Thank you so much for this! I'm a United ramp agent based in EWR and im transferring inflight! I go to Houston for training in the beginning of August :) I'm soooo excited for the job, but the one thing I was really stressed about was if I was going to be able to make ends meet! As a ramp agent, we get paid from the time we clock in to the time we clock out. We have a couple hourly overrides like FA's do, such as lead pay, night pay, holiday pay, and overtime, etc. But in general, its so much easier to calculate my take-home each month as a ramp agent than as a FA. So I was nervous that I was going to be making less when I transfer! But you've put my fears to rest. Thank you so much for breaking it down so well! Love from Jersey :)

I guess I understand why some feel it’s not that high of pay. But also, how many careers only require their employees to work 78-100 hours a month? A lot of jobs have people working 40-50 (if they get overtime) a week… So like, even $28.00 an hour is pretty good for a job that doesn’t require any type of degree or schooling. And doesn’t require you to work 160 hours a month to make a living wage. And, a pretty easy job at that. The biggest downside to me is not getting paid (much) for layovers or until the door is closed on the plane. Especially those who make between $30-$60 an hour - you’d be hard pressed to find that hourly pay rate anywhere else without advanced schooling or trade

That‘s only flight hours though not duty. I am a flight attendant at a European Airline and while it sounds all great to be paid for a certain amount of flight hours your duty day can be pretty long. For me it can be almost a 12 hr day but my flight hours are only 6 hours.

@@queenofsheba5846true, im sure we work way more than 160hours a month… its like we are not being paid while on the transport from/to the airport, also while the aircraft is in the ground we get nothing…

Thank you for the information. I thought about it but like $30 including langugage skills and diem doesn't sound too good for me. $1 extra for being purser. Shit on Lufthansa you'll get some hundred bucks more per month. My question is, how do flight attendants survive the first years if they dont live with their parents? With around 3000 net you cant even rent a house and buy food 😢

Okay SO I absolutely love my career but let me be honest. You don't get paid a livable income for the first 5 years. So you will have to fly as much as you can. Like on days off. If you are in a lot of debt and a big car payment and student loan, this isn't the job for you. It will take you YEARS to pay stuff off. I'm married now, so I call my husband my "sponser". That's the only way I'd do this job now, unlike when I was young and struggling on B scale. Now, I do it as a hobby. My check just gets put in our account and it's like spending money. I can fly as much or as little as I want. I'm also a lot older now and have been flying a long time, so you CAN get there. We also never had kids, so our lifestyle is pretty great! My advice is to go into this job with no debt, live at your base, and try not to have a car payment. At least for 5 years. 🎉
