Had a go at this. Been painting for about a year so not very seasoned at all, but it worked out nicely. My second attempt I painted in the sky and spritzed and tilted to get things moving even more. The goal here was to not muck around too much with the paint once it is on the paper. This exercise can be done over and over again in slightly different ways to get different results while building ones confidence. Thought it was a great lesson.
Thanks for your feedback, and sounds like you are making great progress! 😊🎨
Hello Lois, I wish to thank you for your most valuable tutorials, especially the "under 5 minute" selections. I have found with your guidance that my watercolors no longer resemble overworked pieces and the colors remain crisp without turning to mud. Now my skies and landscapes allow the viewer to piece together the composition without struggling to make sense of what is on the paper. Again, many thanks for your inspiring tutorials. David
The 5 min series is fab!
I have limited daily time to paint and use smaller/postcard size paper … I can still achieve loose effects by ‘playing’ with my larger brushes trying to make every stroke count …. thank you because I want to avoid stressing over detail … I agree with you - it’s the feeling that the choice of colour and brevity of brush work evokes that helps to create water colour magic. Am having lots of fun and learning so much! Thank you.
Watercolour beginners should know it's one of the hardest medium. There is a complicated dance between the paper, the sizing, the pigment, water control, humidity etc. Etc. . If you use it too rigidly, you miss out. If you want complete control of the outcome this isn't the medium for you. Believe me- I've spent too much time wanting to conquer it!😅
I personally LOVE your tutorials bc you've mastered the dance! I love your innate composition and color combinations ... how use use water and gravity. How you embrace the unpredictability and improvise. This is when watercolor is at its best and most beautiful. Your paintings are a breath of fresh air! Youve reminded me to get intimate with my paper and practice water control. But also, essentially surrender and let loose- controlling what I can along the ride.
And like you've said previously: 'it's a simple scene but do not confuse it as easy'. Indeed, it is not.
An other beautiful landcape I love this atmosphere. Well done Lois and thank you for showing your process with us. Laura from France 🙂🌈🖌
Thanks Lois, this was really helpful. I’ve been painting in watercolour for a few years and my view is that anyone who thinks they can paint perfectly from watching one tutorial is very wrong indeed. Your tutorials are excellent and I’m very grateful for them.
Had a lot of fun doing this. Mine turned out like distant mountains with an angry sea in the foreground. Always fun to see what will happen with loose techniques and big strokes. Really a great way to help relax the mind and body. Thank you! April
Sounds great!😊
As usual, Lois, you have created a tiny masterpiece. All that is required is practise, practise, practise, for years and years! People who complain about your videos just don't get it.
Thanks so much for the tip about using two layers of tape! I'm looking forward to trying it and to see if my paper will actually dry flat. I love the simplicity of your technique too.
Hello Lois!! Beautiful Sky!! Love it!! Thank You Always!! Please have a Wonderful Day and Weekend!!❤
@@jackiemarsh2470 thanks Jackie!😀
Love the colours. You are right we learn by mistakes. I paint in twos and one works better than the other and mostly second one is more successful. I have also chosen to paint a bit smaller and am now increasing in size! Really enjoy these videos
I love the purple in the sky. Always beautiful artwork.
@@DenDen-pv9jc thanks so much! 😀
If you want to learn anything, you have to try and do it several times until you get used to it, and the results will definitely get better and better. I love your videos and the way you teach. Thank you so much for sharing!!❤❤
I've loved all of the videos you have made. As you say practice is paramount, just as with any skill you hope to learn. I do not copy your work stroke by stroke, but put my own spin on the art using your examples as a guide...thank you so much for the guidance you give in your top class videos.
Absolutely stunning. Love it! Am going to try this just for fun…
Thank you for the lesson. I appreciate it.
Powerful and beautiful. Thank you for the inspiration.

Sorry to hear that people were complaining about your videos. I bet they don't support you with either buying your books or your Pateron page.
Thanks William! 😊
