How about making it a writer's/artist's retreat. Patrons and governments could sponsor funds for them to stay and create there. Or a meditation/monastic style retreat. It's gorgeous.
Rewatching this and reminded how remarkable your family is! Instead of giving in and giving up, your family purchased another estate, works so hard to make it work! Appreciate y'all, so very, very much, for your dedication and honor of your heritage and country! 🌿💙
I love this idea of a kind of cottage where I can go and be quiet and write for about a week or so. I can be pretty self-sufficient with coffee, internet and maybe a take-away packed lunch or dinner???? I love the idea of the privacy, but can reach the house if necessary. But the quiet and internet would be great - don't even need a phone. Maybe don't even need internet - I can just type and save on the computer. I wouldn't mind no access to email AT ALL!!!
Yes. It's perfect. I would think there would be a great interest in it. The way Masterpiece entices us Americans with idyllic TV shows like All Creatures Great and Small and Downton etc., there is such an interest in the beauty of England whether it's a grand manor or a cottage in the countryside. Excited to see what happens with that building!
I missed the old barn so I’m rewatching, I came in Luke was deworming the sheep. I did have to laugh, I have a horse I know all about deworming lol. I’m 5’2 on a good day my horse 16.3 hands and it’s a clown show lol. Beautiful old barn I’d go for barn camping. When I was a Girl Scout at summer camp, we hiked to a barn for a camp out. Cooking egg & bacon in a brown paper bag over a open campfire for breakfast. Luke if you try breakfast in a brown bag you cook the bacon first then the egg lol. (lunch size brown bags) 🇺🇸
You should definitely do something with that place, it's such a shame to stay like that! I bet you can make miracles with it! I will be here to follow the evolution! xx
I could easily live out there in the old barn once it is fixed up. The beauty and quiet would be amazing. A garden, lots of books to read, long walks and two cats and a dog for company- heaven on earth!!!
Your valley is breathtakingly beautiful through the camera lens. I can only imagine what it is like in person. The afternoon light is so beautiful, it would be a perfect end to the day. So peaceful. I imagine too the freshness of the air, no pollution. Wonderful.
Excellent idea 💡!!!! The inside of the roof is just gorgeous!!! ... Us strange Americans would Love it!!!! And Pay good money for the opportunity!!!! Best of luck!! ✨😁🙏💫
Love the idea of restoring the ancient barn. I think there would be a lot of interest in holding retreats on that part of the estate too! It is absolutely gorgeous.
I like how Julie, just dives right in. You know she could be afraid of spiders, snakes, dust, cobwebs, and not go in the barn at all. :0) You show em Julie. I'd have done the same.
Maybe some a light tube or skylite to bring some light inside. I think insulating the floor and ceiling might be enough if the stonework is restored and pointed. I want some Le Chameau wellies and I found them on Amazon!
Why not great a place where artists, musicians and writers can come to create in a beautiful and inspiring location? The peaceful, beautiful countryside lends itself to creative endeavors.
This ancient barn is a project I will be keeping a close eye on. We have an old stone barn that is similar to this (but slightly smaller and not as old, just about 120 years I think) and I would love to see what you do with yours because we've also been thinking about making ours livable. Although tbh, it would probably take us a decade to finish it a little at a time.
Looks a lovely location, but if you have water and electricity it is not really off grid, more like off the beaten track. Milk from the farm would be a problem I presume it is not pasteurised. I love the Jacobs, it reminds me of someone I used to work with and she had a herd of them.
So fun. That would actually be a great place to visit for a short stay. OK, another project idea: make a small airplane grass strip with a little hangar. Come on, someone in the family must want to fly a little Cub type plane. Oooh, learning to fly program on the estate. By pure coincidence, I'm finishing my flight instructor certificate. :)
🇨🇦 Oh my goodness that valley is just breathtaking ❣️ I like Darren and Raymond, hope we see more of them. I think turning this beautiful little cottage in to an off grid holiday let a fabulous idea! I fell in love with it, especially the age, 1600’s, imagine❤️. I look forward to seeing the progress.
What a lovely visit to the barn do up I look for Saar day to the updates those views just stunning a retreat away from the bustle of life love the banter with Luke and Julie 😍❤️Off to treat the ewes the ladies strong hardworking love how Luke and Julie just get in there helping out wherever they can and with light hearted humour highlight of my week Thankyou as always❤️😍👌
You guys should invite time team, you never know what use would discover. Raymond could be onto something about people living on the land 🤔 most settlements where next to water ...
I watched Indie Projects remake an old stone barn in central Portugal into a wonderful living space. Raising and straightening the walls to make it high enough for standing (as long as you already have to replace the failing roof!) is a great way to maximize its potential! I’m excited to watch your progress!
Luke said before want to enjoy more quiet life, out with a cup of tea when retired in countryside, that off grid barn fit that idea. Nice little barn to visit
That valley is beautiful. Would love to explore it. The cottage would be expensive to upgrade but what a quaint home it could become. Much potential....
The Indie Projects have restored a very similar barn. They have videos the whole process. It might give you some good ideas for your own barn. You're a great couple.
Wow, you make drenching hard work! Get yourselves a race with gates at each end and then all you need to do is run them in, close the rear gate and walk from one end to the other drenching each one in turn. When you've finished all the sheep in the race, let them out the front gate into a holding pen. Simple! If you build it right, you can also use it for drafting them when it's time to ween or you want to split the flock. Make your lives easier and safer if you're away from those horns!
It would make for a Great honeymoon suite after having their wedding up at the main house.))) Ya’s could also offer hot air balloon rides with the wedding packages to enjoy the views of all of Mapperton. The nature adventurists would Love them too.))) I’d pay for it to be part of My package staying their.))) Love you guys!))) Thank you for sharing. Jacqueline
Looks like you may want to add support under the downhill side of that barn. It looks as if it will continue it's slow crawl into the valley otherwise... :)
Where is the road to get to this place? Does Dorset get enough sunshine hrs for solar panels to provide hot water & electrics? Could wind turbines help with this.
Do you think it would be possible to pull fresh water from the stream or a well directly into the structure? That might make the house more comfortable, but you might need a gray water leach-field for the sink and shower drains.
Only trouble with those Wellingtons are the cost (Good Lord: 200 Pounds), and the shoe size goes up to XL only. I could never fit into them, since I wear a size 15 shoe size. & EE width.
The rolling green hills are amazing , at night you can look at the stars it’s perfect
How about making it a writer's/artist's retreat. Patrons and governments could sponsor funds for them to stay and create there. Or a meditation/monastic style retreat. It's gorgeous.
Fab ideas!!!!!
No, don't get on the tires... "Why? Do you think they're going to pop?!?" Hahahahahahaha 🤣🤣🤣
Still 🤣Laughing from Luke saying - "Julie wants to do
Yoga from that Beam."‼️
Rewatching this and reminded how remarkable your family is! Instead of giving in and giving up, your family purchased another estate, works so hard to make it work! Appreciate y'all, so very, very much, for your dedication and honor of your heritage and country! 🌿💙
I’m saving my front row seat , leaving my coat 🧥 and purse 👜 on the chair 🥰 set reminder everyone !
Oh, nice coat. I think I take it......Tamar 4272 is no where around. 😜
Luke saying to the ewe That wasn't too bad = my kind of person 💙
Yes ! Restore, could be a place you can rent out like your guest house. I’ll be your first patron. The land on Mapperton is beyond beautiful.
It would make a nice guest house! I love your content Julie and Luke!

For sure restore it . It would look great. Use it for all sorts of things.
Love how the cellar turned out!
Yes. It's perfect. I would think there would be a great interest in it. Omg I love this! What a project as it will be a labor of love! Far From The Maddening Crowds!!
Raymond is always wonderful! Luke saying Julie went off-piste is the pot calling the kettle black. 😂
I missed the old barn so I’m rewatching, I came in Luke was deworming the sheep. I did have to laugh, I have a horse I know all about deworming lol. My favourite couple in England ❤️
I could live here! Certainly, I'm on the side of YES to the question of whether-or-not to restore. It's lovely, Julie!
Yes, for sure. Please keep us posted. I'm new here and enjoying this channel. Thanks for the history accounts and the laughs.
You should definitely do something with that place, it's such a shame to stay like that! I bet you can make miracles with it! I will be here to follow the evolution! xx

Spontaneous Julie! 😊
Kind spirited Raymond,
And witty Luke,
A great mix.
Your valley is breathtakingly beautiful through the camera lens. I can only imagine what it is like in person. The afternoon light is so beautiful, it would be a perfect end to the day. So peaceful. I imagine too the freshness of the air, no pollution. Wonderful.
Hello from a sunny and warm Georgia!
Good to see Raymond and Darren!! The ewes are beautiful. Well done Luke deworming them.Love from Vermont
Thankyou Julie and Luke for your awsome content.
I could see this as a hermitage for an artist.
What a beautiful cottage. The surrounding landscape!!!
I found Julie’s book for sale at Booktopia in Australia. It’s on its way to me!!
I sure would love to have a house on top of one of the hills overlooking that valley. What a view!
What a beautiful spot. Heavenly!! Good video!!! Thank you!!!
I like how Julie, just dives right in. You know she could be afraid of spiders, snakes, dust, cobwebs, and not go in the barn at all. :0) You show em Julie. I'd have done the same.
The landscape is perfectly gorgeous!
Wonderful old building, and STUNNING location!!
It would make a beautiful holiday let
since I started watching you, I can't get out of my mind the thought of Mappenton 😍
Off grid living perfect. I’m happy to book❤️❤️.
Deworming the ewes reminds me of All Creatures Great and Small. Good job Luke and Mapperton workers.
Yes! That’s a great idea
Thank you

This is a fantastic idea, so funny but informative...love this project!!

Whoa that sheep lady was all business. She was like “Get out of the way and let us get to it”. Maybe she had a time restraint
Looks a lovely location, but if you have water and electricity it is not really off grid, more like off the beaten track.
Milk from the farm would be a problem I presume it is not pasteurised.
I love the Jacobs, it reminds me of someone I used to work with and she had a herd of them.
Fresh milk from real pasture raised cows on a family farm like this should not be a problem to drink.
i can see it with cute little cottage windows with flower boxes, set of french doors where the barn doors at. ,it be so cute..

Thanks!
Hello from Denver , CO!
You guys should invite time team, you never know what use would discover. Raymond could be onto something about people living on the land 🤔 most settlements where next to water ...

Raising and straightening the walls to make it high enough for standing (as long as you already have to replace the failing roof!) is a great way to maximize its potential! I think it would be perfect for a silent meditation retreat.
"That would be misleading..." 😆😂🤣
Luke said before want to enjoy more quiet life, out with a cup of tea when retired in countryside, that off grid barn fit that idea. Nice little barn to visit
That valley is beautiful. Would love to explore it. The cottage would be expensive to upgrade but what a quaint home it could become. Much potential....
Do it! Google off the grid homes. I especially like bushcraft videos.
Cellar look like a great place for a $hi-fi system.. and a great place for Nester and friends.
The Indie Projects have restored a very similar barn. They have videos the whole process. It might give you some good ideas for your own barn.
You're a great couple.
Wow the fields are stuff of dreams.
I love your blouse and vest!
I would stay there for a few nights! How nice!!
I love Julie. Not many in the aristocracy would go climbing through old barns.
Wow, you make drenching hard work! If you can keep the look, do it
Great job with working on the roof!
😂at Luke deworming the sheep!
Lovely holiday let.
I’ve already laid it out in my mind! Love it!
You two are so wonderful keep on being you
Lovely , what a beautiful view xx
Sounds like a great thesis to me! Go for it!
What a great episode
The Cottage at Greenway! I need to have a getaway there!!!
It would make for a Great honeymoon suite after having their wedding up at the main house.)))
Ya’s could also offer hot air balloon rides with the wedding packages to enjoy the views of all of Mapperton. The nature adventurists would Love them too.))) I’d pay for it to be part of My package staying their.)))

Jacqueline
@George Appleton. What a Great idea!!! The honeymoon suite!!!!
You are such a lovely couple and so entertaining and informative
Great idea! Do it!
Looks like you may want to add support under the downhill side of that barn. It looks as if it will continue it's slow crawl into the valley otherwise... :)
I would live in this house too!
I would pat to stay there!
Well maybe I could be known as the French Marquis of Buritos
Oh you should contact Time Team and they could do archeological digs there. Who knows what treasures they could find and tell you more about Mapperton
Is all the land in the distance part of the estate around the little building?
So interesting. Wrestling the sheep was pretty intense.
The Viscount can now be the official ewe dotter!
You guys are too cute 💖🙏💖

Luke, really??? Cross your Is and dot your ewes? 😆
It would make for a great writer's retreat. You would rent it out to writers who need to get away from everything to write.
I wish Julie would just listen
Airbnb, anyone?
He looks good for 300
I have a question. I had a hip replacement December 15, 2021. How long should I wait before I try yoga?
Always best to talk to your doctor or physiotherapist!
@@MappertonLive thanks!
Mucky bottoms. lmao
Why does the beam say "David Fook"?
