    Took some welding classes, decades ago, started back in for repair work on farm. Your tips are great, using 6011 with a DC machine. Need a lot of practice. Thanks for the videos.

    On some days, I think welding hates me, so l'm always looking for more ideas thank you, I started a little late, at 68, 1 year ago, got some nice things done though like always trying something new, my brand new steel. roof just another notch, Oh and even learned keyboard, by air, in the. same span. love the 11s but 13s on some days fair on others pure murder. have a great one , hope you're still on.

    used 6011 all my life 65 yr old farm boy went to welding school at age 50, instructor ask if anyone in class could weld, raised my hand and was called out on it, welded two perfectly prepped plates with my choice of 6011 instructor watched, put them in a press and broke them, said it ain't pretty but it damn sure holds, was the teacher's aide for the entire year........something to be said for practical and using what's on hand

    I ran a Hobart 6011 3/32 and the arch was very violent to where I was about to blow thru a 3/8 inch plate or melt it. The rod also turned black and had a flame coming off it. It burns fast too.

    Luv your channel, just a couple of questions. Why do you use your oxy-acetelne for cutting when you have a plasma cutter? And whystick weld when you have might? I'm asking because I am setting myself up to start welding projects. Cheers

    • @Allensweldingwoodworking
      @Allensweldingwoodworking  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You should know how to run a torch before you ever have plasma, a lot of fab shops only have a torch so you have to know how to run it, same with stick welding, I dont run stick much because might is a lot faster for me

    6011 is an AC rod regardless. The difference in the rods you have is lincoln made the fleetweld 180 series of 6011 specifically for low open circuit machines. The ac225 will just about run any rod, besides a 6010. The lincoln ac-225 has an open circuit voltage of 79, ive seen some machines that only had open circuit voltage of 42-48, and they would only run the lincoln fleetweld 180 series of 6011. Anyway thanks for the video allen 😊

    Allen do you ever do an Flux core arch welding? I tend to use it as my backup mainly because I do not have a good storage place for rods right now.

    • @jeromesuggs8330
      @jeromesuggs8330 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Build a plywood box big enough to put the rods and a simple light bulb in it. The light bulb (75 watt or so) will create enough heat to keep rods dry.

    • @tehpimpmasta
      @tehpimpmasta 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jeromesuggs8330 Really? If so, this is a damn good tip/idea! I’ve finally broke down today actually and ordered a plastic rod holding tube.. wish I would have thought of/seen this earlier! Lol. Will still try it out though! Can never have too much storage space. Especially being out of wood, you could attach it to a workbench or whatever. Not to mention.. “finish” it up to maybe make it blend in, or just to look better perhaps, if that’s important to you.. either way.. exceptional! Apologies, for writing a whole book’s worth of shit in one comment!

    We all know that the 6011 in the 6013 or good penetrating rods look like you had a about an eighth of an inch or less too well that and that should give you that should have given you great penetration I like your program I guess I'm wondering you always use a MIG why did what made you go to the arc welder

  • @doogdoogdoogdoog9198
    @doogdoogdoogdoog9198 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    6013 rod would do that job nicely with way less splatter and would have a smoother bead with easy slag removal. 6011 rods are a very aggressive fast freeze deep penetrating rod that is good for dirty rusty metal . I guess you knew all this but just in case you didn't and keep up the good impressive work.

      I have a lot of problems with 7018s well, no it doesn't matter the brand name. With gaps like you have there I would have put a small round rod down the length of the gap or maybe helped fill the gap with a second rod being held in my left hand and being meltdown as I go long. My AC welder is like yours, never used DC rods, think I will try it. Thanks

    I love them little grills there sir, I'm in the process of putting together a fire pit outta 3/16 plate, with 6011 , I tried 7018 and couldn't get it to run worth of s#@%!! I didn't try running it uphill , only downhill, maybe it'd make a difference, if I'd of tried horizontal instead!! I know Jody , over at Welding Tips & Tricks , can get just about any rod to run any direction, but I guess that's where experience comes into play!! Anyway, keep up the awesome vids, I've learned a bunch from watching them!!👍🙂

    • @kindterps5593

      7018 is not rated to run downhill. The slag runs to the front of the puddle due to gravity.

    No such thing as a DC 6011, they can be run on AC or DC. THE DC only version of that type rod is 6010.

    • @SOLDOZER
      @SOLDOZER 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You are a moron. You have no clue what you are talking about. He's using an AC machine and using Lincoln 6011 AC specific rods.. The DC rods hes talking about are the normal 6011 rods.

    • @XxSylasxX
      @XxSylasxX 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The BBQ Jerk either way he is right. ALL 6011 rods are made for AC/DC. The dc polarity variant is 6011. Only difference is they added calcium/potassium to the flux to make it AC friendly. Therefore, you my friend, are a moron. And even if they do sell 6011 ac or dc only rods it's just a gimmick. Maybe you should do some research into your electrodes.

    • @Rattletrap2
      @Rattletrap2 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      6011 is the AC version of 6010! They are both fast freeze rods good for root passes. They both have cellulose (paper) based flux. 6010 is sodium based and 6011 is potassium based flux. The potassium is used to maintain the arc and keep it "lit" as the current osscilates through the sign wave and would essentially go out every time you based the "0" on the AC sign wave. The fact of the matter is that Allen is still an excellent welder whatever process he is using!
