      Shadow position is not information that can be used to decide a persons position. If you take into account player appeals on the call you make or might make, like the one you referenced on the David Villa penalty shoutout. Then, you are basically incentivizing embellishment. Do you understand how that is bad?

  • @BTheBlindRef
    @BTheBlindRef 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    The moving ball case was fine. The player clearly placed his hand on the ball to stop it, meaning the restart was unambiguous to everyone, and he gained no advantage from the tiny bit of remaining movement on the ball. At that point, the incredibly small amount of movement remaining is trifling and doesn't violate any of the reasons why that part of the rules exists in the first place. The rules clearly state that referees should avoid calling trifling offenses, and that would have absolutely qualified as one.

    • @Revelian1982
      @Revelian1982 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you. If you nitpick every single thing in the game, you're the kind of referee everyone would hate, because you'd be stopping the game, and pulling everything back every thirty seconds. Technically, one in every eight throw-ins is a foul throw, but they don't get noticed. I can't remember the last time a keeper held onto the ball for longer than six seconds and had an indirect free-kick awarded against them. There are some things that you just let go, for the flow of the game, and so that people know you're not a complete douche who wants to be the center of attention.

Just a natural reaction, I guess. Once he remembered that he was not playing a football match, and that he was standing in his friend's garden at a barbecue, surrounded by scores of people who were staring at him in disbelief, he got up rather quickly with an embarrassed look on his face.

    The Red Bull against Columbus thing was a clear penalty.
    FIFA's rules nowadays takes intention into consideration.
    The defenders intention was clearly to stop the Red Bull's player from reaching the ball.
    The defender started the tackle inside the box and even though he hit the other player outside of the box, the ball was inside the box and if the attacker hadn't been tackled, he would have been able to go for the ball.
    So, tackle started in the box, hit the player outside the box yet by doing this, prevented player from reaching the ball which was in the box.
    Penalty.

    The penalty outside the box that was called started inside the goal box. In the law book it mentions that if a defender
    starts holding an attacker outside the box but continues inside the box then the referee must give a penalty.

    • @Revelian1982
      @Revelian1982 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's just not true. Show me the law that states that. You're completely wrong. If you're running into the box, but you're just outside it when I start grabbing your arm, then you fall inside the box, that's not a penalty - it's a free kick.

      Law 12: "A tackle or challenge that endangers the safety of an opponent or uses excessive force or brutality must be sanctioned as serious foul play."

He's been a bad ref since at LEAST 2011, and the fact that he is allowed to continue making poor decisions in MLS just shows how much of a joke refereeing in the US is. Any player that falls to the ground like a Neymar and no foul should be red carded and thrown from that game and the following game.

      Because players are allowed to stop. There is no rule that says "if you are running, you have to keep running so you don't get hit from behind". You are allowed to stop any time you want, and the impetus is on the other player to be in control of his body so that he can react to such a stop and not run a guy over like an out of control semi truck.

      Because the referees are a bit more savvy when it comes to making the decision. They know, for the most part, when players are trying it on. I am curious, why dont the MLS have relegation, and promotion from the lower tier, like every other top division

    • @Revelian1982
      @Revelian1982 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      There are a number of reasons:
      1) Not enough teams.
      2) They're trying to grow the sport and develop serious fan bases around the country. Were they to relegate a team, the fear is that that team would lose a lot of its following.
      3) The stigma of relegation hurts the American psyche. It's considered something only losers would do, and Americans want to be amazing at everything.

    • @gritnix
      @gritnix 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      And don't forget money. An incredible amount of money is needed by the original investors to start a new team, and if they know they could immediately go down at the end of the season, they would never agree to the risk. I agree though, relegation would be great. Bring up USL teams and let LA Galaxy play in some little sweat box, let a little USL club go play in those big parks. It'd be great.

      You need to keep watching the Premier League, fam. Spanish League is just a bunch of diving, cheating bastards, who would rather win by getting opponents sent off than by outclassing them with the ball. Everyone hates the Spanish league now, because they've seen it for what it is. The Premier League is more entertaining, more competitive and more honourable.

    USA at football or as they call it "soccer" and it's true I mean have you ever seen them get anywhere in the World Cup

    • @Revelian1982
      @Revelian1982 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Look, I'm all for the America-bashing, but you've got to get your facts straight. "Soccer" is an English term. It's an abbreviation of the word "Association". In England, there is more than one kind of football, so to differentiate between the codes, "Association Football" was given to what you and I call "football", hence the name "Football Association" or with FIFA, "Federation Internationale de Football Association". If you're going to pretend you're all high and mighty about football, this is a basic fact that you're going to need to get right, otherwise Americans (some of whom ARE actually quite knowledgeable) will rip you to shreds.
      As for getting anywhere in the World Cup, you need to make sure you're not going to end up eating your words one day, because our precious little England has only won in once, and that was with two goals in the final that shouldn't have been allowed. I don't know how old you are, but there was a time when English people would take the piss out of the Spanish and the French for not ever winning a World Cup, yet look at them now, with one and two wins respectively. My point is that time changes a lot of things, and when you look at the USA, and how football, and the public's interest in football, is increasing at an exponential rate, if you couple that with the investment in infrastructure that will now be happening with the awarding of the Canusamex World Cup in 2026, then it's a recipe for eventual success.
      I just don't want you to end up looking like a bit of an idiot if the USA DOES win the World Cup in the next twenty years, because I for one won't be surprised at all, should that happen.

    who cares if his HAND IS IN A natural position im english if it touches his hand its handball

    • @mbkincaid1
      @mbkincaid1 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Handling the ball involves a deliberate act of a player making contact with the ball with the hand or arm.
      The following must be considered:
      the movement of the hand towards the ball (not the ball towards the hand)
      the distance between the opponent and the ball (unexpected ball)
      *the position of the hand does not necessarily mean that there is an offence*

    Simon borg is clearly anti Seattle, but I’m shocked he vouched for Alonso. He is right that he won the ball clearly. Then he goes back to his selective viewing with the elbow to the face. Yes, it should have been a yellow, but they did not give a yellow. Also, a much lighter contact resulted in a yellow for Leerdam only moments earlier. And the fact it wasn’t even given as a foul in favor of Seattle is atrocious. Stop with the yelling Borg, it’s so annoying. Or don’t, I don’t care. You’re the reason I watch less and less of these videos.

    • @Donovanlefferts
      @Donovanlefferts 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @Revelian1982
      @Revelian1982 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Donovan is right, Alex. When it comes to absolute basics around the laws of the game, it's ISN'T about opinions. It's about facts. And this Borg person is demonstrating a lack of knowledge and an inconsistency that means he really shouldn't be making these videos.

    Start at 2:30...... attacking player is tripped up outside the field of play at 3:30. Right?
    According to Law 12: FOULS OFF THE PITCH (when the ball is still in play)
    "When there is a foul OUTSIDE the field of play, a free kick is awarded on the boundary line nearest to the location of the foul. And if it's within the penalty area of the offending team, then it's a penalty".
    OK Great. The ball was still in play when the foul occurred, as it was still on the pitch.......
    But the foul at 3:00 was not within the penalty area as both opponents were off the pitch when the foul occurred.. If they were off the pitch when defending penalty area, how can the restart be a penalty kick? The penalty mark isn't even on or near the boundary line.
    Did the ref get it wrong or is the announcer wrong about the restart area.
    IMO the ref and the announcer can not both be right....Thanks

    • @gritnix
      @gritnix 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think the foul was actually that at the end of the slide, the defender used his hand to grab the lower leg of the attacker. That was the trip. This happened outside the field of play. The ball, being in play, means it is a foul. A foul outside the field of play is considered to have happened at the boundary line closest to the foul. In this case, that point on the boundary line is where they just crossed, and that boundary line is part of the penalty area. Therefore, the foul is considered to have happened inside the penalty area. This is why it's a penalty kick.

    lmao this is why the MLS is a joke. I mean many of these are very poor calls by the referee, and would never happen in Europe
