- This week we decided to not pass notch point campground and actually see why its voted Queensland best free camp. Sadly it turned from Paradise to disaster for us.

Hey mate it might be a sneaky fix for you but if you screw a door stop rubber right where the dent it it will hide it but also look like it belongs there

Oh well, you have a dent, but the upside is, the door did not rip off!!!!!Could of been worse, check out the The feel good family, rolled their 79 land cruiser!!!
@@lynparsons6539 we not comparing ourselves to anyone else at all. Yes it could have been worse by loosing the door. We try and look after our stuff and the extent of getting the panel replaced is a pretty big job. At least we can still keep going
@@justvanningit I was thinking along the same lines with bump stop attached to a small stainless steel plate brushed finish say 2.5-3 mm thick 100 square countersunk screw from the back to hold the bumpstop, attach the plate to the van with TRex bond adhesive amazingly strong adhesive this is used to manufacture composite caravans , made in Belgium, Bunning, Major tiles sell it also.
Hope it can be repaired, I would even cover that dint in your van with a nice custom door stopper, prevents it getting damaged again if the door opens up again

Deryeck: at 20.09 you deposited your two bags of rubbish in the skip. Well done but you didn’t compress into the existing load so the lid was totally closed. It’s been left ajar for birds etc to access the bin. Sad to see!

Disaster no way. How experienced are you. The rough roads look pretty easy for an off road van.
Lucky you only got a dent, it could have been much worst . I don't know why some caravan manufacturers fit doors that open in this orientation? If the door opened the other way you it wouldn't of flung open a damaged your beast of a van.

Sorry to see damage to your pride and joy. I feel your pain. I am same same when it comes to damaging things like that. At least for now, could you perhaps sikalex a piece of black chequerplate over the damage. It might just look as if it was supposed to be there - i.e. - to stop the door banging back into the side of the van !!! Just a thought. Good luck with it all. Dave

A small piece of black powder coated checker plate will hide that dent and protect the side of the van if it ever happens again

I've had a similar thing happen on one of my vans with the door, now I get all my doors reversed do if they come unlatched vehicle movement and air flow keeps them closed mostly, I feel for you though
Great vid nothing quite like a adventure where in SA did you live Sue i haven't been there yet but my mum was born in Cape Town went to NZ at the end of the war i was born in NZ but became a Aussie last year that is a nasty hole in the van best fill with silicone before rain gets in

We had our van door come open and punched a hole through fibreglass wall. I glued a white nylon block over hole. now a door stop. you could do something similar. black nylon maybe.

Really enjoyed this episode and especially your segment Sue. Bugger about the door flying open but shit happens sometimes and you can get it fixed or maybe put something there so the door can't dent the main wall again. Upsetting for you both though.

another great video, this is real and true re on the road unlike others put up showing all great and trouble free. So sorry re the door and as stated in other comments so lucky the door did not rip off as that would have really stopped you and possibly been disastrous if there were others behind you when it happened. I am very particular with our little caravan so feel your pain but all is good, no one hurt, you are still out there living the dream, and parma and beer is a great fixer upper 👍 Have a great week and travel safe

Interested to hear your from Gonubie . We Camped at yellow sands and gonubie caravan site every year for about 10 years. Fished the river there too.

Thanks so much, it was a big day. The meal at the hotel saved us and we started fresh the next days. Doesn't happen often but now and then we find camps we just can't get into!

Wonder if the door latch screws worked loose on the cape roads.
Not sure but we have been making sure screws didn’t come loose
The bracket is enclosed by a plastic cover, definitely possible.
Stick a bit of black checker plate over it fixed.
Oh poop. That's a shame about the damage to your van. But hey....it can be fixed. Worse things happen. Onwards & upwards team. 😀

Sorry about your van but you know it was good to see some bad things happen not talking about the van but about the roads and not been able to do this and that as 99% of videos are all perfect and when you start travelling you think it is going to be perfect and when things don't work out you are more likely to turn around and go home so this is a great reality video. Thank you.

Definitely something we thought about but with sue working full time and myself working social media, we need somewhere comfortable and to be able to get out the elements. We have met people that do do it in a rooftop and I think it has its benefits and so does a caravan

I don't understand why they put suicide doors on caravans , poor design I say , you going to have to put an extra home made latch on door as back up

I’m at a loss to understand why you left such a great spot with a 10 percent chance of rain .
Have you been to notch point before ? The rain came a lot more than they predicted and we would have battled to get out there.
@@justvanningit No I haven’t been to notch point yet . It was hard to tell from your episode how difficult the track was ?you made 10percent sound like 90percent . I have just returned from Charlotte plains station which has a very weather dependent track in . I guess we all make decisions on our setup and playing weather man is hard at the best of times .
It’s got me buggered why the van mobs put the doors on that way. They come in left or right hinge.🤷♂️

Sorry for your damage. Complete design fault. Who would think of putting a door with a reverse swing. Take it back to them. There responsibility.
People need to take their rubbish home with them, i.e. 8min mark can on grass just in front of grazing cow.
Notch is my happy place, IMOA caravan doors should open the opposite way so that can't happen
