Locking Dif in the rear will massively help and the idle on the chainsaw is high - saw blade shouldn't move at idle. Excellent job bringing the ranger back to life, enjoy watching your channel!👍
Not sure if you know but the front guard on chain saw moved back & forward to lock the blade, should start it in locked position to avoid getting cut, can also lock it while working so you can keep it running :)
@@leebenson4874 and get chaps - chainsaws and angle grinders are such dangerous tools to just go out and use without watching a video or being taught first.
Howdy neighbor! (Black Creek) Just a little help for ya when soldering... place your iron under the wire and heat the wire. When the temp of the wire is just right, the solder will flow throughout the wire making a solid connection. Heat travels up the wire quickly so you want to be careful not to over do it and possibly damage switches or other electronics. Solder Flux also helps. My kid and I love your vids and can't wait for the new episodes!
I use flux paste, have my iron around 650-700 farenheit, get a good amount of solder on the tip, and melt it into the wires - always works. Need the proper wide tip though
You can use the length of the bar to make your cuts a more consistent length. Also check the brake it should stop the chain from spinning. Saw may need a replacement chain clutch. That is a great price for that saw.
It appears that you got a good deal after all. I had some doubts in the beginning. If I were you I would use that Ranger to pack down the snow where you want to end up plowing. Cause once it’s packed down and refreezes you should be able to plow without the plow digging into the ground or whatever. I do the same thing on my gravel driveway for the first 2 - 4 inches of snow.
Hi: I enjoy watching your videos. My younger brother was a heavy equipment and forklift mechanic, like you he is very mechanically enclined. My background is forestry, I can tell you haven't used a chainsaw much, I would recommend you get yourself a set of chaps to protect your legs. Don't be afraid to use the front of the bar instead of cutting with the back of the bar. There is a good reference book called "the Cutting edge", which all about the use of a chainsaw, safety and felling trees etc. I noticed you were getting your bar pinched a lot of times, if you start your cut underneath and then finish on top you won't get jammed as much. It has to do with compression and tension.(covered in the cutting edge book). Happy New Year.
Joe I’ve been with you and “The Chuckster” for at least 6 years. I’m a devout fan but please get an atv/utv stand/lift and save your back. We need you to keep on entertaining us.
Exciting video for us wanna be mechanics who watches to learn. I have a larger atv when I plough and got to say that a heavy duty blade makes all the difference in the world.

So to get that mig welder to ground you put the lead to the outside of the differential case? If so you need to step back and think about the grounding path that was used and just how bad that is on bearings. Never use a welder by grounding from your weld point to anything that needs to move. Be it a ball joint, hinge, ballbearing, splined shaft and so on.
You should get a spreader for the back of your ranger, sand/salt your driveway, and spread seed/ fertilizer on ur lawn and property. Maybe put some screw in studs/ machine screws with flatout in your tires.
loving the content! will you do a video of all the quads you currently have including the storage unit? i have probably watched every video you have made and im curious to which quads you still have. you should do another video on the street bike 3 wheeler (if you still have it) and make the swing arm better. that thing was awesome!😂
I've watched other ATV snowplow videos, and I think your vehicle would work better on those plowing job better with some wheel chains put on. Just sayin.....It's a great vehicle, and your repairs makes it an investment, if you look to sell it in the future. Great video, looks like the machine runs flawlessly. Thanks.
As a guy who fixes stuff everyday. Some of the little things you do, drive my OCD crazy. In the end you figure it an and are getting the results you want, so good on you and keep it up. I would say that anytime you can run a connector like a weather pack, it will help you if you ever need to swap it out. I had built a full suspension sand rail and thought I was smart and soldered every connection thinking that there is no was the wiring will ever be an issue. Joke was on me first ride hit a limb and broke my light. Lol time to cut the wires.
Not sure if this hint was mentioned earlier by viewers but I would keep an eye on the shaft seal near where you welded the nut onto the shaft, it may have melted with the welding heat. Just a suggestion.
@@M.TTT. It sucks, been there done that but it is just a bit more labor on your part but do it before the diff is damaged due to lack of lubricant not much in there in the first place. All the best for the New Year.
@@haroldwonder446 yeah, I've had to do the one on my truck's transfer case twice I think due to lack of experience first time I did it, but its nice having no oil leaks. Happy New Year to you as well.
Hats off to you for being able to weld in a confined space like that. My fumble fingered backyard shade tree butt would have the whole assembly welded up tight. LOL
Good job on welding the nut on the broken shaft to remove it. All that heat probably distorted your shaft seal. You can also see it was leaking before too. You were already in there to replace that seal. I have a feeling your going to be removing that axle again.
Love seeing the Vinnie dog photo bombing the vid..... really loving the content but one suggestion... parts washer would love to see you clean things a little better when you year down an engine
I went straight to the comments to see how many people were screaming at the computer about putting a new seal in. To my surprise there's not very many. The worst thing about doing the weld method instead of the drill and tap for the extraction is the heat that is put to the rubber of the seal causing it to vulcanize and not be a supple. Hopefully it doesn't leak or you'll be repeating this whole process. Good job overall though👍
Joe long time subscriber love the channel and would like you to keep your limbs. Please watch a video on chainsaw safety. You should have that chain brake engaged whenever moving and never have you upper body and head in the kickback zone. I used to build loghomes, accidents just take a second.
You should look into the solder seal butt connectors. I use them all the time along with the the water tight wire connectors you can get 2pin or 3, 4, 5 w.e you need off amazon and it works great. It just makes soldering wires and stuff easier and faster than have to get out a solder iron all you need is a lighter and you have a water tight soldered connection without have to put heat shrink on to.. 2 in one process..
I've always used the crimp ones with heatshrink, but have had some where I didn't crimp enough. Never trusted the solder-seal ones, but have you had any that have been installed for years with no issue?
Joe man you really should've slid on some heat shrink to cover up those three soldier joint connections to help prevent corrosion after smreaming on A little bit of electric dilute grease over the soldiered joints to keep them sealed in good. You can still do it like they are.,or clip them.& Redo it all. The faster way is leave them on. And add everything to it.
Great job joe great machines these you will find yourself using it more often as they are great for a multitude of jobs vinny was well impressed 😂😂 take care mate all the best 🔧🔧🔧👍❤️
I have the same Ranger. It will get stuck in the deep stuff especially with the flat bottom skid plate. You can keep your plow angled and about a foot high so you won’t get hung up in the deep snow. I also learned real fast that you don’t try to drive over a pile you just plowed unless you intended to rotate your tires LOL
Going by what I saw in your garage, (I couldn't see the saw's chain/blade at idle while you were using it), your chainsaw's carb needs adjustment. It has a high speed, low speed mixture screws and an idle speed screw. Love Stihl chainsaws. I have a Husky, but my son has a Stilhl MS290 Farm Boss. Waiting for a carb diaphragm so I can get it running correctly again. Stihl makes quality equipment. Set your idle low enough that the chain jus stops moving, then go one fourth of a turn further (slower) and you're all set.
👏Congrats, on having the knowledge and ability to buy something that needs a little work and fixing it up vs having to buy brand new 🤣Moving so fast loading wood you reminded me of myself
Pretty sure you could have also taken the CV axle out of the other side and found something to pound it through I've done that on rear differential before.

Gotta learn those pinch points on the saw. Nothing worse than getting a saw stuck. When it's leaning on something you gotta come from the underside
he should get some chainsaw chaps as well, all it takes is one moment of not thinking enough.
