I had Poa Annua growing before Thanksgiving lol. I still had some Nutsedge that I used around Thanksgiving. It does take a long time, but Poa is pretty much dead now.
The timing on Poa germinating depends on soil temp and moisture, not Dec or Jan as "Doc" say. It depends on where u live. UT has an emergence model that shows Poa-annua germinates around 55° soil temp for 5 days with soil moisture. Could be September, could be December. Check out he UT Turf page. They have much more info on this subject.
Doc, can you give me some advice please? Creeping Charlie came creeping in two years ago ..... in the bermuda, in the garden beds....and now it is exploding! Last February I spent hours digging it up by hand and we'll, I see it come back all over again right now....I am zone 8, Marietta GA. ----Keep on keepin' on, Dude. Thank you for all you share!
Doc, Poa has been popping up in my Bermuda since December I have sprayed it with the hose end Spectracide little to no effect thus far. I do have a bag of The Andersons 18-0-8 +0.38 Barricade. I also think I have a partial bag of Dimension left along with some Celsius & Certainty. Plans were to throw out Barricade before 2/15/25 but pending surgery may prevent that. Last application was 10/18/24. Your recommendation?
Certainty for Poa is your best bet post, although it doesn't work great. Do it on a warm day. Above 55. Use a surfactant. Save the Celsius for something else. Do the barricade at normal pre em time, then the dimension as a follow up or split app. Or save that for fall as your fall pre. Spectracide is a brand name. You need to know the active ingredient. Plus, read the label. That will tell everything you need to know.
How often should you be applying pre-emergents? I threw down early Nov here in central fl, starting to see hawkweeds pop up and some clover. Can I apply again?
I just about eliminated all my poanna by bagging the seed heads in the spring bagged probably up to early summer. Press on in the good work sir 👍
Bracing & prepping for this cold snap.
Thanks for the video Doc. Happy new year.
Happy new year. I have poa everywhere on the sides of my home
3:35 In your guide it says the Pre-Emergent will stop weeds before they emerge.
Happy New year Doc to you and your family ❤
Thanks - same to you.
Happy New Year from South Carolina. A fire pit would look nice in front of the cabin.
There is one.

Doc, what is the best way to treat Nostoc? Hoping this year to fill those bare spots it thrives in with my Bermuda
On Long Island grass is still green as the summer days should I put down sometime for poa now ?
The Pre emergent you’re speaking about is just for rye grass? Not Bermuda? Thanks
Yes for Bermuda
@ oh ok, I didn’t know we could put down pre-emergent on Bermuda this early here in South Carolina
I remember when you could get fertilizer in 200 lb. bags.
Are you planning to get a rooster so you can farm some chickens for the meat?
No.... just the girls
LOL Doc. You have a lot of stalkers 😂😂😂😂😂!!!!!
Can you use a post emergent on the first year of new Bermuda grass sod?
Yes, but very carefully. Read the directions and it should cover new seed / sod
Thanks Doc, I really appreciate you getting back to me.

Hawksbeard* and dandelion
Generally we do two per year. Mostly in the late winter / early spring.
