Time travel itself can be hard to follow. Time travel with alternate dimensions brings a whole other level of complexity. One of my favorite things from the show is that Katherina end up as the "woman in the lake" that her children had been telling stories of.

Dark series also shown reincarnation as a quantum Immortality concept, Katherina died in first world and reborns in second World, she then died in second World during apocalypse but her soul remembers her suffering during the lost of Mikkel that's why she was hugging Mikkel during apocalypse, Peter died in first world and reborns in second World, that's why he was feeling like he have met Jonas, when Jonas first time came to his world, because he have given him therapy, Martha have also born in second World that's why she was saying that when I met you Jonas I felt I met you before, Magnus Does all time travel thing with Jonas and reborns in second World and that's why he was satisfied during Apocalypse of second World because he have done so much work so his soul was satisfied. Similarly Francisca also done so much work and reborns in second second World and she was not having voice because she disrespected her sister who can't speak and her soul was also satisfied during Apocalypse of second World. but Jonas born again in his own universe but in Scrodinger cat theory, quantum immortality, that's why he never born in second World because he was always present in his world, his soul never gone their to reborn. But they all reborn in third world through different parents and reunited. The paradise.
yes it may possible that quantum immortality concept of quantum physics can exist in real we just don't know that we are immortal and we will be become our Ulternate version of Scrodinger cat experiment, as Jonas felt something when he first read the letter of Martha, because he knows then only that The lines he said to real Martha can't be known by the Martha of other world. So it may be all version of all characters were past and future life of each other. And that is why he became Adam from Jonas.
There is also a hint given in episode 5 of season 2 that in staring scene Middle Jonas dreamed where he is with Teenage Martha on bed and then suddenly Martha belly Ejects black liquid and that was their son, the origin, he was shocked because Adult jonas never goes to Martha for intercourse on bed , but because in true sense he goes to Martha world and died and reincarnated in alternate version.
And this song just was playing during Stranger Jonas was on work, indicating that he is done dying

Lots of body impairment symbolism in dark with scars, blindness, mutism wounds etc. Eyes have at least been a storytelling classic trope since Odin sacrificed his eye to drink from Mimir's well of knowledge/illumination.
Jonas walks around with his neck scar like he can't breath in these worlds and carries his fathers mark. When he can't escape the 19th century his arm is wounded to show how he is unable to act. (classic trope since star wars) At the end he is a full body scar (like darth vader ;p) Martha cuts a scar over her younger selfs eye to forbid her to see into Jonas/Adams world. Too many examples..
I think that's why it is so funny that we never learned wheather Torben's impairments in the different worlds have any relevance at all.

One of the most important parts about this is that H.G. succeeded in his plan. It was a very long round about way, but to him it would have seemed immediate or unbeknownst to him it would have not happened at all. Theoretically all HG did was set up a long algorithm that canceled itself out once he did the numbers all the way through.

Question was that > can one bring dead back before they die using Time travel ....... H.G got his son, daughter in law and Grand daughter back which means it work.....
      But
As I built time machine and I want to travel back in time and kill my grandfather so that my father won't exist resulting I don't exist..... And when I don't exist means time machine won't exist which further means I don't get to kill my grandfather and so that it will lead to my existence where I'll build the time machine to repeat the cycle.....
If Jones and Martha Prevented H.G's family's death resulting H.G don't build time machine and inevitable two more worlds from where jones and Martha will come to save H.G's family .., but if he doesn't build time travel Jones and Martha won't be in existence and can't come to save H.G's family's inevitable making him create time travel....... All lead to same cycle again.....
      What was the ending

@@nafeesanjum7604 Also the exact mechanics of the "Schrodinger's Causality" during the apocalypse. We are shown that the different Marthas and Jonases and Claudias exist in the same timeline(s). Creating a new Jonas doesn't create a new timeline. It's like a clone. But what's confusing about that is that we see the two Jonases occupying the same space at the exact same time, but they can't see or interact with each other. So it's like there are two timelines, even though there isn't. And furthermore, how exactly do these quantum uncertainty events relate to determinism? Claudia would have us believe it breaks determinism. It's a loophole that allows fate to change. Her quantum clone wasn't meant to happen and kickstarts the chain of new events that leads to closing the loop. But some quantum clones _are_ meant to happen, as they are integral to preserving the loop. Jonas and Martha must clone themselves. So are these quantum uncertainties deterministically fated? I suppose it could be argued that they are because Eva, acting outside "Schrodinger's Causality" and so within fate, sends Bartosz (with fated instructions) to the exact moment of the apocalypse when causality breaks, therefore ensuring Bartosz's actions are in that moment "uncertain" creating the two Marthas and therefore two Jonases.
But this begs the question of why Claudia's clone isn't fated. Technically, her actions and decisions that led to her formulating the plan to break the loop happened outside of Schrodinger's Causality. So wouldn't the events leading Claudia to kickstart the loophole also be fated, just like Eva? What's different? Is it as simple as Claudia's explanation to Jonas that changing little things eventually can lead to big things? That tiny quantum variations in the infinite loop led to a situation in which Claudia discovers the loophole?
And then we must wonder how the new causality spawned by the apocalypse affects the world. The fated causalities of clone Martha and clone Jonas don't contradict the causality of the loop, beyond paradoxically existing in the same spacetime during the apocalypse as their non-clone selves. They are part of the loop. But the causality of clone Claudia contradicts the causality of the loop. Her actions lead to Jonas time-kidnapping Martha, something that does not happen in the loop, breaking the loop's causality. Unless we're meant to believe that, like with the apocalypse, both scenarios of Jonas kidnapping Martha and not kidnapping Martha are happening simultaneously. But if _that's_ the case, then technically is the loophole fated? Is the causal loop scenario and the Tannhaus's-kids-don't-die scenario happening simultaneously? So Claudia's plan both succeeds and does not succeed, in accordance with fate? If this is not the case, then perhaps only causalities spawned during the apocalypse via a fated causality (e.g. Eva deterministically sending Bartosz to create the clones) can interact with the loop, whereas causalities not initiated by fate interfere with the causality of fate. Making Claudia's loophole completely successful.
Finally, the last question is why aren't there more clones? If causality breaks down during a single moment of the apocalypse and every decision during that moment becomes a macroscopic Schrodinger's Cat, why aren't there an infinite number of Marthas and Jonases and everyone else on the planet that exists during that moment? Hell, even if it's literally Schrodinger's Cat and so it's a binary yes-or-no situation (i.e. Does Martha save Jonas? Yes or no.) shouldn't there still be a single clone of everyone? I can think of one solution. Dark's determinism is consistently explained to be emergent from human will, rather than the opposite. We are not puppets forced to choose things against our will. We act according to our will, always, thus ensuring the loop. So perhaps no other clones are created because even though causality is absent during the apocalypse, our wills are the same and so we will make the same decisions. Notice that the difference between the two scenarios that spawn the clones of Martha and Jonas is not a product of human will, it's not Martha deciding "Should I or should I not save Jonas?" It's an event. It's Bartosz showing up. In one scenario he does, in another he doesn't. Eva is outside the apocalypse when she sends Bartosz, so it cannot be Schrodinger's Eva. So perhaps it's the time machine working or not working correctly? Bartosz was recruited by his older self right before the apocalypse and we don't see when exactly he travelled to Martha. So... it is a possibility that he travelled during Schrodinger's Causality and therefore he both did and did not travel, explaining the Martha clones and therefore the Jonas clones. The Bartosz that didn't travel would die in the apocalypse and the one that does would become old Bartosz. So no loose ends. The question then ends up being did Bartosz make a choice to travel or not travel, or did the time machine both work and not work? Essentially, is it Schrodinger's Bartosz or Schrodinger's time machine? If it's the time machine, that would fit with the "human will" theory, making the cloning of Martha and Jonas a unique event, yet another wacky product of time travel. If it's Bartosz, then I have no idea why there aren't millions of clones. Surprisingly, this wouldn't really complicate the means by which Claudia clones herself. It's still either due to previous tiny quantum variations in the loop leading to a new causality or Claudia discovering the cloning mechanism is part of causality and so the loop simultaneously exists and does not exist.
The final, final question is when does Claudia diverge from fate, if she does at all? She formulates her plan long before she clones herself.

So many Jonases, so many Marthas and Claudias, my mind is too simple to comprehend all this. Also, the darkest part is Helene killing her own daughter bc she thought adult Katerina was the soul of a child she got rid of as a teen.

  • @tubereuse2674

Awesome recaps, Gil. Just one small thing I've wanted to mention couple of times - Helene's reaction to Katherina was because of her belief that the "ones gotten rid of" go to hell. She's seeing Katherina and sensing a familiarity and thinking it's her aborted child back from the dead to haunt her. I think that's why she freaks out so badly and kills her, saying "you're not real."

That is a great recap, very detailed. I wonder what happens to Adam in the endless loop scenario. We know that Adam kills Eva, but what happens to him after that? How does he end? Does someone kill him? I suspect it might be young scarred Marta after she finds Eva dead, but it is not clear. Any ideas?

    • @OneTakeVids
      @OneTakeVids  4 ปีที่แล้ว +21

Thanks Simona! I don't think the show gives us a lot to go on in terms of what happens to Adam next in the endless loop scenario. However, I think scarred Martha killing him is a pretty good guess. If she doesn't kill him then honestly, after seeing Jonas try to hang himself in 2023, I could see see Adam going that way as well. Finally, if he doesn't die by Martha's or his own hands... he might just die of illness soon. I have to think all the damage to his body isn't purely external - I wouldn't be surprised if there were tumors or other internal damage caused by his extensive "travels" so he might not have long left regardless. Once he dies, meanwhile his younger selves are repeating the endless cycle.

    • @monal1517
      @monal1517 4 ปีที่แล้ว +9

@@OneTakeVids There is another reason why I believe that scarred young Marta killed him. Eve and middle age Marta are so calculated and eager to preserve the knot, they would do anything to make sure that Adam does not get away. If he gets away, he might try to leave some messages to his younger selves so that they behave differently to prevent another loop cycle. The most efficient way for the endless loop to be maintained is to eliminate Adam.

You did a great job on the video, but I believe you are missing a very important part of the last scene in the show.
The people not created by the loop of Jonas and Martha are seen sitting at the table, in a world the show has deemed as paradise, we are actually watching another loop being created. At the last scene the lights go out and Hannah experiences déjà vu, looks over to a yellow raincoat (imagery from the one Jonás and Martha wore throughout the series) reflecting the statement in the show “everything is connected”, which one can come to think that even the origin world cannot exist without the Jonas and Martha world, proven by the fact that it TAKES JONÁS AND MARTHA FROM THEIR 2 OTHER WORLDS to save Tanhaus’s family from being killed, giving substance to the fact that their are two alternate realities that coexist in the origin world where Jonas and Martha exist and go back to prevent their existence and alter the events to create the second origin world. The final scene will be labeled as a paradox by most, but it indicates that the loop is actually continuing. When the power cuts out we know from the past that it means that a Time Machine is being used, throughout the final season the statement “a man is willed by what he wants, but a man cannot will what he wills” implying that even though Jonas and Martha saved Tanhaus’s family from being killed he continued to look for a way to time travel, because as we know from the argument between he and his son he was already interested and invested in time travel with or without the death of his son, grandchild, and daughter-in-law. His son’s statement about seeing an angel maybe have intrigued his interest and belief even more that they exist in turn pushing him even more to find the existence of time travel, thus the power outage in the last scene is the Time Machine being turned on, possibly for the very first time, this tearing of realities is a possible explanation of what caused Hannah to have her déjà vu, we can infer this because it occurred the moment she looks at the yellow rain coat and obtains the memories and emotions of the other 2 worlds because the other 2 world are being brought into existence at that very moment. We know this because the name Jonas comes to her due to the memories of another time loop coming back to her for a very short moment when she looks at the rain coat. She decides that she is going to call the child she’s pregnant with Jonas, which implies that she is starting a new loop where everything begins again. Another way to prove this is that the 3 worlds themselves are classed as the tricetra, if you look at the tricetra as a map of all three worlds they all require the existence of the other 2 in order to exist. Dark has always used the motion of 3, 33 year cycle for example, 3 worlds, 3 versions of characters, 3 seasons of the show, which can also be associated with the “God particle” ->Christian God which exists in the “TRINITY” 3 in 1 where one does not exist without the other, just like the 3 worlds in the show. Everything in these loops of 3 are based upon cause and effect. So we can say that the origin world is heavily based on the other because it is required for Jonas and Martha to come from the other 2 to save Tanhaus’s family, as I mentioned before. The characters going into the dark in the final scene ties into the shows name and meaning and also gives us a teaser that Jonas is to return to either repeat the entire loops of the show in order to get back to that single finale scene in or to allow that scene to be possible, OR creat another brand new cycle of loops, haven’t completely thought that part out yet but I believe that it will be the same cycle because the overwhelming theme throughout the series is that you can never actually change anything because everything just repeats again. The only time it actually diverted from this notion is in the last 30 minutes of the show when Adam and Older Claudia believe that what they’re doing has never happened before. Which means that Claudia is the one that ultimately has keep the loop continuing over and over again perpetuating the cycle, which makes her no difference from Adam and Eve. Even the original world lives in a state of flux due to the fact that there are 2 parallel realities in which Tanhaus creates the time mache and where he doesn’t. Though the actions of Martha and Jonas seem to put everything back in order, they actually create a paradox in which they need to exist in order to save Tanhaus’s son which can only be possible if their 2 worlds exist.

Another great recap, Gil. As someone said below, really appreciate the effort and diligence you put into your podcasts. About "Dark" itself, I've become a little bummed out upon realizing how unapologetically selfish Eva and Adam have been. Consider the things they;ve done: kidnapping children and subjecting them to anything but safe experiments, and in the process causing great anguish to their loved ones; strangling people right and left; deceiving and then killing a girl and her baby, etc. If Adam were so anxious to get to the "dark," then why not just commit suicide and be done with it. And Eva--don't even get me started. lol Thanks again for all your recaps!

It also probably had to get bad enough so that we would would fully appreciate why destroying the knot was the right thing to do. Either way though, it does bum me out to think about how awful Jonas and Martha ended up being which is partially why I had such mixed feelings in the end. I usually don't gravitate towards art that emphasizes tragedy so anytime I encounter it... I find myself asking if it was worth the payoff. Loved Dark overall but definitely gives you plenty to wrestle with in the end. Thanks again for coming along for the ride with these recaps!

Love the recap! But have to say Season 3 is the weakest of the series. I personally didn't like adding in the third world while the other two are pretty much destroyed. You spend two seasons learning about these set of characters only for them to not exist anymore. While they introduced their counter parts, it took away from that attachment. This is the same thing Sliders did a long time ago. You spent like 5 years following Jerry O'connel and his quest to find his home world and family. Then they randomly merge him with another actor that looked completely different and dropped the whole finding his home storyline. It was a kick in the gut. As for Dark, it's like "oh well my original world and family doesn't matter anymore". Lol

    • @OneTakeVids
      @OneTakeVids  4 ปีที่แล้ว +8

Thanks! And I definitely agree that I'd rank season 3 last after seasons 1 and 2. Though not by a large margin for me - I enjoyed most of the final season. Also, I didn't necessarily mind the introduction of a 3rd world but I thought most of the explanations up to that point had pretty strong internal logic. I.e., you have to accept the premise that they've discovered time travel but from there, you can track most of the logic. The explanation for how these two worlds sprung out of the original world felt unusually hand-wavy for this show (i.e., his machine split the world in two! But... why?). Also, wow - Sliders was literally my favorite show growing up in the 90's. I remember when the "other Quinn" took over, I was so upset and then by the end of the series, Rembrandt was the only remaining cast member from the original. Love bumping into another Sliders fan haha.

DJ, I must fully disagree. I suppose you perceive this show as fun only without looking for deeper understandings and feelings, of life, death, time, existance, origin, fate, karma, happiness, struggle, bliss, tragedy, logic, intuition, raising consciousness, memory, mukti... Also, it seems to me that you did not understand what is happening in 3rd season, since the third world bothers you, but actually number of worlds is more, some of them we see only glimpses while others are more or less developped. Moreover, we see the place between the worlds, out of space time! But for you, its maybe just a 2min of showtime, so its nothing... If you are looking this show just for fun, and milion times seen happy ending, then it simply is not for you. God bless 🙏

@@OneTakeVids The third season reminded me of the Butterfly Effect movie. Ashton spent the better part of that movie trying to change events to benefit him, but it would have adverse effects on people around him. By the ending (well there's two endings) he eventually realizes him not being apart of the girls life or killing himself in the wound would ensure that everyone has a better life. The ending of Dark seemed almost the same with Jonas finally accepting that his very existence caused everything to spiral out of control and hurt all the people within his life. I do think it was the best ending we could have had without being so hunky-dory. And yes I did the symbolism with religion, time, space, and sacfrice. They did a good job weaving all that into the show. It is one of the best shows I have seen in years. Maybe I would be more accepting of the 3rd season if they had another season to expand on it. Some shows you cant get enough of but also some run way too long. Maybe 3 seasons was the sweet spot.

Yes this is why I avoid anything that has with time travel, books, shows, movies, games and so on.
Because time travel is so complex eventually the writers will write themselves in to a corner and everyone of them will just end everything with a hard reset.
So after spending all that time everything just ends exactly where it began.
Time travel stories are a waste of time literally.
That is why I watched this recap to see if I was right and I was.

I might be wrong, but I'm almost sure I'm right. When Claudia tells Adam that it's the first time they have that conversation, she probably means a conversation on this specific topic. Adam, after sending everyone from Sic Mundus off and killing Martha, doesn't have any means of transportation, so the only way he can get to Eva and complete the Loop is by Claudia telling him about it and handing him the orb. It's also a part of my theory on how did she manage to find everything out without causing any "paradoxes". She uses the hole in the Loop only to exchange information with her younger self, and doesn't clone herself because she doesn't interfere with any major events in the Loop up to the last episode of the series.

In hindsight, the series felt unnecessarily complicated without making any grand statements. It felt like chess pieces, no emotion just consequence. The world ends and little mention goes into stressing how horrible it is for the world to end… for everyone. Instead, we were made to focus on the petty infighting of suburban families.
And after all of that, we’re told that these two worlds don’t matter, they’re a result of another person’s actions that we spend little time learning about.
At this point, I find this series a gross exploration of self absorption. I remember watching the first season and feeling so horrible about those boys being tortured with their eyes and ears burned and just dumped. We never flushed out why that was even done in the first place. God, it’s all so gross.
This is what boredom and a life without purpose breeds and looking at the comment section, no one else recognizes this which makes the show creator’s actions more reckless.

    • @voidwalker7774

Well, i would argue, that is exactly the point of the show.
All this petty infighting, all the people that should never have existed in the first place, all the sensles suffering.
Only because, one man could not deal with his loss.
And he even got what he wanted, from HG Tannhaus perspectiv he invented the perfect, time travel and saved his son, daughter in law and grand daughter, without even knowing, because the result happend before the cause.
The only sideeffect was two mirror universes with endless suffering, until THEY figured out how to save HIS son.

I almost checked out because it was getting too convoluted but I'm glad I stuck to the end. It wasn't great but it was interesting. Thank you for summarizing it all.

The oldest of the trio must be pretty miserable. Everything he does, he already did two times, must be pretty boring plus he is not even the ring leader but has to follow his younger self

I just thought of a probanly stupid question-
If Mikkel is never sent back to 1986 in Martha's world, how does Helge lose his eye? Maybe I'm missing some details because it's been a while since I finished watching the show and no longer have access to Netflix. But in Jonas' world, the only reason Ulrich tries to kill Helge in 1953 is because he thinks it'll save Mikkel. But in Martha's world, Mikkel isn't with Magnus and Martha when they go to the cave...
So why is Helge's eye missing in Martha's world to mirror Helge's ear being mutilated in Jonas' world?

Helge was attached by Ulrich in Martha’s world as well but this time he was an adult. You must have missed the explanation in the plethora of twists and loops

Can you please explain how Regina exists outside of the loop in the origin world if Claudia is her mother and Claudia is a product of the loop. I am probably just being thick, but I don't get it.

    • @angryhamster147

Claudia is not a product of the loop because neither of her parents descend from Martha and Jonas. Same is true for Regina.

I've read a few theories about Woller's eye. I'm confused as to what happened to him. I also thought it was strange that in the Alt World Helge is missing an eye and Woller has no eye injury. Does anyone have a theory of how this happened?

I'm confuse between Adult Jonas who blew up the cave and Adult Jonah who save Barthoz, Fransiska and Magnus. How come two person at the same time.
