Bought the Burton set and they look Amazing. One thing that really popped out that I never noticed before is that Joker’s suit in the joy buzzer scene is actually pinstriped and not a solid purple. I did find the skin tones a little over saturated at times in the first movie though.

ME: "Damn, Batman, why so blue... is it 'cause your parents died"?
BATMAN: "No. It's just me in another My Moonization comparison video". 😔
Man, I'm watching this 4K 30th Anniversary edition right now and, guess what, no blue tint!
I'm sure ol' Moonie will ask if I have the "new version"... answer is yes(what other 4K version is there?). Some might also tell me me that my TV isn't "calibrated" properly, and try to make me feel uncool because I don't have a billion dollar entertainment set-up. But, hey, at least my set-up makes the movie look like it actually takes place in Gotham and not Tealtown, USA. 😉
Either way, I don't think people should put too much stock into these kinds of comparison videos, as everyone's displays are different and a movie image can't be judged on one persons opinion alone. This is not THE definitive take on the 4K quality of this movie, people. Sad, because videos like this will probably detour some people from buying this otherwise AMAZING movie with an AMAZING 4K transfer. At any rate, judge for yourself consumers.
If it means anything to anyone, I wholeheartedly recommend this version for any fan that's on the fence as far as the quality is concerned. Plus, if your display shows up "too blue" I'm sure it can be adjusted, somehow. 🤷🏼‍♂️

    • @NovembersEnd
      @NovembersEnd 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @Nolberto Cales, no problem.
I found no problematic issues with the color on my set-up. But, it could just be an issue with certain systems and how they're calibrated. It should always be determined through the eyes of the beholder. Like I said, I thought these remasters looked great... to each their own, I guess.
I sure hope you are able to enjoy them as I did. If not, then I give you full permission to hunt me down and beat your Amazon refund outta me! 🤣👍

From my recollection, this version is definitely closer to what I saw in the theaters during a mid-2000s screening I saw at an older theater. Before they closed down, the last few months, they did screenings for a ton of movies using older prints they still had. This movie was a tad faded, and had a few areas where it was starting to turn a bit pink (film breaking down due to age), but there was definitely a blue tint on the night scenes that I noticed wasn't there when I got the BD release. I will say though, this release seems to amplify it a bit, and it's likely due to the HDR mastering.

It was tough for me to nail down a decision about which is better.
Some shots got warmer in 4K while others got a cold greenish look to them.
Take 3:06 and 3:31 for instance.
In these shots, the color saturation is too high on the 4k release. These people are more orange than the president.
Then look at 3:55 where it looks like the color is dialed down a bit on Michael Keaton's face from what it was on the 2013 Blu Ray.
At 4:08 there seems to be a green tint added to the frames. I don't like it.
At 4:39, Joker's face gets a cold greenish tint in 4k while at 4:54 the shot of Bruce training gets warmer colors in the 4k.
Then there's the shot of the Batwing with the moon in the background at 7:58 wherein I think the 4k shot is better in every way.
Ultimately I like the higher resolution frames of the 4k but the changes in color break it for me.
I'd use the 2013 Blu Ray as my main, but I wouldn't look down on anyone who differs.

4:16 the way the teal tint makes the neon-light glow HURTS my eyes literally.
That's in every modern movie with this bronze/orange/teal/silvery look.
It's just like black and white, but instead with teal/orange.
It literally hurts my eyes and is extremely exhausting to look at.
The human eyes is VERY well adjusted to differ from face/skin tones and backgrounds.
Those f*cking Hollywood regradings don't need to push every dam movie in to this color spectrum. But i guess people are SO adjusted to it, they don't even realize it. Even worse, they think it does look cheap if not possesing such color-grading.
Modern Bond movies are some of the worst. I look at the screen and i literally can't see shit.
It feels like being blind. The whole Bond movies are just GOLD/BLACK and otherwise TEAL/BLACK...
edit* The "new" Star Wars movies where some of the best candidates to bring back natural colors and remind people of them, i'm sure most people would have loved it, but NO, they HAD to get this color-grading on. I'm sure the director can't even decide of what happens to the final product, it's the producers and i'm sure it sucks for most directors.
(The movies are absolute shit anyway)

Blu-ray is the better choice for me and is true to the original… darker tones exaggerated sounds…with slightly better pixels without changing the color of the movie winner: Blu-ray edition

I like the 2013 better its how I remembered it watching it on VHS that over color grading can ruin it in some scenes. Same problem with the Matrix they are using this over saturated green for the newer blu ray release, Thank God , I have the original DVD which has no color grading

4k version looks awful. The blue filter look stinks like someone has their RGB levels badly adjusted the whole time. Also, skin tones look horribly unnatural in the 4k. Hate what they have done to my favorite movie, I'd rather watch my old laserdisc copy over this new 4k version.

  • @T_Black_Lodge

Your comparison looks NOTHING like the colors actual 4K disc. What kind of SDR conversion are you using? It’s giving everything a terrible teal overcast that just shouldn’t be there.

Whoever was in charge of the 4K color grade should've been fired. The teal / blue is so heavily offensive I don't know how it was ever approved. I'm sure Tim Burton wouldn't have. Awful awful. If a new 4K is released I'm going to throw this into a nice orange / red fire.

4k looks terrible. I think most of the comments are from people that just want to have something that says 4k, but really doesn't make a difference in fidelity. The color grading looks awful. It's like the people behind making the 4K edition never heard of going back to take a look at the color grading of the original film. That's what 4K transfers should be, a faithful reproduction of the original theatrical release source material. Even if the negatives turned to dust, there are plenty of still from the film that was distributed in various forms. They just said, make it have the modern color grading and applied it to the entire movie and called it a day. This was definitely not done scene by scene. As for the sound, at the very least they should have given the option of having the one that they had on the Blu-ray version. They didn't have anything to do other than timing and adding it as an additional track. This was a lost opportunity.

I don't understand why everything is crying about the new color grade its more true to the original theatrical release they only brighten up Batman 1989 & Batman Returns for the VHS & Lazerdisc release since the crt tvs back then wouldn't work well with the original darker look. The dvd release and 2009 Blu-Ray just followed suit with the VHS & Lazerdisc brighter version. I do agree they should of kept the original audio but other then that i love the new Blu-Ray HDR look to Batman 1989 & Batman Returns basically how those movies were intended to look like originally
