- My old e39 winter beater starts to be bit too rusty and I don't have time to fix all that rust properly. So I have been looking for rust free and cheap BMW to replace that. And now I finally found it and of course it's broken. In this video I try to figure out what has gone wrong in it.

Looks like you are completely ignoring m57 engine on your channel :) why is it so? It seems like they are quite popular in Finland despite the higher tax. You don't like diesels or you find m57 not reliable enough?
I just don't like diesels. Those sound horrible, those smell horrible, and the powercurve/band of diesels is just crap. Also tuning those to actually make some decent power and not just torque that breaks everything, is really difficult. I don't like those at all. M57 indeed is really populer here and it's great engine. But I don't want one. Diesels are good for tractors, trucks etc. heavy equipment. But I don't like having diesel car.
Hey pazi! for the plastic trim try using a 50/50 mix of boiled lindseed oil and paint thinner, it makes plastics come back better than any stuff I've bought off the shelf. and its definitely the cheapest
Those kind of tricks wont really last for long time. I'm going to just paint that flat black, because that has worked me for +10 years in my e36.

@@pazi88 I used some cheap ceramic coating from aliexpress, it kept the plastics black for two years then I sold the car

you would think that it would make sense to keep the oil light illuminated when the sensor is disconnected so you know something is wrong. Thats very dumb from BMW
Well yeah. But on the other hand, the very first thing you should do in the car when you turn on ignition, is to check that all the warning lights work as they should.
The aluminum piece under the engine is called for a stiffening plate in English. They seem to have left out a webasto too on a gasoline models. Those mirrors are nice, I had to buy them afterwards, not so cheap :p When I checked price of new ones from Bmwparts with a mirror lenses, it would have been like 1600+ e a set so had to get those from salvage yards. And still those were pretty expensive. In Finland one used mirror with a lense is like 200-300e. I was so surprised when I had only experiences of E39/E34 mirror prices so far :D

No tarkotin lähinnä pidon osalta. Runkovaurioista en oo itte kuullu.
Tuo 5g jos siis meinaat 722.6 niin on aika kestäväkin laatikko jos vertaa uudempaan 7g laatikkoon.

@@MJPilotehidashan se on mutta kestävä, ei se 7g ny mikään heikko ole mutta ei läheskään niin kestävä kun 5g laatikko, etenkin kun on isommalla diesel koneella joku painavempi auto kaupunki käytössä. Pari menny hajalle väännön takia kun se vetää isolla vaihteella ja pienillä kierroksilla.

@@pazi88 first transmission went into limp mode because of worn valve body in auto trans so I had to replace trans, then engine overheated because of plastic coolant pipes and i had to rebuild, door handle carriers failed x2, main window switch failed, then the spines on front prop shaft stripped out and left me stranded. all within a few years. There were other smaller things as well but it left me not wanting to own my x5 any more.
@@maxlagewaard8959 Yeah the shitty GM transmission and the prop shaft splines are the weak points of these cars. But I'm going to deal with those later when the winter is over. Probably going to do manual swap and fix the prop shaft as preventive maintenance while doing that.
@@pazi88 Manual swap would be nice for one of these cars. m54b30 feels a bit ordinary on the automatic box with the weight of the x5.

I think the m54 is fine in these. It's the shitty GM trans that ruins everything.
@@pazi88 even the manual wasnt that much special my friend had this combo and switched to 160kw m57 😁 you will of course see how it will work for you
@@TheCZpyro Yeah it wont be fast by any means because it's so heavy pig. But during winter, it's so slippery that higher hp/torque numbers are just waste. Even my current e39 with that tuned m52tu breaks tires loose with almost every gear 😅
@@pazi88 that is of course truth you can do some donuts in the m57 x5 relatively easy 🤣 he only changed because of the consumption/power ratio and because he wanted to tow with it 😁

@@pazi88 Kunhan vitsailin. Ilman muuta kannattaa ottaa alakerta auki ja katsoa laakerit kuntoon. Noista 3 litraisista on mennyt kk laakereita runsaasti eikä laakeriremppaa kannatakkaan lykätä.
@@Bemu_Expert Joo ei kannata ei. Korjaa nyt kuntoon, niin pitäs olla pitkäksi aikaa moottoria. Jos nyt tuo on ees semmosessa iskussa, et kannattaa edes korjata vs. ostaa vaan oletettavasti ehjän tilalle
