    Tattoing a message into someone's head was a practice dated back from ancient Greeks where they put an important message into a slave's head, sending them to whoever the intended recipient was once the hair grew, and shaving their heads once they've reached their destination.

    How they portrayed Nowak's shock upon learning of Jolenta's death is done to perfection. No anger, no reactions, literally his world just crumbled

    About the text Badeni tatooed, I think it was Okzi's text because if you remember last episode Badeni explained he didn't want his work to be passed on but that Okzi's was shorter and easier to understand. On their last moments Okzi's was filled with hope because of that.

    I still remember when I read the manga, Oczy + Badeni’s death and Nowak’s break down are in the same volume. I was so pissed at Nowak for killing off two of my favorite characters, and in the next two chapters, the author was like: Oh, you hate Nowak? How about seeing him being a loving father, mourning for the death of his daughter?
    Me: GOD DAMN IT! Why are you making me feel so bad for Nowak?! I’m still mourning for my two boys!

    Saw the episode and was so excited to see your reaction! This show has so many twists. My favorite part of the episode was when they revealed the tattoos. I was so shocked I teared up, which actually has happened a few times for this show✋😭🤚

    The interesting thing about the show, as you pointed out, Novak isn’t evil. The show excels in making the viewer sympathetic for a lot of character since they all follow realistic human behavior, only difference is they have different beliefs.
    Looking from Novak’s perspective, he’s fighting all his life for what he believes to be good and for his daughter, which is more noble than what any of the other characters in this show has ever done (thinking about it logically)

    The writing tattooed on the beggars is Oczy's book, it was said a few times in episode 14, it'll also become more obvious later on in the series. It's another big point in Bad's character development that he spends months of his time dedicated to preserving the work of someone who he previously though could never write anything worthwhile. I think some people might be confused because in this episode Grabowski assumed it was Badeni's research since he knew nothing about Oczy.

    Remember when Badeni said that Oczy's book would be shared because it wasnt scholarly and could be shared among the common people but it had a very tiny chance of actually working? This is what he meant.

    The show really makes us question if there's a difference between good and evil. In terms of dedication, Novak is just as noble, just as dedicated to his work as the researchers are. Who gets to decide that Novak's on the wrong side just because he's killing people? Novak is even more noble than the bishop's son for sure.
    I think this show is useful for reflecting on what we mean by noble, dedication, passion, in life. We can also respect the brown-haired noob inquisitor for his decision to save Jolenta and the yellow-haired noob inquisitor for having the courage to learn to torture. Who gets to decide that either is right? It's unfair to judge them in hindsight with our new understanding of science, when they both were dedicated to their different interpretations of faith, their different values.
    The message to love or at least respect your enemies rings true beyond the show, to opposing war leaders, to opposing activists, to everyday people competing in the job market, to anyone who tries. I think the show's message is like what Teddy said, that it is the one in the arena, who strives and errs that counts. Here's the great quote in case someone reading this is unaware:
    “It is not the critic who counts; not the man who points out how the strong man stumbles, or where the doer of deeds could have done them better. The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena, whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood; who strives valiantly; who errs, who comes short again and again, because there is no effort without error and shortcoming; but who does actually strive to do the deeds; who knows great enthusiasms, the great devotions; who spends himself in a worthy cause; who at the best knows in the end the triumph of high achievement, and who at the worst, if he fails, at least fails while daring greatly, so that his place shall never be with those cold and timid souls who neither know victory nor defeat.”
    Novak's story speaks a lot about the pursuit of truth, and this conflict is a dramatic way of describing what happens when people's truths they're pursuing cross. I wonder how Novak will change going forward if at all. Will he burn Jolenta's gloves? Will he see her published research at the end? Will he accidentally discover she's alive? Orb is fire as always. Although the show contains a bit of plot manipulation with coincidences and whatnot, the characters' behaviors make perfect sense, and I'm looking forward to seeing Orb continue cooking.‍🔥‍

    "What do you think is necessary to change such a world? It is knowledge.
    For some reason, Netflix translates "chi" in this Badeni's line as ''truth'', but it's "knowledge"

    badeni went like basic 3rd protagonist to my fav the way he uses the beggar head as a book. rafal was my favourite but badeni just randomly came up on top.

    Nowak isn't evil, he doesn't enjoy what he does, just sees it as something necessary.
    That said, I didn't expect to feel so sad for him, believing his daughter, his reason for living, was gone.
    Badeni and Oczy were good for each other for sure, I wish we could have had more time with them.
    It would be interesting if those are actually tattoos on their heads. Leviticus (Old Testament) forbids them.

    The bishop's son made a mistake and he doesn't even know. He just allowed Nowak to go through the whole grieving process. Now when Jolenta and him eventually meet again, he's basically gonna be given another chance to support her after having reflected about his choices. I'm sure there will still be hesitancy, but because of this now he's gonna be way more willing to help than before. And at the very least he'll have to see Jolenta's "death" as the conspiracy that it is and start questioning him.

    Damn, I teared up for Nowak
    Glad to finally learn what was up with the beggars. “Is it my turn?” was such a powerful line, I have to wonder if Grabowski becomes the MC, or will we swap to Jolenta, or possibly follow a new character with both Grabowski and Jolenta having become prominent figures

    A little offering of perspectives, I think the whole thing between Nowak and smol Jolenta regarding faith is not for something like "keeping her safe from being his next torture victim", it is simply a religious father trying to teach his little daughter what he believes to be the strict ultimate guidance for humans to live that one must adhere to regardless of one's age or situation. He getting triggered at Jolenta for putting the blame on God is more likely to be reactive response since his ears are accustomed to detect blasphemous lines.
