In this video, I try making color-changing custom shoes with paints made with solar color dust pigments. This DIY shoes are a fun craft project. Custom Nikes from a viral tiktok video were very popular and I wanted to remake them as an easy DIY, but I definitely ran into some challenges. I got the inspiration from a viral tiktok video showing color changing shoes! Shoes are such a fun clothing to paint, and I have so many ideas for ways to decorate them including sculpting. This was a fun painting project that definitely inspire me to do it again! I love making custom shoes because you can make them personal to you (I will actually wear these). This is always such a cool, creative and easy activity to do if you're bored or need to get over artist's block. You can even use this technique to upcycle some old shoes!

If you get a leather shoe clear enamel spray the colours definitely won't budge oh and also it keeps your shoes waterproof 🙂

Just keep in mind, real brand-name crocs are made of a material that is really hard to customize because almost nothing sticks to it! Even fabric paint just peels off in flakes.

Try Angelus leather paint for the next pair of shoes. I've seen a few people use that. Also try masking tape on areas around where you are painting like the inside of the shoe and the edges on the heels, it helps with contamination.
Yes! That's what I was going to say! Never used them myself but those are the the ones Mariah Elizabeth uses for all leather or fabryce projects.

I’ve also discovered that sanding gave my customization a gross texture. The Angelus deglazer was key for me and the paint adhered great
I use Angelus. It is mwah 👨🍳💋. My only problem with them is they don't keep enough stuff in stock. Last time I went to order the basics, half of it was sold out. 🙁 Good for them, means business is booming, just sucks to have your heart set on a design and have it pushed back. To recap, their products are awesome but don't expect to find everything in stock or a speedy delivery for that matter.

Might I recommend culture hustle’s Super Base as a better choice for pigment binding? It’s an acrylic binder but their products tend to work really well on all sorts of surfaces and uses. You could also try their Stick base which lets you powder coat without having to mix the pigments in
Another good one is Angelus’ leather paints. I learned of them a few years ago, coincidentally, when I saw someone who customized their shoe with color-changing paint. Try their neutral paint; it also goes on clear, so it’s perfect for adding pigments.

Hi Jackie! These look great, but you could always try leather paint. It's flexible, smooth, and won't flake because it's made for shoes. And it comes in multiple colors, including white so it should mix well. My favorite brand is Angelus.
Oh my I love angules too, I use it in my own customs, hopefully Jackie can see this and watch some of there videos on how to use them.
I live close enough to go to there store and they are a great brand and there employees are great people
I love Angelus. ♥️ Do they have heat changing? 🤔 I haven't seen it. Pretty sure she used what she did because of the heat changing pigments.
@@christinasanderford5849 I don't think they have color-changing paint, but I don't see why she can't mix the color-changing powder into the white Angelus paint.
It wouldn't be much different from the mod podge, except the leather paint is much smoother and thinner. The color might be a little lighter because mod podge dries clear and white would dry...white. Also she had some white color-changing powder and those would be amazing in the white leather paint.
She could also use a color of leather paint that's similar to the base color of the powder.
It might not work the way I am envisioning, but I still think it's definitely worth trying.
And that's one thing I really love about this channel. Jackie (and Sika) are so willing to experiment and even when the project doesn't turn out the way they thought it would, they're still willing to show us.
When I get some time, I will probably try the color-changing powder with leather paint myself.

They are so cute. You should try leather paint. I use this brand Angelus. I buy the already pigmented versions of their paint but the leather finishing paint they have is clear and would hold your pigments well. The consistency of this paint is super smooth and not gloopy. Love your videos and adorable shoes. So fun.
Try the Angelus leather paints in white maybe and mix the pigments in? Applying those is super easy and it goes on super smooth in my experience ❤️
Jackie next time you could try using the air spray machine and mix the pigments with a white leather paint but first do like a pass with just white maybe it won't take as much passes and you will have a better finish

You could try to customize some of your doubles of mini brands. For example you could take a Crayola and change it to crapola.
I’m so proud of how far you have become as a TH-camr I mean look at you have your own merch have your own craft kit that’s insane keep up the great work I know you might not see this but your the one that inspired me to do art I paint sometimes and sometimes draw and it’s all because of you so thank you for that I might not be good at it but it’s the effort and if I’m having fun that counts love your channel Jackie keep up the great work
Would love to see you customize Crocs since you love them! They'd probably be really good for sculpting on.
With my experience of shoe customization, I highly recommend leather paints! The end results come out super smooth and they do work in an air brush if you dilute them a bit. My sister does shoe customization as well and she does full on detailed anime designs. She uses the same paint and it still comes out super smooth making the designs look printed. Hopefully this helps for your next shoe customization!😁
I watched ten hundred paint a few different kinds of fabrics in some of his videos. He uses something called GAC 900 by Golden. He did a leather jacket and it turned out awesome!
I painted lots of shoes with airbrush and brush on paint. For your first time you did good. Next time try to paint a base layer of the color first then the glow.

I love the angelus leather paint for customizing shoes, bags, etc. They are great and inexpensive, apply several thin layers and let each one dry for about an hour in between and top off with their varnish. Also sanding the shoes first was a great decision, it helps the paint to stick a lot better, especially on products that get handled a lot 😊👍 your pair turned out so cute, can't wait for the second pair 😍❤️
I work with restoring colour or recolouring leather and vinyl and I would recommend air brush or spray/paint gun on leather or vinyl to get a smooth result in less then 8-10 coats.
I like the project very much! Right up my alley and maybe something I'll try myself!

A recommendation for the next shoes, when you paint it tape the parts you don't want to have paint. Also for "painting" use leather paint and mix in your pigment and then add paint thinner you can airbrush this on or use a sprayer that you can get at home depot for cheap and apply in thin layers and allow to dry. 😊

I used to tie my shoes once and then just slip them on, but after becoming an adult and having my own choice in shoes lol I just buy ones that don't have laces at all.

Um so I don't want to be that person but the Acrylic medium is mostly equal to "water" for diluting. I say that in the case of like if you want to dilute acrylic paint and keep it lasting a little longer, you use the acrylic medium. Because water breaks down the binding that acrylic paint has, acrylic medium is used to replace water to maintain the binding and make it last longer without changing the color. Which is why it's liquidy. Hopefully, that helps for next time around! if I had to suggest something next time around is white leather paint. It is the best and understands the flexibility of a shoe. Just seal it afterward and that should help :)
i love thermochromes for nails. since finger temperature changes quite a bit during the day, i get lots of different colors and gradients with very little work! the purple/teal is my favorite
I customize canvas shoes and it’s a lot easier. I’ve done ones for friends when they’ve gone to Disney, each person had their favorite Disney character on their shoes.

I am the kind of person who ties my shoes every time. I also untie them whenever I take them off. Mostly because I tie them super tight, so there'd be no wiggle room for my feet, so I don't like it.

AF is a really recent slang and I think came a long time after these came out. Plus AF is still an acronym for the Air Force.
The second pair you should totally do “cyber punk “ it would be so cool and they would glow in the dark or under black light for neon and you would have day shoes and night shoes !
Not to shabby Jackie. I would recommend next time that you pick up some Angelus leather paint and use masking tape to tape off sections as you paint. You can use an airbrush with this paint and pigments to get a smoother finish or use a brush. There is no need to sand the leather before painting, but using cotton balls/pads and rubbing alcohol to remove the protective layer so the paint adheres better is recommended (Some of the paint will come off as you remove the protective layer so don't freak out) . Don't forget to pick up a finish coat aswell to protect the paint. Happy painting.

Angelus Paints could help a bit too! Its a leather paint but the way the shoes look it seems the fabric may work the same as pleather!

I know the struggles of being short and having large feet, I'm only 5 ft 2 but I have a size 9 and 1/2 4E in women's and sometimes I can even fit into 10s. Also, this video gave me a lot of inspiration because I recently bought a pair of white shoes (I didn't get brand name though in case I ruin them 😆) to customize

I love that the heat reactive color was added instead of just using the UV. It definitely gives it a different dimension.
Yup, crafters are addicts. I just saw a new ad for a mini loom. I watched the video and said "hey, that looks like fun"....nope, got stuff in my craft closet I don't remember what it's for or how to use it. lol Craft on my friend.
I ALWAYS tie my shoes because otherwise my foot slips out all the time, which on one side just bothers me and on the other side gives me blisters even with shoes that are well worn in.
Haven't watched u in forever now I'm binge watching u I did this on purpose so I have loads of videos to watch bc I get very impatient when there isn't a video so I improvised by not watching u for like 1-2 months maybe more

My concern with using the base meant for “fabric” is that Nike’s are usually made out of leather and also has a sealant type of coating to protect them…. So I’m not sure how long your design will last if not taking those things into consideration. Either way, I haven’t finished your video yet and might be getting ahead of myself.

Have you thought of using white acrylic paint with fabric medium? The white base as opposed to the clear base would require fewer coats of paint

Yep. You succeeded. Those shoes turned out great. And they look way more cooler than just being pale white. And for your question: yes. I do tide my shoes every time I go outside because I feel more comfortable when my shoes are tide properly. Exceptions being if I just go do something really quick like taking a trash out.
