Before & After the Union of the Emirates, How?

  • Established in 1971, the United Arab Emirates is a relatively young Arab country that has experienced a huge surge in prosperity in recent years. Guided by wise leadership, the economic boom has fostered a stable, cosmopolitan society that has successfully integrated traditional Islamic values into a determined development programme, enabling the country to take its place amongst the emerging nations of the world.
    Physically, the UAE is a land of contrasts: massive sand-dunes, fertile palm-filled oases, vast stretches of mesmerising desert, low-lying coastal plains, sandy beaches, hundreds of natural islands, and rugged rocky mountains are just some of the dramatic landscapes encountered in its territory.
    Politically, the UAE is a federation of seven emirates (Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, Umm al-Qaiwain, Ra's al-Khaimah and Fujairah) with a constitutionally-based political system that is a unique blend of the traditional and modern. Abu Dhabi City is the capital of the UAE and the seat of the federal government. HH Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler of Abu Dhabi, is the current President of the UAE and Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Ruler of Dubai, is Vice President and Prime Minister.
    The Supreme Council, made up of the hereditary rulers of the seven emirates, is the top policy-making body in the state, whilst a Council or Cabinet of ministers, four of whom are women, acts as the executive authority for the federation. The UAE's parliament, the Federal National Council, a section of which is indirectly elected and nine of whose members are women, has both a legislative and supervisory role. In addition, each of the seven emirates has its own local government, the complexity of which differs according to the size and population of individual emirates.
    Although a comparatively young nation, the UAE has taken its place on the world stage, guided by a principled foreign policy that is based on support for and engagement with international institutions such as the United Nations.
    When the federation was formed in 1971, the UAE had little or no physical infrastructure, health care or educational facilities, industry was non-existent and most of the country's scant population lived in the desert or in the foothills of the mountains. It has come a long way since then: rapid urbanisation has been the norm (over 80 per cent of the country's residents live in major towns and cities) and the UAE's infrastructure is world-class.
    Rich natural resources in the form of oil, which was first exported in the 1960s, has enabled much of this prosperity: today, the UAE boasts a vibrant free economy and successful efforts have been made to diversify away from dependence on oil and gas exports. So much so that a solid industrial base has been created together with a very strong services sector, enabling the country to meet the challenges and opportunities of the new era.

    As a westerner, specifically and American and a Christian I cannot fathom why I should be so enamored by your beautiful country as if I long to return to a home I never knew. Prior to 9/11 I had a naiive view of the muslim world. I thought that most of the countries there, though different in religion, were friendly. Since I have been very pessimistic, then I discovered Dubai and the UAE! What a shining example of what can be done and how muslim and westerner can work in harmony!

    Last time I went to Abu Dhabi was 10 years ago. It was like a dream. Congratulations to your Sheikhs for investing in the country, not just filling their pockets like many politicians do. My country, Romania, also has a lot of oil, but due to corruption we couldn't develop as much as we could have done. I am going again this year. I can't wait!

      Romania has over 20 million population with a lot less oil than UAE. UAE has less than a million local population with LOTS of oil discovered by the foreigners. In Romania you can criticize your government in public and you'll be ok. UAE nationals don't have this right - they can only nod and smile in agreement. Did you know that people get jailed there for a few critical comments on the government written on Twitter?

      The United States launched a war on Iraq because the President of Iraq did not agree to the conditions for giving oil to the United States. But America desperately needs oil, so it launched a war on Iraq under the pretext of terrorism to take the seas of oil under Iraq. Indeed, the United States took oil and is still taking all oil resources from Iraq and now Iraq has become a poor country due to the greed of the United States and its love for oil But the UAE has agreed to give oil to the United States, and that is why the states have not launched war on them, but also helped them build their country in exchange for millions of barrels of oil. Note that Iraq has an amount of oil equivalent to ten times the amount of oil in the Emirates.

    • @diverge1337
      @diverge1337 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      And let's not forget what happened in Syria. The United States did not launch a war against Syria, but it created an army called "ISIS" and the states deployed their forces throughout Syria to take their own oil-rich inner wealth on the pretext of eliminating terrorism. Also, the states controlled many crude oil fields in Syria. Syria can become better than the UAE if the states do not exist.

    • @jibreellana

      Heu Devil..you're wrong..Iraq oil reserves aren't 10 times of UAE. Iraq has ~150 billion bbl while UAE has ~100.

The United States will not put its soldiers on the ground unless there is a large amount of oil in Syria Everyone believes that Syria has a small amount of oil. We Gulf Countries love our monarchs, like my country Kuwait's Amir Sheikh Sabah, besides we are terrible at democracy in Kuwait! We cant even elect a good Parliament, the Parliament is filled with liars that want to kick out Government Ministers who did nothing wrong. The Amir made a wise desicion kicking out the last Parliament, but this one is much worse. Women have rights as men in Kuwait like the UAE aswell and I agree with you saying we dont have to be a replica of another culture
