    Small to large 5
    Small to med 3
    Med to large 2.6
    Planetary 2.3 to 1 Planetary give multiple ratios in one unit depending on speed
    Same size gear 1
    Large to med .66
    Med to small .33
    Large to small .2
    Your ratios are torque multipliers why gear ratios above 1 give more acceleration ratios below 1 increase top speed
    If any of this works right in game no clue tho but enjoyed watching you trying to figure it out

      Planetary gives multple ratios?

      @AlMagmaGaming yes that's how they work normally a torque converter on a automatic is a Planetary so lower rpms you get more torque for acceleration an as the rpms get higher it changes ratios to 1 to 1 if this works correctly in game tho idk but in game I saw it said 2.3 an 1 so I'd believe it change thru those ratios as rpm increases

      @JoshDillon-lm3hw unles I'm mistaken an torque converter is not a planetary gear...
      It's a torque converter is a fluid coupler.
      Completely different design and function.

      @AlMagmaGaming there's vicious fluid ones an Planetary ones. Most are vicious fluid tho with the gear itself in the automatic trans being Planetary gears but there's also designs with Planetary going into a more manual gear box style set up

      @@AlMagmaGaming well he is kinda right. all depending on the rpm you can get bonus gears because it make a gear change every time it will benefit the curve. you can sometimes get a couple free gears that dont really exists.

    I'm only halfway through the video and you might figure this out later, but i think you were wrong about the friction on gear ratios. You conflated your numbers from a medium:small gear with a 1:1. The 1:1 and gearing up/gearing down numbers matched perfectly. No friction. Both were 76.2. It was medium:small that was 95.2. Just don't want to see you make bad assumptions from a small data mistake.
    But otherwise love the analysis.

    I just tested this as I was wondering myself:
    Planetary = 1 : 2.2805
    Large -> Small = 1 : 1.9850
    Large -> Med = 1 : 1.5910
    Med -> Small = 1 : 1.2389
    The 2.3 for the planetary is correct, its the visual models that are inaccurate, so the game is shifting correctly. Combining gears give the result you would expect, with some discrepancy from the second decimal, due to how the game calculates combined gears probably. As an example a planetary to med to small is 2.8431 but one would expect it to be 1.2389 * 2.2805 = 2.8253.

    I'm hoping someone a lot smarter than me in this field can help me out.
    I have a basic understanding on how the gear ratios work. Small into large = acceleration.
    Large into small = top speed.
    But im really struggling to combine the two.
    I am either creating a fast vehicle, but it never gets close to the top speed because the acceleration is too low.
    Or i create a high accelerating vehicle, but the top speed is low.
    I'm doing research to try and find the solution, but I'm finding nothing to help me.
    Even watching this video, I'm not sure what's happening here to combine the two factors.
    Is it something to do with seperate systems for a high acceleration axis to opperate the high speed axis?
    If so...
    How?
    Cause i tried that, and the system always ends up looping on itself.

      What you need is a gearshift/transmission.
      The ingame gearshifter comes in a 2-position or 3-position setup. There is quite a few ways to design one, but basically:
      What you need to do is have the power from your motor enter the back of the shifter. On the other end of the shifter you will have to gear-trains. Often a small>large and a large>small. When the shifter is at it's resting position (the way it looks when you build it), only one train will be complete. When it shifts, it pulls the gears back and connects the second train.

      have you tried doing the in-game tutorial?

      @@AlMagmaGaming i looked into my different creations and i found the problem. it is difficult to explain in words, but essentially what i had done, is in the attempt to improve both acceleration and top speed simultaneously, i was trying to create two different systems which have a different role. However, i was connecting them in the wrong place making these two different systems essentially one system, so the gear ratios were cancelling each other out. Thus creating a vehicle with all acceleration, no top speed, or vice versa. so, fingers crossed, by redesigning the systems to connect the correct way, it should do what i intend it to do.
