About ten years ago, when I was a volunteer Firefighter, we had a firehouse tradition that every Rescue Qualified Station Member would add one song to a mix CD that we would play on the Heavy Rescue Squad's (HRS) CD player. Since we had specialized vehicle extrication equipment and unique rescue tools that standard fire trucks wouldn't have on their trucks, it wouldn't be unusual for the Rescue Squad to drive long distances (20 to 30 miles) while responding to emergency calls. So, to help pass the time or get us pumped up to operate the tools, we would listen to those songs as loud as we could, turning the volume down when we needed to listen to dispatch or command.
Everyone picked your typical firefighter songs like "Kenny Loggins Danger Zone" or "C'mon C'mon by The Von Bondies." When it was my turn to choose, I picked the original version of this song. The look on everybody's faces and concerns about my mental state when they first heard this song was absolutely priceless. One of the younger guys in the group, who was quite religious and had a somewhat sheltered life before joining the Fire Department, exclaimed the track I'd picked was for "devil worshipers." But I had seniority over everyone, so they were "forced" to give the song a chance.
It wasn't long until we had a rough stretch of almost non-stop calls for about three days in a row (we rotated the two-person crews whenever we could) for them to warm up to this song and the genre. Eventually, it became everybody's favorite or 2nd favorite track.
Ah, good times.
Im usually disappointed in Necrophagist covers, not this time. Really nice to hear a professional quality full cover in a different tuning.

What a sick cover - impeccable production and playing as always. Also, it goes to show how ahead of their time Necrophagist was, this song was released in 99 and the composition still sounds modern af.

At 3:36 did you do something different with the harmonizing line on the solo? It sounds different but I can't tell if it's because of how it was played or just the 20+ year difference in recording ability.
I believe the tuning is lower and there’s some different phrasings in the solo
@@msmachine7253 that makes sense. The difference I hear is about the size of the difference I would expect from a tuning shift now that you say it.
