These things are wolves in sheep's clothing. I have a 2006 GTO and I love it. I built mine to be a Scat Pack killer since most of the Charger/Challenger guys who pull up don't know what it is.
I’ve always wanted one of these or the w6 ram air. I daily a 2014 Taurus SHO that is also a sleeper with its tuned 3.5 liter twin turbos. 460 hp and 480 torque + awd. Super reliable in snow and absolutely shits on scatpacks and 90% of other cars driving around.
I'm 38, I've had a c5 and c6 vette. The reason I want a gto is I want the power without the looks of looking fast. 400hp is more than enough for me at this point.
…..I had a Torrid Red ‘06, red & black interior with a Maggie, I miss it, but I also LOVE my ‘11 C6 GS. only downfall of the GTO is GM’s parts being constantly discontinued.
They can be fast or at least fast enough to keep up with current stuff. I'm building mine. 6.0 iron block with forged internals, ported 823 heads. Xport LSA , built t56. Axles and diff are beefed up. Should have some videos soon.
Good video, man! I had a Torrid Red '05 and a Brazen Orange '06. I definitely miss them. Best highway and road trip cars I've ever owned. Once I got an aluminum radiator, a steel braided fuel line, a one piece driveshaft, wrapped the BCM wires behind the glovebox, new strut mounts, new springs and shocks, new radius rod bushings, and a new head unit, I was good to go! Lol
I have a black on black 2005 gto 6 speed 44k miles with magna flow exhaust that sounds like music to my ears. Always get looks and drive it once week. Never gets old just pure fun and a great sleeper.
Absolutely love my 05. Wanted one since they were introduced. And low and behold my son bought a black 2005 last month For his first car. We're gonna have some great times wrenching together 🎉
I found one where I live with 100k miles 6.0 ls2 manual and it has a lot of upgrades and looks to be well kept up with , but we will see. It’s for 10k and has a new t56 trans with 5k miles and tick short shifter ac and heat
Fun fact: GM tweaked the Euro variants (The Vauxhall Monaro) to make it a factory drift-car. A lot of power to break traction loose, and enough weight to throw around yet handle well.
…..it’s ashame GM has discontinued majority of parts for the GTO & aftermarket is very limited due to low production & demand. I miss my ‘06, but love my ‘11 GS. 😉
I would say drag bags really alleviates issues with squatting when launching. I have owned mine for 18 years and it is still a great car being modified as it is. Good video!
I just like another South Carolina guy with good car content. When I was looking for my second car, I was seriously looking at one of these the only reason I didn't is because it was mechanically identical to my 4th gen Trans Am.
They are not as heavy as ppl make them out to be. 3725 curb weight on a auto car with a filled trans and full tank of fuel. My stick car weighs 3580 with me in it and 2 gallons of fuel. My 16 s550 mustang is heavier. The 5th gen camaro is heavier. The fact they are heavy is a myth. Find any other modern muscle car with atleast 400hp and 7 times out of 10 the gto is lighter. The only comparable car is the s197 gt500 and its only 165lbs lighter.
I own a Monaro CV8 here in the U.K.......awesome cars, it's the 4th one i've owned. I love the LS1 engine, it'll pull 70mph in second gear no problem - thats good enough for me!🙂
I plan on getting one. If not the g8. Would love the orange one. I want something I don’t see everywhere like chargers challengers and mustangs. Although I love mustangs. My brother wrecked my Hyundai Genesis coupe which was my previous toy. Loved that thing. I want some V8 power now. But I gotta buy a house first.
When I was shopping for a car, I wanted ls power and I wanted something that wasn’t everywhere. And I had to have a coupe. So I bought a goat. An 04/a4. If I could do it over I’d have bought an ls2 car with the m6. I’m in the middle of a manual swap now and that was 7k in parts alone. But most of that would have been necessary on an m6 car as well. These cars turn heads everywhere.
Oh by the way the blue 05 on my channel is running a bone stock rear end and stock axles with a built 4l80. It made like 840 RWHP or something and went 9.40 spinning the tire on the wheel so he needs beadlocks but yeah stock axles and diff! LOL
Interesting when you say the 04 GTO is the top spec compared to the originals. The 04 GTO is actually a base spec Monaro, there are much higher spec cars in the UK and specially Australia. Shame they didn’t bring the HSV versions to the states.
Can you edit a video anymore than this?? The 2004-2006 GTO's are becoming more and more desirable. The prices keep going up and even today they are fast and super fun to drive. A 2004 GTO does 0-60 in 5.3 sec but IMO it is even faster than the spec. You have the 2005-2006 GTO's that have more HP but personally, I do not think they are any faster than the LS1 on the 2004. I have the Borla S-Type Catback on mines and Yep typical common issues on these cars. My 06 has 46k and still needs a new radiator and going buy the drive shaft repair kit cause those wear quickly...

Nothing to do with reliability or quality as build quality was much better than muscle competitors of that era.
I think it’s more attributed to the discontinuation of the Holden Monaro in 2006 (look up if you don’t know). After the Monaro was discontinued they decided to take the Holden commodore and turn it into the “flagship” v8 Pontiac which was the g8 which was sold until the death of Pontiac in 2009. So it’s a mix of the comment above regarding the overall buyers market at the time and discontinuation of the cars production in Australia as the Holden Monaro, so there was no longer a Monaro to rebadge as a GTO and import to the States.
