We have the same skin type and I'm trying to find a sunscreen that doesn't make me oily because I don't wear makeup and I also don't want to look oily but I really need to sunscreen! Hi! New subscriber here. I have a question on your opinion of the dermatologist rx’d tret and agency. I know agency has those added ingredients but does it dilute the tretnoin? I guess what I’m asking is if you get the same amount of tretnoin (not percentage of strength but actual ingredient) as you would in a single tube from the dr? I just signed up to agency so I haven’t even tried the formula yet but I’m interested to know if I would be getting the same amount per bottle.

Tretinoin Will make your skin looks better and yes, helps with aging. But, unfortunately, jawline acne probably points to insulin resistance and estrogen predominance. So what you said about sugar and etc is completely correct. Please, search an endocrinologist or some hormone specialist and treat the root problem. Hope it helps.

I’m 71 and been using Tretinoin for at least 15 years. It took years for it to stop irritating my skin. After about 2 years I was able to advance to .05. I’ve made a few mistakes along the way, like putting too much on my neck and chest. Eventually neck and chest adapted but it was hard. At 71 no one believes my age.

I have come across anecdotes on the calming benfits of incoporating niacinamide into vitamin A-focused skincare routines. I personally have not tried using a pure niacinamide product (high concentration) as part of my retinol night-time routine. I have however used calming products, which contain niacinamide (I believe, of low concentration), after applying retinol serum. I tend to keep it simple by just applying my retinol serum followed by a thick calming (boring) moisturiser. I hope this’d help.

I can comment on the wrinkles side of things…I started at 20 and I am 55 now. So I have been using prescription retinols for 35 years. For me it has been a game changer and I am so glad I started early using it. I have no wrinkles and my skin is so smooth and flawless thanks to it. I have had comments from people who thought I was 35 or 40 years old. I know it’s expensive and the irritation phase can be hard but my advice is to stick with it because the end result is so worth it! :)

I find Differin has been great for acne and sounds more gentle on skin. I alternate it with Epiduo which also includes benzoyl peroxide in the most acne prone area. Differin has done wonders for everything, texture, brightness..made my skin baby smooth. It has promising antiaging benefits but not much data yet, but most importantly doesn't make you sun sensitive.

I’m 49 and have been on a retinol product off and on for years starting for treatment of acne. It is the most important skincare item besides sunscreen and it does wonders! Added bonus is you can and should skip crazy expensive products with added fragrance in favor or simple, inexpensive moisturizers.

At 23, I am a year and a half into my tret journey and will use it every day for the rest of my life. the first 6 months were very tough, and my skin went through so much, but i am absolutely amazed at how little scarring i have left when i think about how i looked a year and a half ago. i had tried to treat what i thought was cystic acne over the counter for about 6 months before seeing a dermatologist, and then found out i actually had rosacea fulminans, which is a fairly rare cutaneous disorder that resulted from having sepsis. they wanted me on isotretinoin, but i wanted to try tretinoin first as the side effects of isotretinoin were likely to exasperate other health issues. i am SO glad i gave tret a chance and did not stop when i had initial irritation. i had to start on 0.1% (along with a steroid and an antibiotic orally) as what I had needed a nontraditional course of treatment. there is no reason to start that high if you don't have to, as the irritation was pretty significant for me.

I’ve been using tretinoin for 7 months but the first 3 months I had a very low RX of .005, then a bump to .012 and I’ve now been using .025 for about a month. I highly recommend a low and slow approach. Gradually increasing the strength has made the process completely painless. I still breakout a bit but I think if I continue to increase the tretinoin and stay consistent it will only get better! Thanks for sharing.

Tretinoin saved my skin from horrible acne I’ve had most of my life. I wish I had used it 15 years ago. For me the purging and irritation was really really bad for the first few months…the key is to stick with it and be gentle with your skin. I started using 0.1 last year, it was perfect timing, working from home and not having to go out and or feel ashamed of my skin purge / look crazy with flaky skin. Honestly it was the best time to more up to stronger concentration of tretinoin, now I’m looking into different procedures like micro needling. I still have alittle acne scars that caused a bit of discoloration. Have you done any skin procedures like chemical peels, microdermabrasion, mircroneedling and such or in combination to tret? Everyone’s skin is different so if you’re seeing great results at .025 and your dr recommends staying there, I think that’s great! I was still having issues with hormonal cystic acne at the lower dose which has cleared up at higher concentrations. And for anti-aging there was a study that showed the .1% concentration prevented collagen degradation. Yes there are downsides to higher doses (skin irritation, dryness, peeling, etc) but I’ve found if I gradually increase the strength I haven’t experienced those issues. I have the same issue w perioral dermatitis. If I use one too many products, particularly scrubs, masks w acids, vit c and adapalene (because new insurance won't cover tretinoin), I will undoubtedly start getting those little red irritating p.o.d. bumps the next day.

    • @SophiaDerivan
      @SophiaDerivan ปีที่แล้ว +2

I hope this helps. I started tretinoin & a month & a half later I had terrible p.o.d. I switched up from .025 to 0.5% & the perioral dermatitis calmed down. I went to allergy specialists & doctors to see what was going on. I have a rare allergy to a preservative, but as far as I could tell it was not in any products I used(including tretinoin ingredient list). Anyways, I don’t know what possessed me, but I switched up to .05% tretinoin & it has really improved. I only had mild peeling around my nose, otherwise things have been okay. It might just be the formulation of the percentage you’re using. Don’t give up just yet! I know the struggle!😩 My skin has drastically improved. .025% didn’t do much, but since the .05% my skin hasn’t been this good since I was a child.

I started watching your videos for hair care and stumbled upon (thankfully) your skin care videos with cetaphil/cerave. I've used cetaphil since I was 13 experiencing clammy yet dry peeling hands and now I use cerave for my hands which is just as great. Now I'm 32, moved to the winter tundra in Northern Minnesota 5 years ago and started experiencing face acne/dryness/inflammation that just got worse every year when it started to change seasons in the fall/winter. I have have always been very lucky with not having issues with acne. Ever. Except for maybe a year during puberty. But I was beside myself experiencing cracked, inflamed , dry, flaky acne face skin. I was wearing bandaids on my poor face for weeks (thankfully working from home). So i made an appt to see a derm. They set me up with tretanoin and it's definitely made a huge difference although I am still getting some acne, however not quite as angry/inflamed and seems to go away faster.
I was dabling with rosehip oil for 2 weeks before I was prescribed tret but was advised to discontinue the oil for now since we are trying to troubleshoot the problem otherwise. It's been 2 months since I started tret I can't help but be tempted to add a bit of rosehip oil since so many people have success with it and it was relieving the dryness on my face for the minute that I used it. Apologies for the long post! Haha I was wondering if you have experienced with face oils at all or any advise on maybe how I could incorporate a little in or if I should stay far away??
Also, you tried natural deodorant and couldn't continue... saaaaame. Tried for 3 months and then I went back to faithful degree deodorant. At that moment I was like, we re skin sisters, hah! But for real I appreciate anything tretinoin, catephil, cerave it really has helped me!!
I've been putting a lot of thought into if the climate in Northern MN can be held accountable for this shift in skin reaction.... 🤔
Would love to hear your take on rosehip oil if you can! Thanks! Hope you all the vest in 2022 in your new life chapter!

Hi Abbey ❤, This was a very good video of your Tretnoin experience. I don't really have breakouts that much and when I do its down to my diet. For example at Christmas time when I'm indulging in too much food. It's interesting that your skin is more prone to irritation after tret. I'm the opposite. After 2 years of tretinoin, my skin is SO MUCH less reactive. I have rosacea, so chemical sunscreens would cause breakouts 100% of the time. Now I can use them a few times a week without issue. I also use NIOD's CAIS3 and snail mucin, both of which also help with making my skin less reactive.

Has tretinoin made any difference to the redness over 2 years?

    • @obscurity7
      @obscurity7 2 ปีที่แล้ว

@@mmmbb509 It's hard to say which product ultimately helped the most, because my tretinoin has azelaic acid, which is often prescribed for rosacea, and I use the CAIS3. Copper peptides, azelaic acid, tretinoin, and if you can tolerate it, niacinamide, are probably the 4 things most like to help. I also have broken capillaries, and sadly, that requires lasers at the doctor's office to fix.

I have rosacea & same! I’ve used adapalene for 8+ years w a recent switch to tretinoin. My skin is so much less reactive. (Especially w using azelaic acid too on off nights! Highly recommend if you don’t use already) It’s actually bc, according to derms I’ve heard, the thickening of your dermis. Making the rest of your skin less reactive. Retinoids are amazing! I am so jealous you can use chemical sunscreens tho. I can’t even use combo anymore. Tinted Mineral only for me unfortunately

So I wash, then use a plumping HA gel like hado labo or hydro boost, or the cosrx snail all in one cream. Then I use a thick moisturizer drunk elephant whipped lala or cerve, then tret then 20 mins later another layer of an occulsive moisturizer if im experiencing dryness. 💜 Loved the veedip

A couple months ago I started using Paula's Choice exfoliant. It was too much. So I started using the exfoliant you suggested (can't remember the name CereVe?) Using that and a Vit C serum every morning turned the corner. My skin is glowy and spots are reducing along with enlarged pores. I'm going to switch to Agency. Not all that impressed with Curology's communication. If I ask a specific question I get a canned answer that doesn't address the issue.

Love your content! Ive been on tretinoin for almost 7 years now. I was also prescribed it for acne (adult acne I developed after quitting androgenic BC when I’d been clear my entire life 😩). I started on .05 and I’m now on .1. Like you, it didn’t entirely clear my acne which was def disappointing - I have had to incorporate other actives to do some more work for me personally when it comes to the monthly cysts (P50 all over and BP on my chin preventatively in the AM, dapsone, clindamycin, and azelaic acid at night along w tret..it took years for me to be able to tolerate all these actives ofc and I pull back whenever I notice signs of irritation). I honestly had perfect texture less skin before I started breaking out, so the goal has always been to get back my ‘before’ skin and I pretty much do have that, besides the occasional break outs. Over the years, I have developed fine lines on my forehead, so tret hasnt prevented that, but again it’s been almost 7 years (I started at age 22 and I’m about to turn 29), so who knows how much worse they’d be without the tret. Thinking about trying the needless serum/peptides before I hop into preventative botox. Otherwise, my skin is super fragile, breaks super easily (can’t get it scratched or itll immediately bleed basically), and ofc more sensitized and easily irritated. I also swear by the LRP cicaplast baume. I apply it as my last product AM and PM.

Thank you for the update! Also been using it for a few months and have been really impressed with the results. Do you use it on your neck? Or face only?

I used differin for ages and despite a lot of people’s positive experiences, it just didn’t do enough for me. It didn’t help with my texture and congestion at all really. I started on tretinoin 0.025% and my skin was astoundingly smooth for the first few weeks, and then my texture issues came back (I have excessively oily and congestion prone skin). Recently switched to 0.05% and my skin looks flawless! I love how there are different strengths for when your skin becomes accustomed to the product

I use to have cystic acne. I found out it was caused by food allergies and sleep deprivation. I avoid sugar, gluten and dairy, and purposefully get sleep. I've been acne free since I made these changes and have very smooth skin.

I just started using Agency 3 months ago. I love their formulation. I’m 43, I had been using CeraVe Retinol for a couple of years but needed to up my dose. I can’t believe the difference the higher dose has made on my skin in three months.

Im currently using tret for just a month, derma prescribed .025. First two weeks it really irritates my skin, and it really helps me, since i work from home, maybe it takes a while before i have to see the result, just like you, you have. Beautiful face

Hi Abbey! Hope you’re loving Chi-town! I live in Minnesconsin (I’m a border gal) and enjoy your channel! I started Agency a couple nights ago with a trial. I also purchased the Needless Serum and been using nightly for 6 months or so. I haven’t used it since I started this prescription. My question is can I use it? Should I wait a couple weeks before adding it back into my skincare routine? Or can I jump back in?!

Abbey!! Can you review the brand Bliss? They’re in Target and i think Walmart too!

Agree with you that I thought my skin couldn't get any better than with tretinoin until I started using rx azelaic acid and my home LED mask
Great video as always Abbey 💞

I started Curology .01% Tret in September. I have INCREDIBLY sensitive skin and have scarring from a bout with a bad derm who insisted I use .025% Tret every day despite the agonizing breakouts I was getting in areas I didn't normally break out in. Fast-forward to my 30s and I have more breakouts than I ever did at 20, so I started Curology despite being gunshy with Tret. I started seeing improvement with the low low dose almost immediately. I started buffering Altreno into my moisturizer in December and started purging again but WOW, even in a month, I've seen so much improvement. I *LOVE* Altreno to death - it's the most elegant tret formula I've ever used and it doesn't make my skin burn the next day like generic Tret .025% cream. I'm still peeling so I have to back off of my every other day usage here and there just to let things calm and heal and then re-introduce it. Just trying to take it slow with the higher dose (Altreno is .05%).

I have had the exact same experience as you! With the exception that I’ve been on it for about 1.5 years and am still at 0.025 using every other night (with a lotion buffer) and I still get flaking! I’m hoping this will eventually stop and I can very slowly keep increasing strength.
Would also love a curology vs agency video, specifically if you could mention whether or not you have seen any improvement with the addition of tranexamic acid!

Same 😭 I'm on 0.05 ams have been for 1 year and 2months and after a brief period on which my skin seemed to have adjusted to daily use now I am still getting flaky and i hate it. I know time will do the trick and I have to stick with it but sometimes it's hard 😭 I use a buffer before (NMF cream by the ordinary), and recently I started using the Cicaplast b5 after tret, as a second buffer and it seems to help a little with the flakiness

Eleonora Ragona yes!! I’m really hoping it’ll stop soon. I do use a moisturizer first and have noticed that putting an oil (I use rose hip) on top does help, but, I still do get the flaking sometimes! I end up almost rubbing/exfoliating my face a bit when I oil cleanse and I think that helps a bit but I can’t help but wonder if that’s actually good to do?!

@@aliciapaul132 hey! Not a derm here but that seems like a very common practice with tret & differin (which I’m on) users. It’s perfectly fine to gently roll off the flaking skin while washing your face. You could even use gentle mechanical (maybe a damp washcloth) or chemical (low percentage aha or pha) to exfoliate as needed if your skin can handle it. Obviously YMMV & it’s best to go in sloowww when introducing other forms of exfoliation to an already sensitized retinoid face but it’s worth a try if the flakes are persistant.

wench thank you for your response! I’ve always wondered if it’s actually okay that I do this, haha! I do use an AHA but still have to gently physically exfoliate. Glad to hear that this is okay to do!

so interesting!! Super random video to make this comment on but I was so curious if you would cosnider making a video about hair products you recommend for people who may not have colour terated hair? Or maybe what to look for in a shampoo that makes it a good shampoo/conditioner? Love your video and advice but I dont have colour treated hair! Just not sure what brands to even look at :(

So, i started using tret after watching one of your videos about a year and a half ago. My skin definitely looks better but i still have really clogged pores and like you said can't use regular exfoliants because it will irritate my skin. Any recos for clogged pores while on tret? Thanks! You're an inspiration!
