Kakashi Hatake Man I watched the last episode today of DS2 LP, and the only reason was so I could see what they would do together next time (if anymore woolie/pat combos).
Personally I liked those 2 LP'ing, but DS2 was just a bad choice (for me) because what LP channel out there hasn't played dark souls.

Yes! I fucking *despise* the fuck out of the FF13 trilogy. If it was FF13 by itself, then I would've been fine with it. It's not my favorite by far, but it actually had interesting characters. But, holy fucking shit, did they turn it into a Lightning circle jerk. If they actually took the time to develop characters, they might've actually had something! But, nope! Gotta have my mini-skirt wearing soldier of the goddess of the guardian of the galaxy be the focus of... just have her be the focus!
Hope is the worst along with Lightning. Just a whiny bitch and a Frigid bitch. They both suck. The best one, if we're just going for attitude, is Snow. Just pumped up Hero-material. "See these bad guys over there? I'm gonna punch them in the face and save the day! YEAH!" Not the best character, but I like him in the game along with Zaz (can't remember how to spell it.)

I love this video, one of the main and many reasons you guys are my favorite youtubers is videos like this, clear opinions, in depth discussions, analysis on many levels, and not afraid of showing genuine love for things you love, no bullshit.
Its not about reviews its about showing what makes a game good and what makes it fail in the eyes of someone who truly plays and absorbs them, and actual fan of video games.
I absolutely _despise_ how often people say Bioshock Infinite is "groundbreaking" or "special". They weren't the first to do time travel *OR* parallel universes, and anyone who knows _shit_ about either of those things knows it literally breaks the laws of physics. And as you guys said, the combat was nothing special. So is it amazing? No. Is it bad? No. Is it overhyped? Absolutely.
Like a resounding "meh" can be heard as a reaction to so many games these past few years.

Trey Davis I think Steins;Gate approaches it the best. You can't strait up change time, you can jump into a different reality, but then whats the fucking point? With infinite realities, there's always going to be that event where you die, or that one where everyone you love is dead. You can't just remove that possible universe from reality as a whole.
That and the entire game was about infinite universes and infinite possibilities.
So Booker killing himself (I don't give a shit about spoilers) does nothing to stop the events of the game from happening in the past or present.
So basically the next members of the Best Friend Zaibatsu are matt's wife and woolie's brother, woolie's brother being key because he is the final keystone that will unleash RAGE upon the world.

liam just breaking down and yelling 'fuck!' like seven times in a row in the last 30 or so seconds is one of the most enjoyable sbfp moments in a while, because liam got a little salty and all was glorious.
I'm actually glad you waited a year for 2013, serves as a nice reminder for the games I might've forgot last year. Hope this becomes tradition.

BUT WHAT WOULD MY COMMENTS BE WITHOUT A WELL THOUGHT OUT COMPLAINT?
I like the XIII series (don't scroll down hear me out!) but I always hated everyone except sazh and maybe lightning in the first game but you guys say that she lacks a personality and doesn't "crack wise" but thats actually one of my complaints about XIII-3. She cracks a LOT of jokes in LR, its just that her voice is so damn deadpan you can hardly tell she just cracked a joke. I actually kinda got some Devil May Care-ish vibes out of her in LR which was kinda cool.
But I agree on that ending , that ending was so bad it flatout ruined the game for me. Especially when you realize that its a terrible ripoff of Persona 3's ending. It should have had a dark ending where Lightning is trapped in that dark abyss with God and her dwindling sanity but NOPE. They fucked it up.
My problem with Lightning isn't her, it is Square deciding to make her a god for literally no reason.
I've never played any FF other than Tactics and GameCube's Crystal Chronicles, but when I heard that FF 13 was a corridor and you only press X and win, which I thought it was a joke.
Then this one day my gf was playing the second one, goes away and tells me "Can you keep going? Just press X". And to my amusement, I just pressed X when it said and I beat the monster/guy/thing. SO IT WAS TRUE ALL ALONG!
Thats what SO BAD is Lightning's american VO IS A REALLY GOOD VOICE ACTOR, listen to her as lightning, and then go and pick literally any line of dialogue palutena says in kid icarus uprising, square's voice director is terrible at their job, to be fair, im comparing this against treehouse which is probably the best localization team in the game industry but still.
there no problem in liking XIII( but i don't) as long as you know what wrongs are in the game. for an example i like spider man 2( not the amazing SM one)

I didnt realize how much I enjoyed these before now, but ripping TMNT a new asshole before was pretty fun.
Bioshock was great in part because its major twist was, at the same time, a criticism of game stories: The standard FPS protagonist has shaky motivations because the player will do whatever is on the objective screen without thinking about it. The "would you kindly" switcheroo highlights this problem in a novel way as part of a story that holds up whether or not you catch the underlying meaning. I hear Spec Ops: The Line did something similar after game devs completely ignored the message (though I never played it myself).
When I played Infinite, I could tell it was trying to do something similar: Throughout the game, the player is presented with a series of incredibly binary choices that wind up changing nothing, and this seemed like a Take That against the morality systems and arbitrary choices that got shoved into a lot of games prior to Infinite (although I can't think of any off the top of my head). And I think the greater multiverse timefuck narrative of Infinite was supposed to set that up or play off of it somehow; problem was, it just didn't work. The whole game really feels like a collection of stellar ideas that just refused to fit together, and after so many years of development Irrational had to just string them together and release while they still could. That might be why the political and time-travel halves are so separated, and why the combat just feels like an afterthought.

With Bioshock Infinite I saw the twist coming right away. Before I even played the game I figured out who Booker was. The thing is, I don't think the ending was there to surprise you. It was there to show how much Elizabeth had grown to understand everything.

Not only was Bioshock 2 way better in regards of gameplay, but it was actually a better father/daughter story than Bioshock: Infinite. And I didn't put spoilers for Booker being Elizabeth's father because I figured it out even before the game came out.

Bioshock infinite is one of my favorite games. For me, it was better than bioshock but that's probably because I have a short attention span and tend to play games with guns blazing. But now that Matt mentioned it, I think this game would have heavily benefited from having some puzzles.

Bioshock: Infinite was just bad to me, ugh. Despite how much the tumblr crowd love it the casual racism involved is so bad. Like treating the oppression of black people at the turn of the century, including Lynch Mobs, as an interactive game.
First of all, who disagrees that the 19th Century was a racist time? No one. Depicting it isn't brave or shocking. It's fetishistic, making you a tourist in a terrible time. Second of all, they show you this insane oppression and make you sympathize with the Vox Populi, then turn that around in the second alternate universe for some stupid lesson over "yesterday's oppressed are tomorrow's oppressors" or some bullshit. Like that was infuriating and disgusting and no one in their right mind wants to see the good guys get turned into PURE EVIL for the sake of a cheap lesson.
The story was stupidly shallow, the gameplay was below average (same tired shooting mechanics from like 2006), and it jsut rode bareback on the Bioshock name fuck Infinite.

I don't think they intended it to be "brave or shocking". The game just takes place in a time where racism was prevalent, so they probably thought about throwing it in to show how Columbia, a country that cut itself lose from the USA to be "free" and shit still treated black people as subhumans.

But yeah, it felt cheap. Especially since you get the same reward for both decisions.

I found the game play sub-par, if only because of that only 2 weapon nonsense. The story wasn't anything special, but I loved the world. As for the Vox Populi being good guys, I never thought that. Just because you fight evil doesn't mean you are good, two evil parties can have competing interests. And that crazy kill em all mentality was the attitude of the Socialist and Anarchist radicals of that time period (hell, even some of them now). So it never bothered me, in fact I expected it, but I'm a cynic who studied history in college.

Regarding the rant on the Hobo scene for Beyond Two Souls: there was actually a part they missed by using Aiden to look at specific objects around her hospital room. One newspaper article explains how the hobos sued those bullies (who Jodie beats up) for setting fire to the abandoned apartment they gave birth to that baby in. The reason they were well off was because they won the lawsuit and thus changed their lives.
But that doesn't excuse poor story telling...

I swear, I played Bioshock Infinite and I enjoyed it. Yeah, it wasn't my goty (Shoutouts to Reveangance) but I still enjoyed it. I found the combat fun, but certainly not groundbreaking and I thought the story was rather interesting (Even if it wasn't the best take on the whole Time Travel/Paradox thing). I swear if feels like no one could just ENJOY the game for what it was, it's either insane love or rabid hate, and I just don't get either. It's like "Too much racism!" or "It didn't go far enough!" or "I hate the gameplay!" or "It's too violent! It ruins everything!" I mean, FUCK, am I the only one who just thought it was a solid 7.5 game that wasn't amazing, but wasn't terrible? Am I the minority?
The problem with the racism was that it didn't portray real racism accurately (it was too cartoonish) and there was too much of the author's own personal racial biases (i.e, the transformation of the Vox Populi into the antagonists)
Yeah, I agree that the racism was done, without mincing words, badly. Although, with the Vox Populi I have to disagree. I felt that they were trying to show that extremism, whether for the right or wrong reasons, can only lead to wanton death and anarchy. I didn't really get a sense of racial bias there. (I do agree that overall, the racism angle could've been done MUCH better)

Personally I didn't hate the first FF13 (obviously it wasn't great but shit was nice to look at and listen to at least) and haven't played the other two but it always seems like there is a consensus on these games being bad. Apparently not.

And you are right about FF13 being positive. If you look on metacritic it has generally favorable user reviews of 7.5 (from 2100+ people). Gamespot users has 8.2 (From 11,000+ people) and IGN users has 8.5 (6600+ people).
Direct sequels 13-2 and LR are much more mixed being in the 6.0-7.2 range with said, but those are just sub series games.

Because one of the two enemies you're talking about (the turtles and the spiked giants) can be tackled in multiple ways, and both of them can be attacked however you want after you weaken them first.

Because the DMC franchise built itself on styling on any enemy you can in any way, with any weapon, in any style of fashion. Then Ninja Theory blatantly said to us, "Fuck You" to our faces.
With W101, basically you are keeping certain playable characters relevant, and the remaining hype of the game made up for it. It's blatantly a sentai trope, you can't have a series just focused on the Red Ranger...

I enjoyed watching this video a lot. Not because it was just the Best Friends ranting about bad games, but a semi-academic conversation about how they were bad (or at least in this case how they were a let down) and how they could have done better. I like to in a way study games and would like to watch more videos like this, though it doesn't have to be Best Friends.

Mr Slice The story was bad, the gameplay was bad. The characters were nothing. The level design was really unimpressive, the music was offensive to my ears.

Every time they bash God of War a piece of me dies. The games arent as good as other character action games sure. But the absolute power you wield in the games, the stylish moves, the gore, were all great. I have a lot of nostalgia, being twelve and tearing my first undead soldier in half is a memory i will not forget. They weren't fantastic objectively, but they weren't horrible either.
***** But they've never said they're horrible either. They don't consider them character action games, and don't like them as much as those, but they've said many times that they're fine. They've only made fun of Kratos a lot of times.

ginganinja714 Yep, you basically summed my issues with the God of War franchise. At first, I thought of Kratos as an acceptional character to the Greek Mythos, but at the end of GoW2, was where I said, "KRATOS, YOU F!CKING EDEOT!!!"
Tony Davis I guess the point of his character is that he's not a hero. He might not even be a villain. But even the developers themselves said that by the time Zeus falls, there is no happy ending. Kratos wins, and that's that.
ginganinja714 I get that he is between the anit hero and the anti villain. But that one thing just made me throw my hands saying that was stupid, stupid, STUPID! I get that revenge was in his motive, but when he (I) beaten the third fate, I was at a place where it was like time travel, but the fates judge what happens, who lives and who dies, which would mean Kratos has the ability to save his family. BUT NO! He goes for his stupid quest for revenge plot after Zeus. That was when I found Kratos to be so full of his anger that his justification is now meaningless. Yes, he got rid of (almost) most of the greek gods so that humanity can live in a world without the gods influence hampering their shit society. GoW is a good franchise by all means, but those small intentions just left a bad taste in my mouth.

Trey Davis I expected that they changed it to a $60 game for a reason. Turns out there wasn't. Not nearly enough content, nor was it memorable enough. Gameplay was solid though. I didn't expect low grav to be such a game changer.

Trey Davis Could you be more specific when you say "games like Borderlands"? Because in my opinion, the Borderlands series is pretty damn special. A 4 player coop shooter with light rpg elements, thrown in with some witty humor and some terrible humor. It's not perfect, but its at least fun in it's own right. And Tales from the Borderlands is really good so far, in case you were wondering.
