  • Yujacha is a simple Korean tea made from the yuja fruit. It’s fresh, sweet, tangy, and has a strong and unique citron flavor and aroma. It’s perfect for warming you up in the wintertime, and is full of vitamin C. If you have a cold, it will always make you feel better.

How's the taste with lemons? is it similar?

    •  7 ปีที่แล้ว +12

GhanaInMe I have not tried real Yuja tea before to compare, but my husband has and he says lemons are the closest he can find in our area. He does say lemons are more tart than yuja in his opinion.

Gochujang Mamá I bought the Yuja tea about a week ago and the bottle is nearly gone it was so good. I'm definitely going to try it with lemons and see how that works. Thanks.

Gochujang Mamá Is it very sour? :(

    •  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Taeddy bear It is sweet and tangy. I'm not sure of the taste with real Citron fruit, but with lemon it gets bitter because of the peel. My husband loves to drink and even eats the preserved peel. It's a little too bitter for my taste, but I can steep it in hot water and drink as a tea. 😊

    Hello Maangchi !
In France, there is also a delicious citrus (but not the same flavor as the yuja), we just found in one place : the city of Menton. It's here that grows Menton lemon !
It's really delicious ! The skin of the lemon isn't like the others, it's very sweet, so we can eat lemon entirely, exactly as yuja :)

Ooh, my Chinese correspondent used to make something called "orange tea" when we went back home after school, and to me it looked like a tablespoon of jar in a cup. It was delicious, but as she didn't do it herself she couldn't explain to me what exactly it was, and I couldn't read the label because it was written in Chinese. Now I guess it was something like that but made with oranges ! Great, I guess I'll give it a try this winter with various citrus fruits.
Thank you Maanchi for all you wonderful recipes ! :D

I've only seen yuzu once. There is a Japanese market type place about 15 minutes away from my apartment and I found some tiny little yuzu there. They were about the size of a large golf ball. I picked one up to smell it, and the smell was amazing. I can only described it as the cross between a lemon, grapefruit and fresh grass. I was going to buy some to make jam but I realized that they were $5.00 U.S. dollars each. :(

My Chinese neighbors here in Southern, CA, gave me a bag of these about 2 months ago from one of their friend's nearby backyard. They were greenish then and they told me they were some type of lemon...I looked it up on Google, noticing the flat round bottom the fruit had and discovered it was maybe a Yuja or Yuzu citrus.
They had a very interesting flavor and white cloudy juice. I guess because they weren't ripe.
Too bad! I unfortunately never got to experience the aroma you mentioned.
They were very different. I got kinda' hooked on the flavor. Lots of seeds and many segments.
Now I have to try a ripe one.
As a fellow food person, I have been hearing about Yuzu for years. , Mostly mentioned in Japanese cuisine and
the juice, I've heard is very coveted. Now, thanks to you, I know why.
I love Korean food, and you've taught me a lot about it.
Thanks for sharing your story and passions and now your story about Yuja and all the
other dishes and ingredients you introduce to people like me.
