I was visiting Melbourne and regional Victoria in January of this year, am currently living in the US. I am amazed at the engineering and awesome planning of the rail system in the Melbourne metro area, and especially how the dual gauge system is managed, both with parallel and combined trackage. Then I found this channel- and I can’t get enough of it. Thanks for the awesome rides that you take us on- having lived in Victoria many years ago, I can relate to some of the geography just enough to know where the various areas are that you drive through. Keep up the great work! A question- do the V-Line passenger trains from Seymour to Southern Cross take the same route as you did (but on the broad gauge) from Broadmeadows to Sunshine? I saw some metro tracks joining from your right side as you approached Broadmeadows and not sure if they are used for country V-Line passenger trains to Southern Cross. Thanks again!
The broad gauge Seymour trains don't take the same route as the standard gauge. They run along the suburban lines via Essendon and in to Southern Cross. Very happy you are enjoying the videos. One day I want to get back over to the US and see if I can get some views over there. 👍😀
While I haven't lived in Broady for a very many years, I've walked all my dogs many many times under the Jacana trestle. Now I've taken a ride on it, that was a real treat.
@@martyn6792 5'3" is the original Victorian gauge. Two thirds of the state is still broad gauge. The only vline passenger service on standard gauge (4'8.5") is the Albury service. Most of the types of trains, freight and passenger run on both gauges 👍😀
Nice ride,at 12.30 of the video, even the big tunnel isn't spared the mindless trivel these twerps spray on everything, they're get a rude shock if a big freight train roared through the tunnel
Love the videos very enjoyable to see vic's rail system I am in nsw but just a question what is that constant ticking in the background on this loco it sounds like a very loud hour meter.
Nice one looks like a fun day from Melbourne to Broadmeadows and even had time to set up the go pro
It was a good day 👍😀

Great video Col, good to see some 501 action again. Any news on the AN's fate that are all parked back behind Dynon?
No news on the AN's. Stored pending a decision at some stage I guess. 👍😀
Hopefully not a visit from SIMS Metal mate!
@@macka8884 fingers crossed 🤞 👍😀

Very happy you enjoyed the ride over the trestle. 👍😀
amazing video and I spot me and a few friends at middle footscray
👋👋 waves at you at middle footscray 👍😀
awesome
Very happy you enjoyed the ride 👍 😀
Why did you have to go through Dynon?
This is on the standard gauge and that is the route the standard gauge takes to get to Southern Cross. 👍😀
19:42 work on the (delayed) Airport Rail Link
👍😀
Assume you have dual gauge track, also what is your catenary voltage as insulators don't look big enough for 25kv
We have dual gauge track. Overhead voltage is 1500v dc. It dates back to original electrification around 1919. 👍😀
@@driver667 what are the gauges ? 4' 8.5" and slightly smaller ?
@@martyn6792 4' 8.5" and 5'3" 👍😀
@@driver667 what sort of stock / motive power runs on larger gauge ? Is there alot of it ?

Is it easier becoming vlien dirver. Metro or guard easier
We don't have guards 👍😀

They would get a shock. 😀 Mindless waste of time spraying all that drivel. Glad you enjoyed the video 👍😀
That C has a big nose!
🤣🤣 It looks like it from this view. 👍😀

That ticking is the older style hasler speed recorder in the cab. Glad you are enjoying the videos 👍😀
