As a new comer to battletech all the random books makes a headache. I found there were 3 books just for “beginners”. It’s just messy for a new version/edition of a game.

Yay, fresh lore! As someone who didn't play Battletech since around Fed-Com Civil War it's nice to be brought up to speed rather than being retold about Clan Invasion for umpteenth time. 😁

I haven’t picked it up yet but I’m planning on it for my custom force. They operate largely in that domain between Combine Space and Rasalhague so I generally draw my mechs from the FRR (pre merger) and Draconis Combine charts. I sometimes fudge it for merc available mechs, but really try to avoid pure “salvage” unless I just have to make up a story for a mech.

Davion was my first favorite faction. Hard NOT to like Victor Davion. Better relationships with the Draconis Combine back then too. Hopefully Julian can pull the Suns back.

Huh Ithought the whole point of ilclan waas to be the first anything goes era of battletech hince those mech manuels having every mech to ever exsit and set in ilclan... Though I guess both can be true. Where the forces of the ilclan era are rebuilbling their forces so they are picking mechs and systems from all eras. Kinda like no idea is a bad idea concept which is very true of IRL when a force is modernizing. So in theory right now you can use any mech with any system from any era for your unit. As you can just say this is how you are specing out your force and your faction is ok with it as you are the one fighting right now with what ever means you can. Also guiven the nature of the Ilclan era all the great houses should have access to and willing to using all the data on everything the trick being building it... Which point cost play a heavy and only factor for your force construction... So really as of right now the only only question you need to ask your self being a force a for a premade faction is... What funding does your force have? Also you can ask what tech do I have access too in what amounts? Like House Stainer the first tech that comes to mind they would have unlimited avable of is all assault mech and the heavest mech inb the other classes frames from all the eras... As they very much would have being tgheir thing always have been the heavest mechs in any class. So yeah I would not worry about having a uniform force as that is very much against the idea of the setting... If anything I would be mpore worried about roleplaying as a commander of the operation you are in and choosing what they would choose... Over a default force that likely only exists on paper in the ilcklan era.
