artists, particularly these two favorites, Kate and XTC, had to worry about not being played, death threats and other ridiculous limitations, merely for mentioning God in their work or questioning his existence.
      Interesting that that this persecution and censorship came from supposedly loving, tolerant Christians. Reminds me of death threats and persecution from other supposed "religions of peace" against even mentioning or creating images of their god. People are so easily misled and formulate their idiotic and ridiculous forms of fanaticism through ignorance, prejudice and insecurity. Kate may have regrets over not calling the song its original title but in that era, in her position, she made the right call. Perhaps not artistically, but from a pragmatic and practical sense, calling "Running Up That Hill - (subscript - A Deal With God) was likely the right call.

    Kate its ONLY under rated on the US, in UK was a national treasure, the US always prefer a more poppy/easier artist, like madonna or something like that instead of something more elaborated like kates records, and their evolution, maybe "hounds of love" shows the best of both words, catchy songs, but with the music exploration that kate seached since "never for ever" (the records B side was a conceptual work for example) if the stranger things helps for a younger generation to know and reach the bush body of work, will be great, but kates work its always there, and there will be ...

    I'm shocked she loved Prince. All of her albums...even the early ones were dominated by an almost obsessiveness for perfection. Prince's early albums sounded like, "Oh well, that's good enough." Except for his singles. Kate was a studio wizard and she explored. I can certainly understand Peter Gabriel etc. as influences. Anyway, I loved her B sided as much as her albums. Her mysteriousness and her thrushing vocals that entranced listeners held onto and expanded her childhood and adult dreams and touched all of us who took the time to listen to her. Her videos-yes another whose timing with the media was heaven sent-put a stamp on her personality like no other. And touches any of today's youth who are fortunate enough to come across her work.

    So glad all of the young'uns are getting exposed to the wonder and magic that is Kate Bush through Stranger Things. It's funny, so many artists have actually charted with covers and or samples of "Running Up That Hill" over the past decade or two, yet the song charts again in 2022 from a TV series. A percentage of those kids who heard her on ST will actually buy one of her albums and listen to it. A smaller percentage will then buy that second, then third album. A smaller percentage will become obsessed with her artistic vision as tens of millions around the world have become and will then be Kate Bush fanatics for life. Welcome.
