“Historical fiction with touches of magical realism.” I thought this exact same thing about Isabel Ibanez’s previous book Woven in the Moonlight. I’ve noticed that lots of YA writers seem to think that lightly fictionalized history counts as fantasy. Also, in that book, Ibanez took the colonialist point of view and I don’t trust that for Egypt in this time period, esp if they’re taking and using the artifacts themselves. Did you notice any issues like that?
