I'm a Catholic and my opinion is that usury is a deeply perfidious practice. Usury has been an unmitigated disaster for the economy, socially its negative impacts are practically universal. It effects everything. It allows a small group of individuals to synthetically decouple labour from value, thus driving down labour wages. Money, decoupled from labour, is now able to coagulate and move up stream into the coffers of the money lenders. There should not be a way to generate new money without value creation, it is inherently wrong as it undermines other market participants. This is in my opinion an abomination, a sin that cries out to heaven for vengeance and it cannot last. One cannot ignore the natural law indefinitely as the 'west' (as they call themselves) has done. Please continue to push this on christians, it will improve all of our lives.

The major difference between Islam and Christianity/Jews is that we accept that god knows better. Even if the whole world is mocking us. we don't pick and choose what we like from the scriptures. I find the most convincing analogy you use, as best as I understand, is that the wealth of the world is finite. Industry is backed on work; and the output of said work behaves like a linear function.
However, when we introduce interest and these perverted financial products, we decouple the output of work from money.
Interest grows faster than a linear function, any basic understanding of numeracy can see the velocity of an exponential function.
And as interest persist, work is devalued as it’s not tethered to money anymore. And through this action, chaos will erupt as poverty does.
It’s nothing but exploitation. It’s warfare and those suffering run into circumstances no one should imagine.
    May Allah swt protect us.

@@samuraijosh1595 Gladly--though of course the real answer is, God allowed us to do it. But as for details (and apologies in advance if I'm oversharing): we rented for 8 years (and have been blessed with employment, though mostly part-time and with some stints of unemployment, and also were blessed with low rent in pre-inflation Rochester, NY), we homeschool our kids, have been blessed with good health (and free Medicaid due to our relatively low income and household size), have been blessed with a used car that has been miraculously reliable for 8 years, and so through God's grace were able to save up and buy a house with cash. It was a "fixer-upper" in a fairly poor neighborhood (so trusting in God and not being prejudiced was key: most people from my background are afraid to live here, yet it really is on the whole very nice: not necessarily safe for kids to walk around, but what place is?, and our policy is to be helicopter parents anyway, especially since we have girls), and took over a year of more saving and lots of DIY work to get it in good shape, but we wouldn't want to live anywhere else, alhumdulillah! Anyway, of course everyone's situation is different (and I forgot to mention that my dad helped us with a small loan), and we are both very privileged in terms of education and family background (which might help explain why we don't need to work full-time: our stints as adjunct professors are much more remunerative than most jobs, and allow us the free time to homeschool); but purely anecdotally, on the basis of my own personal experience, it is not only possible but life-saving to avoid interest. As always it is a matter of forming a will to do something because it is the right thing; I believe God blesses such efforts.

@@AlmirColanHe's far from genuine. He thinks of himself as a Prophet and claims he gets revelation in his dream!
When he met Mohammed Hijab in 2022 he refused to answer the simple question of "Do you believe in God?"
He also works for Daily Wire, called for the annihilation of Palestinians, and actively promotes zionism!
So, No! He's Not a genuine person at all!

It's frankly shameful for these "scholars" to laugh at their own Scripture, call people who actually follow it -- Muslims -- extreme. And then not have any Muslim scholar on that panel.
I suspect that a Muslim scholar sitting on that table will have given them answers about their own religion that they are completely ignorant of. And frankly embarrass them.

Jazakallah Khair for this great video.
Its so important for people to realize that investments and loans are independent and often contesting concepts. Taking a loan out means exactly what is described here: 8:15.
You don’t have the capital or resources to purchase or fund so you BORROW from a lender.
Putting the money you BORROWED toward an investment such as a house is foolish because over the course of paying back that loan, you wind up paying potentially hundreds of thousands beyond the purchase price of the house. Because of that, the seller tries to lock-in those interest payments into the sale price when the house is relisted for sale. Everyone does this AND boom, condos are suddenly $1 million and rising. What you get at the end is still JUST A HOUSE but it’s cost keeps rising because the people who bought it borrowed money to buy it.
What they’re discussing about countries borrowing has all the same problems. Borrowing from the future starves the future.

The example of those who were entrusted with the Torah and then did not take it on (i.e., neglected their responsibility towards it by not putting its teachings into practice) is like that of a donkey who carries volumes [of books] (But does not benefit from their contents). Wretched is the example of the people who deny the signs of Allāh. And Allāh does not guide the wrongdoing people. (62:5)

You failed to recognise and condemn his referring to Muslims as Muhammedan, that's the sly slur, quiet hate you shouldn't ignore.
It should be pointed out, and condemned at each opportunity. It's central to altering the Muslim identity from Muslim to a Muhammadan.
Ignore it at your own peril.

Christian kingdoms and empires all banned usury from the start until the end of the Middle Ages, where they started to work around it by making Jews handle interest-based banking hands-on, while they themselves technically didnt get their hands dirty, even though they were very much participating in it and building it into their system. Eventually they straight-up legalized interest for everyone
In Jewish Talmudic law, Jews are not allowed to engage in usury with other Jews, but theyre allowed to lend interest-based loans to non-Jews
There have been many people and societies throughout history that opposed usury, some of the ancient Greek philosophers for example

17:37 gaslighting. He knows very well banks extract wealth (not money but wealth), even in write-offs (secured, collateralised). And the excessive interest charged to unsecured debt is _not_ "lost" across a *category* .
None of them addressed the fact that currency itself is issued at interest, therefore it's impossible to avoid.

This was a standard concept in the ancient (pre Roman) world. It was permissible to charge interest on commercial loans. However it was forbidden for private loans. There was also the concept of debt forgiveness, the Jubilee in the Jewish tradition. This was done by Kings for very practical reasons.
