    So basically, unless you're senior, the pay's not far off minimum wage. It's a fun job when you're young, but you need to balance that by remembering that you're not progressing in another career choice you might make that will start paying you more, and increase that pay more quickly. Better than a fast-food part-timer, and more fun. But no career to buy a house on your own and settle down on your own, unless you hang around till you're 50 and get the benefits of seniority (best rosters, much better pay, less need to provide good service to customers because you become untouchable, and service doesn't really matter on the main US airlines anyway). Service standards on US carriers are pretty abysmal, and low pay to juniors, and seniority benefits to seniors are the cause.

      You're saying its not a lot for a young person? Im 18, i kinda wanna be a flight attendant but im scared it wont pay me enough to have a good living

    • @NinoNiemanThe1st
      @NinoNiemanThe1st 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@negpos8369 Research the starting salaries at the US airlines - the majors aren't very high, the minors are as low as possible - not much above McDonalds. Mainly because it's designed as a fun, temporary job for new entrants, and there are always people who will give it a go, especially good looking younger people without much education. But remember the opportunity cost of working for an airline as cabin crew: if you're capable of going to college (not everyone wants to, or can afford to), the time you lose having fun on a low wage won't offset the earnings you will eventually make by going to college/university if you have the brains to do that. And not many junior flight attendants hang around until they get the seniority that pays better and lets them choose the most lucrative or socially easier rosters - it takes at least a decade, often more. By that time, they can often end up 'hard boiled' - hence the airline phrase 'Hawaii 50' for the old boilers on HNL trips. You have to be over 50 to get these trips when you want them on the majors, the service is shit, the cabin crew can be sanctimonious old bags, and some them barely fit between the aisles given their physical breadth lol! There are exceptions, but they can be some of the rudest people you'll ever meet in an alleged service industry - the majority of people don't want to end up like these old biddies and leave the airline industry well before they get to that stage. Good luck!

    • @lexismith8206
      @lexismith8206 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@NinoNiemanThe1st a lot of people graduate college with liberal arts degrees and end up in minimum wage jobs. Flight attendant pay isn’t terrible, you can work as many hours as you want monthly. Within 5 years, your pay would go up substantially. Considering that the job only requires a high school diploma and a few weeks of training, it’s not a bad trade off. Plus, you get to travel the world, it’s more about the experiences you gain and less about the money.

    • @NinoNiemanThe1st
      @NinoNiemanThe1st 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@lexismith8206 Yes, I agree, it's more about the fun and experiences and crew friends you meet, and they're great when you're young. But the experiences aren't so great if you're doing ATL-MCO daily (for example) taking entitled holiday tripper Karen families to Disneyland Orlando each day. And it's a really hard way to pay off your degree (if you have one) given the pay rates. Making the job long-term rewarding with a major onto long-haul international takes a serious amount of commitment - but by then, once you've got the job and your seniority, you can give up on the service and working hard and coast along until your hips don't fit down the aisle lol.

    Anytime minorities become the majority in a job sector the wages end up suppressed. Delta has so many minorities and that is why the wages are so low. Once the flight deck becomes more diverse you will see pilot wages suppress as well. The same thing happened with the post office and the big three automakers.
