Thnaks a lot for giving us the newest lore snippets from the Battletech universe. And boy did the Inner Sphere saw some majore shakeups. House Steiner is all but annihilated, the Davions - as we see here - are just so holding up, while the more "evil" factions (Liao and Kurita) are on the offensive, while in the backgrounds those darn Clanners are about to become a major problem - again.

And then Clan Mary Sue captured Terra, becoming the IL-Clan, heralding the newest chapter in the lore...

I don’t see them as goody two shoes either. In other news, Khalil Tech is one of the top five Party Schools in the federated Suns.
The Davions are finally getting the comeuppance they deserved since the 4SW, tbh. For the early part of the setting (and for the time periods every video game has been set in, and this is huge for a lot of people new to Battletech), the Davions have been "the good guys" and the "Western Space Empire," favored with a liberal application of plot armor unless they were fighting God's Favorite Clan, Clan Wolf; whether that favor was as the Federated Suns or the Federated Commonwealth (which was just "the FedSuns but bigger" with all the Lyran trappings pretty much ignored or removed). Plus, when the major complaints on modern Davions are "they're losing!" (from their fans) or "they've got to be the good guy because they follow the US propaganda approach to governance, why are they losing to Space Asians" then it gets old. But in short: Davions will bring you freedom, one bomb at a time. Can't trust 'em, can't live next to 'em, they'll take your stuff and 15 years later get mad that you try to take it back In meme: I've been hating Davions since before it was cool; long live the Celestial Wisdom, may it guide us all, etc.

The only reason for making this even marginally successful for the Capellans has everything to do with trying to reverse goodwill from Julian to Erik, especially after 3145 where Julian was written up already to be a saviour en route to the Capellan March (He had to come from the ROTS after all), and Erik got tarnished with the rest of the AFFS High Command with being part of the cause of the Palmyra Disaster. Post-Palmyra AFFS is so pathetic and tiny, the Cappellans should've overrun them, if not for Daoshen's desire to take Terra. Pity the story is just a bunch of fiat events happening, one after the other, to get the ilClan in power with little to no challenge.
It feels good that the fedsuns are crawling back from the century (or decades out of universe) of getting Ls. Honestly can’t wait for the Ilkhan’s eyes only to see Liao get their win streak completely shattered by clan wolf characters
Considering the blatant plot armor a lot of other factions have recieved I don't consider this to be that bad. The Capellan Confederation was literally about to be snuffed out from the lote in its entirety in the 4th succession war. But was convienently saved by a taxtical genius named Sun Tzu. Yes. THAT Sun Tzu. He managed to bring the Cappellans back from the brink despite the fact they were fighting both the Free Worlds League and the Federated Commonwealth. The latter of which has the combined military industrial complexes of both nations that make it. And is supported and at truce with the Free Worlds League. At best, the Capellans were half of the size of the FWL and a quarter of FedCom, at most. In no other scenario would such a small nation already struling to hold themselves together would be able withstand a two fromt war. Let alone one that is being fought by two vastly superior militaries.
