I remember getting Astroneer about 1.5 years ago. I was really looking for a game that was interesting and looking around the steam shop/reddit.
I stumbled across this little game that had absolutely beautiful music and looked interesting enough. Art really catches me when it comes to a game and the art style and music drew me in (plus the whole theme of the game).
So I buy it naturally, i see its in beta/pre launch. I know a lot of those games never see a release date but that was fine by me. I boot up this pretty little game and man i just get HOOKED i mean sucked in immediately and i ended up logging 88 hours that week in Astroneer. I couldn't believe it, really only felt like 20 hours but alas i felt i did all I could. But the development team consistently would pump out updates so i'd start a new game to see what was changed and log some more hours. I easily put in over 100 hours at this point.
Astroneer was a pretty little game that really made me feel good as i played it, I hadn't had a game do that in a long time so it was refreshing. Seeing an official release date makes me so utterly happy, and the journey there was great. Whether the developers know it or not their game brought joy to my soull and I will always be grateful for that experience, and remember it.
I doubt they or anyone else will ever read this, but I felt the need to share anyways. If you read this far, I hope you had as much fun as I did.
EDIT: Of course when the official release comes, i plan to easily put in another 200 hours.

wow... Astroneer has come such a long way. I started playing late 2016/early 2017. I can still remember the old module system, and who doesn't remember the old rover physics? You'd hit the tiniest pebble and practically go into orbit. I remember the introduction of the soil extractor and how overpowered I thought it was back then. I remember farming research nodes on exotic trying to finally unlock the medium storage (never did) :(. I also remember the transition to the new research system, and how it felt GREAT to actually be able to choose what to get. And recently with the crafting update and how I was so excited to see all these new shinies! And now, Im looking forward to the release Astroneer and what will come with it, as well as what will be in store for the future. I also applaud System Era for making the game great as they did, more focused on making the game great and fixing bugs rather than being fixated in making money. And I realize that any delay in a release is for good, as to fix any last-minute bugs or make any last-minute game balances. So through all of this, we all still love the game and can't wait for more. We love you System Era, for everything y'all've done (y'all've= you all have)( go Texas!). So merry Christmas and a happy New Year/release!

Every space game created since just feels like someone played Astroneer and wanted to make it more complex (not a dig on Astroneer). I’ve loved it. I always keep thinking about Astroneer. Even today, as I play Starfield that was just released yesterday, I look back on Astroneer as the pioneer for these incredible space games that I love so much. I will always have a special place in my heart for Astroneer. The music, the atmosphere, the mechanics. Especially the beauty of the simplistic and artistic style of the landscape. It was like nothing else I had ever played prior and it will always be an original. Bought it in early 2015 and regularly came back once a year or more to see what the newest updates or changes were and it was like experiencing a new games several times over. It stays downloaded in my SSD for anytime I wanna go back (after waiting for any potential updates lol). Thank you guys for this beauty.

This is absolutely beautiful. The amount of time and effort put into this project must have been astronomical. I’m just sitting here imagining all the start-up crashes, broken rendering, and just generally weird stuff that you must have encountered during the creation of it, and then frustratingly, seemingly endlessly, attempting to fix it, then the feeling of accomplishment after the matter, watching the player model not glitch out, the animations and collision physics working, then finally... updating like 0.5% of what you currently had planned, only to start that process all over again, making a rover, a new type of platform connector, or a start button that doesn’t crash the game, maybe finding out that the rest of the code has decided to not work consistently anymore, or being told by someone that the tall spaceman’s character model is big enough to clip through small spaces into the floor, and having to completely redesign it, and through all that struggle, all the hard work and sleepless nights of coding, and all the support from a million fans and too many TH-camrs to count, just how far you’ve come, just how much it’s been, just how long you’ve been doing this, and I’m wondering how you feel about it - accomplished? Anxious? Maybe you miss all that. Maybe you want it back. Maybe you love the fact that it’s almost out. I definitely can’t share a similar experience I had with you. I can’t say I’ve ever had anything even close to this. I only heard about this around 2 years ago, on a TH-cam video, and I haven’t been following it since then, I only recently got back into the game myself, but it has been a journey for me nonetheless, and I can only imagine how much of a journey it’s been for you -- actually, I take that back. I can’t imagine how much of a journey it’s been for you. But anyway, I just want to say, this project is absolutely beautiful. The number of amazing things I’ve experienced in this game (and only on the first planet) is extremely high and still climbing. I can’t express the feeling I had when I saw the 1.0 trailer, and I’m sure playing the game will only be even more fantastic. As I watched this video I realized what this project is: a work of art. The world this game creates is utterly beautiful from the mountains to the caverns to the sky, stars, the adorable sound effects in the menu screens, the playful, inspiring music, all the possibility, and everything else. This game is wonderful and I am so happy that I have followed it through for the time that I have. System Era, thank you so much for the experience.
P.S. somehow I didn’t find myself crying... I think I need either medical attention or an onion. Also, someone spread the word about this game. I haven’t seen anything about it besides from system era at all yet. It’s seriously important to me that this game gets the attention that it deserves. I love this game and I wouldn’t let it release silently for the world.

I like that a development group can look at where they started and all the process that they went through. I think that’s a must for a studio to grow! Most big games never learn from old issues in games.

My brother stopped playing quite soon after we got it and it became so dull for me to play by myself.. A year or two passes and 2 of my friends actually like the game! I progress through the game quite quickly checking out all the cool stuff system era added and certain things they removed *Cough Cough* fuel condenser *Cough Cough*. I actually never saw the ending until 2 years ago but of course got all achievement literally the day after lol. Astroneer is such a cool game because of its potential in gameplay and social interactions, I love to play it with friends because of all the exploring, building, and upgrading there is! I got this game for its full price as a Christmas present to myself back in 2016.
I loved every hour spent. Even when we had flying cars long before we had properly driving ones. Even when once stranded next to the spaceship and lost there was no way to build a new base or find a way to the old one, so the save file was ruined unless you find a flying chair, even when I, used to the old system being imperfect, first realized that even the items on the sides and in the 3D printer of the backpack were lost upon death too... It was all worth it.
I loved flying in a chair. I loved that all you needed to join someone else's game was to be friends with them, and I found a lot of friends by just friending Astroneer streamers. I loved and hated that you can load a spaceship full of expensive parts and materials and steal it, and then disconnect from the game, nobody having any possibility of recovering the resources.
Thank you, System Era. Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays and happy 2 year anniversary.
Please continue on with the improvements.
