I have the nut and bolt as part of my EDC, it's a fun little throwaway bit of magic Quick tip, instead of trying to hide the magnet somewhere, you can use a PK ring instead.

@@magicorthodoxy wondering if I should just try to get the coins and risk the $60. just to see if the coins will actually come or if I'll be ripped off. haha. what do u think the moral way to go with that would be? I bought a set of the coins from Dean way back for 1500. so In my head I'm thinking it's not like I'm trying to get the trick without paying the creator. more out of curiosity. maybe I'll ask I'm Jaimie skool Kraft if it's cool to conduct the experiment. what are your thoughts?

I have purchased a few of the nut and bolt effects and although it can be a bit loud, it works great in a bar setting. I don’t know if anyone knows this but the nut can either spin off or further up the bolt depending on which side of the magnet is pressed to the battery compartment. Ali express will email you the instructions for any trick you buy.

"G of clubs" LMAO. I love this review. Is it just me? I've been buying magic for over 20 years, I LOVE going to the store and buying effects. Or even ordering some online. But even though I already know how most are done, when I finally get them home and I sit and play with them there's this kind of disappointment. I remember getting my first trick and the guy warned me that once I started magic I'd lose that sense of wonderment, he was right I guess. It's a sick addiction I think, buying magic. I love performing effects for people. I get excited going to the shop. I love having unopened effects in a bag and going home. But once I sit and open them, it's like the day after Christmas. Is it just me?

I have ordered from aliexpress, stuff hasn't arrived yet but something that caught my eye was apparently a $2 Crystal Cleaver ($5 with shipping). even if it's knockoffs it's way more expensive/out of stock to get the real thing secondhand. sort of interesting: there are many items with pictures with blurred bicycle rider backs. Not sure if it means they are trying to pass it off as rider back or not, or if the blurred parts are actually not the same. I didn't order any of those so that's interesting I guess.

One last thing and I’ll shut up the big brass piece that fits the bolt isn’t needed to perform the effect. You only need to slide it on once to do something that makes the bolt spin then you remove it before you perform the trick and you don’t have to put it back on between performances.

Well I did it. After 3 weeks of scouring every inch of this planet via the Internet searching for volume 1 and 2 of a certain title. I have determined they are completely and utterly sold out of existence. Sadly all of the legitimate magic stores that said it was "in stock" I found out days later that it was out of stock by getting my money refunded. This happened 5 times. By the last time I just didn't care anymore, I expected it. So these books as advertised and spoken about and of course by the fact that they are not to be found anywhere. Not even for some extreme dollar amount. Reinforces my feelings that I actually need these books for this magical presentation that I am composing. So I decided to risk a whole $5 and bought the pair on AliExpress. I'm not holding my breath. I'm mostly expecting to get a blank ream of paper with a picture of the book on the cover. But I can only hope that they are the actual books. Or facsimiles at best.

The author gave him his contact information to pass along to me, because he still had a few copies of his own and was willing to sell them to me. I just received them last week in the mail! Autographed by the author himself! Now if that is not Magic, I don't know what is! PS. I never did get those books from AliExpress or any indication that I will.

That was a really interesting review, David. I've made some excellent purchases from China including a very nice stage size super jumbo three card monte. I have the Micro Psychic Bolt and I've used it for a children's magic show and it got a "wow!" (If a nut did magically unwind itself from a bolt, Harry Potter style, I think most people would expect it to make that noise, so it's a nice little gadget to own if you want a quick pocket trick for an informal setting. N.B. I have handed out the nut and bolt for inspection before and after the effect without a problem.)
Is it true that a significant number of professional magic tricks (e.g. sold by well known Magic suppliers or eBay sellers) are actually manufactured in China or other Far Eastern countries? We just pay up to ten times more for them because they are in stock in our own country. I have had some very bad experiences with great looking effects sold at big name stores in the West that have turned out to be very expensive mistakes. These were all made in the East and sold in the West for high prices. One particular trick, costing around a hundred US dollars used electronics. The thing never worked and the big name store gave me a refund. Because I was really determined to build the thing into a good routine I had thought of, I bought another one a few months later. I thought I would give the creator of the trick another chance. That one didn't work either. Thanks to a very helpful UK shop, the creator corresponded with me personally and asked the big name distributor in the USA to provide me with a replacement. The big name distributor said they could not do so because none of the ones they had in their huge warehouse worked. I left it for a few months and bought one more. You can guess what happened! A very helpful gadget genius at a famous London Magic shop tried to get it working for me but it only did its thing once and then packed up for good.
If I want 'cheap and cheerful' I am happy to wait up to six weeks for it to arrive after a very long journey on an oriental ship. I'd rather take that risk than pay Western prices for the same dodgy quality stuff. To be fair, like you, I have sometimes been very pleasantly surprised with what I have received.
David, I would be interested to know where you bought your 'better quality' stiff rope. I want to add this to my kids show rope routine. How does it compare with the one in this video? On magic shop websites, they all look the same in the photos.

  • @koolmagic114
    @koolmagic114 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Honestly.. when you do these types of videos, you should really pre-open and no5 do the “I’m surprised as you” so you are a bit more prepared with the items. Most off of Ali are rip offs of marketed effects. The folding key is a Joe Porper effect. Of course pencils they coin is is a Tenyo effect as you mentioned. All though I’m not sure if a marked deck can “technically” be trademarked. The idea of marking it like that was someone else’s. Again floating ting. Trademarked? Strebler and of course Mesika but have routines with this and I wouldn’t be surprised if Ali verbatim used their teaching. But I am pretty sure this video will encourage the purchasing of buying knock-offs as can be read buy some of the comments. Purchase of knocked off Quantum deck, purchase of Ult Bill in Lemon for $15 which is a $250 marketed effect. I am sure MANY of the items you saw on Ali before making your purchases you recognized as knock offs.
I am not upset nor is this a “flame” comment. We all want to save some $$. I currently have this paused at the rubic effect which I’m sure has to be someone’s else’s as well. Can you “trademark” a shell? Trademark laws don’t apply over seas so they can make / sell what they want. But you may have turned on hundreds of folks to buying knock offs, which is one of the reasons now top performers are not releasing their good material to the public.
I do enjoy watching your videos.

Keep up the great work ! :) You post up so many great reviews I always wonder where you have time for your life? 😀

Hi David, thanks for the AliExpress Video. When buying from that type of website you just have to understand what you are getting for the most part is going to be cheap quality. You also need to read reviews to help guide you. I purchase some magic items myself which I received maybe 2 weeks and I was very surprised on how good they actually were. I don't buy items that I know are knockoffs. @@magicorthodoxy I did not know how to contact you directly. That Mark leverage video we talked about earlier where he does a party video is on sale right now for $14 at hocus-pocus. It's crazy. Hope you pick it up and maybe review it. Mark is a soft-spoken legend.

I ordered four items from AliExpress. I received two of them. I requested a refund on the two I didn't receive, and that was two months ago. I do not recommend ordering from this company.

@@magicorthodoxy Yes, they were. At least it was only about $20. But still, I hate to be taken by a company. Live and learn.

If it is a sansmind product I will gladly and gladly guy it from ali express or other magic shops from China for 90% off.
I will encourage anyone to do the same. I don't like Sansmind company 🤷‍♂️.
Also a lot of compaines just rip off customers for items that shouldn't be expensive at all. So we just turn to china for help lol.
