There more reasons to play till the end. At first, it's some sort of gentleman agreement. "If your opponent has a better run than let him/her have some fun". Of course, sometimes it feels useless to stick around, however it's a gentle and fine gesture. Further, I've at least 5-10% games won in a competitive environment, where I had 1 life point and I was desperate, though, I topdecked my mythic/rare or buildaround card and turned the game in my favor and succeeded.
I just naturally like all your videos since all the decks and play-by-play analysis provide such a huge value in learning new ways to make use of all the new cards and also deckbuilding and also turn by turn decisions... - but this time OMG, that last game was awesome. An epic showdown of constructed decks vying to maximize their thing. Excellent work from LVD as always, not only the deckbuilding (of course HUGELY important), but the play skill, the commentary and turn-by-turn commentary explaining the plays so people can learn, and also the superb editing in the videos making it a breeze and pleasure to watch. Sir, I take off my hat to you - well done, keep it up!
Insane last match. Starting at 41:29 the opponent had lethal with the line: Take Bloodchief's Thirst with Professor Onyx, kill one of the 2/2s and attack with the spiders. LegenVD would have been at 0.
Yeah, or even with Deadly Dispute after attacking sac the Eyetwitch and search any lesson to drain for 2 more. Opponent managed to lose the game vs a massive flood
This was the only moment in my long time watching youtube that a youtuber said once "Leave a like for ___" And I did it without hesitation. Amazing match, amazing content
That last game was seriously amazing to watch. It all rested on you getting showdown and him not drawing blood on the snow and I was on the edge of my seat when he was making that last ditch effort to find blood on the snow, and when he played onyx I was relieved for you man. Props to that guy for not conceding when he couldn’t find blood on the snow, I’m glad he let such an awesome game play out to the end.
I haven't been watching a lot of MTG lately but I tuned into this one because I know you wouldn't bait your viewership. I was not disappointed! Awesome as always LVD.
You bet I'm hitting the like button! That last game was pretty crazy, I applaud your ability of remaining calm and lucid even when the game goes so much off the rails.
Man that last game was something else lmao. Your white/red spirit deck from a while back got me into Magic, and this deck seems like real fun too! Great stuff! ^^
Man that last game was a real nailbiter=) and I always like your videos btw and have been promoting your channel on FB magic groups for a long time. Love your content and your soothing voice.Keep up the good work!!!!
Last match just got me spoiled. A one of a kind that makes me even happier for following your channel since the first contact. Thank you for the top quality work and effort, as always!
Yeah I appreciate you not baiting your viewership. This is definitely one of the best games I’ve seen. My favorite part is your reaction when you top decked showdown. You sound relieved, nervous, and excited like is this it or does the game of magic have another cruel trick up her sleeve lol
This is one of the most original Hallowed Haunting decks I've seen, (with exception to the meathook, LOL). I love the use of runes and runeforge champion for enchaments. I feel like there could be more removal enchantments like borrowed time or circle of confinement, but this seems to work pretty good!
Your uploads are always great to watch. What an insane last match, well done on winning it! Also I enjoy listening to your voice,it's very ASMR-y. Very chilled and relaxed. GG's.
You don't need to ask for likes because the content is good and the voice, soothing. I gotta tell you, the last game triggered all my anxiety shit. Had to hit the meds. Was like a HUGE relief when it ended and you've won. I kept thinking: "He has to turn this mono Black around. He's gotta win. He's gotta win. After all this sht, he's gotta win..." Thank you, again, for your content and passion.
Wow what a match that 4th one was! Deserves all the likes. That match had a narrative arc. Wow! Just WOW! Was expecting the MVP to be [[Showdown of the Skalds]] with something along the line of "Shows up right on time"/"Shows them what we've got". Need to re-watch that match. Deserving of MTG Top 5!
Runeforge Champion also searches your Graveyard. When you dig for more runes in the late game, it's a good idea to start picking them up from there so you are more likely to draw some later down the line.
A nonstop charge of ghosts flying out just to be chopped away by a flurry of meathooks and cleavers, ectoplasmic blood flying everywhere and dying the snow red. Finally our hero, inspired by the songs of old enters a Zen state and activates his ultimate technique: Final Ghostplosion 100%
I feel like runeforge crown could help you stay alive more often. Most decks dont have answers for equipment. It would help you further cantrip since it brings in runes and replaces itself it really wouldn't slow you down too much. Being able to equip the champion or a spirit and give it +2/1 haste and lifelink would seemingly make a big deal when playing around some of the sweepers.
That might even be better than what I was thinking, using just a cheap colourless equipment like leather armour to hold your runes instead of lands and be able to get their value
I like it, you can then pile runes onto the crown so every spirit is a couple of mana away from being a haste lifelinker deathtouch, which is great protection against sweepers
I believe in 21:17 it was possible to keep the spirits alive taking advantage of the Showdown counters: 1. Play second Showdown, Showdown's 2nd chapter and Hallowed Haunting trigger. 2. Order triggers so token is created first and put counter on the token. You have a 2/2 3. Play Meathook Massacre for 2, order triggers so token is created first and put counter in second spirit, you have two 3/3 4. Meathook Massacre ETB triggers, the spirits survive as 1/1.
#2 isn't possible as the Showdown trigger needs to target a creature as it's put on the stack, but it would fizzle as there are no valid targets on the board
As soon I as saw your opponent hover over their mascot exhibition after drawing I shouted “NO WAY” super loud. Pretty sure my neighbors heard. What an epic game!
Great video as always. With the rune champion etb shouldn't you always prioritize getting runes from your graveyard? So you leave more runes in the deck so you can chain them together, i don't think you got one from the graveyard at any point in the video, is there a reason? Or did you just forget?
Great point! And it adds quite a cool new tension to the game, because this makes you _want_ that at least some runes end in the graveyard. And as fast as possible!
The Rune package was missing a top end, this is perfect. Maybe a copy of Hallowed Haunting in Historic Auras could be a thing when you are missing bodies to put the Auras on.
Just ran into this deck with my Dimir Control Lantern deck. Thought it was pretty original. Then I see your video and realize my opponent just net decked it from you. He didn't play it as well as you. :)
I've a similar deck, but only white and black. I run both classes, cleric class to get runeforge champion back from the graveyard and the warlock class to dig through my deck to get what I need. I also run six board wipes, meathook, doomskar and invitation only(for those indestructibles).
At 20:55, is it not maybe better to purposefully trade inefficiently, sending the champion into the 4/3 and the spirit into the 3/2, so that you heal one more off the meathook? I'm sure it's not a very impactful play, but I wonder if there's a deeper reason I'm not seeing. Edit: just noticed that the mana wouldn't have worked out for playing Showdown at x=3 so maybe that's a good enough reason
The last game --- WOW!!! How are you able to stay focused when so many bad things happen to you in a game? That quality is what makes you a champion!! 🦀 🦀 🦀
Just put together something similair last night. I opted to go with blue instead of black for brine comber, gesitlight snare, and winged portent. stormchaser drake has been pretty decent to suit up as well, and Katilda is pretty good.
The competing Meathook Massacres were nerve wrecking, the fact that the order of triggers could be the difference between life and death (and it was!) was an additional factor always looming on the background. And opp probably could have won taking advantage of that, as other commenters pointed out.
The ordering is in LVD's favor on the opponent's turn though, so it's harder to take advantage. For instance when LVD was at 3 life, if he could've somehow pressured LVD into attacking with 3 creatures so he could chump with three, which all die, then it would've killed LVD - but I don't think that ever quite came up. And Bloodchief's Thirst is a Sorcery so it wouldn't have let him sacrifice a creature on LVD's turn.
Reminds me of one game where my opponent pulled of the combo to put an enlightened counter on his faceless haven and I had to dig to my last 3 cards for the one main deck card I had that could win the game. Easily the most fun game I had ever played.
A moment of silence for those that didn’t stick around to watch Match 4.
Insane battle, wow.
Nah we'll surely take our time to watch it
W-O-W
That one made me hit the meds.... Had an AA earlier today. lolol shouldn't be watching MTG, I guess...
You might even say a curse of silence lol. That was an amazing game.!
I knew LVD wouldn't throw the phrase "best game ever" around without a good reason. It was one of the greatest matches of MTG I watched for sure.
I think you could enchant your opponents lands with the runes to avoid field of ruin.
Good point!
This sort of nutty logic is the reason to play MTG.
I'm sure if you did that the second game you play will be against the only other person playing Hallowed Haunting. 😅
@@ExplosiveFetus Hallowed Haunting doesn't count enchantments you don't control.
@@Derael That's true. Rookie mistake.
The single best MTG TH-camr around!
I would've given you more likes for this video if I can. That last match was honestly the best game of Magic I've witnessed.
The patience is awe inspiring. I would have "good game" long before the game got to this length. Truly amazing. Well played

Yeah, or even with Deadly Dispute after attacking sac the Eyetwitch and search any lesson to drain for 2 more. Opponent managed to lose the game vs a massive flood
Opponent made a lot of misplays, like playing the witches out into the meathook massacres
Match 2 does an excellent job illustrating why playing anything other than a tier 1 deck in Standard right now is so painful.
This was the only moment in my long time watching youtube that a youtuber said once "Leave a like for ___" And I did it without hesitation. Amazing match, amazing content

Man that last game was something else lmao. Your white/red spirit deck from a while back got me into Magic, and this deck seems like real fun too! Great stuff! ^^
LVD finally has a game where he admits that it was like an anime episode. I have ascended. Here's your daily like to my fave MTG content creator

Wow, thanks!
Dude how can you be so chilled in a Marathon Match like the last one? You re smth else, well played sir :)
Match 4 was def in my top 3 matches of all time. Once had a Dimir deck vs me as an Esper control player and that match went on for 28 min. Respect.
Last match just got me spoiled. A one of a kind that makes me even happier for following your channel since the first contact. Thank you for the top quality work and effort, as always!

You've got some catching up to do.
Gotta see a match between you 2 Giants!!!!

That last game was magic at its best. Amazing!
Epic game, so glad the opponent let you play it out at the end!
Love Hallowed Haunting, such a great game! Love your content!
What a glorious Match 4, the Legend name proven again to be well deserved.
Want to see a historic deck with Hallowed Haunting. I guess that could be lit 🔥
I was thinking of that. It will be easier with enchantment creatures
Sagas + Hallowed Haunting. Whew.
Wow what a match that 4th one was! Deserves all the likes. That match had a narrative arc. Wow! Just WOW!

Good to see you bring back Runes. Pretty underrated especially since they are bringing back enchantments
That last game was truly one for the ages. I'd like to think the opponent had fun too :)
Usually, I don't give likes to videos, but this one deserves it.
Happy Thanksgiving man, thankful I got to watch that last match, amazing.
Truly do like to watch when I think the game is lost, and somehow you pull it off in the end.
That was a seriously epic last match! Awesome plays, as always.
Runeforge Champion also searches your Graveyard. When you dig for more runes in the late game, it's a good idea to start picking them up from there so you are more likely to draw some later down the line.
I think the logic is to get them out of your deck so that you draw into better cards down the line.

still playing it in hystoric, so much fun :D
I haven't hit like on a video in like 3 years. Well played. You got me.
Yay this is the one I suggested in the toxkrill video 😄😄 thanks LVD 😁🎉

I believe in 21:17 it was possible to keep the spirits alive taking advantage of the Showdown counters:
