he was a notorious outlaw for a reason (he was a deadeye with a gun and not to be trifled with, and successfully committed many crimes including robbing the pine city stage before wandering over to Hill Valley, mostly thanks to his quickdraw skills and deadly aim.) @Verity Perhaps Doc's look was like he was saying "Marty, why did you drop your gun which gave Tannen the opportunity to shoot you?" or his look was like he was thinking "now I can't head back to 1985 without Marty, what will his parents say now that he's dead?"
@@MarySmith-lv3mo Yes, he could have done that but, maybe he only had a certain amount of power in the time machine to go back in time. Unless maybe he traveled back to 1985 by himself and when he got back, he could then reverse time to go back and prevent Marty's death.

00:27 I always loved the way he spins his gun.
This is single-handedly one of the greatest and most satisfying beat downs I've ever seen a villain get in any movie EVER. It puts a smile on my face every time Marty knocks his peacemaker out of his hand, gets up, and then Tannen nearly breaks his wrist smashing the iron stove door strapped to his chest.
I can’t believe the camera man waited from 1885 to 2015 to film this franchise, such dedication

@@falconz006 where have you been? Were you stranded on an island? Perhaps on a coma? Or were you on a no-internet retreat?
Cameraman jokes are everywhere.
You have to admit, though. Buford Tannen is quite a shooter. Straight from the hip, he scores a chest hit in one draw!!
I remember a BTTF Fan saying,"Man, Biff is a terrible shot. Buford would roll in his grave knowing that." 🤣
he was a notorious outlaw for a reason (he was a deadeye with a gun and not to be trifled with, and successfully committed many crimes including robbing the pine city stage before wandering over to Hill Valley, mostly thanks to his quickdraw skills and deadly aim.)
I think Marshal Strickland had the skills to match him, wanted him dead, and was planning to make a move on him, but just couldn't catch him at the right time; he camped outside the town, kept backshooters with him at all times, and was always hanging out in crowded areas with too many unarmed civilians that could get injured in a crossfire.
Thankfully Marty beat him and they could bring him to justice alive rather than dead =D
@@hobomike6935 Nah, Marshal always used a shotgun and made sure he was relatively close to Tannen, indicating he wasn't a good shot and knew he couldn't beat him in a straight fight. Hell a deleted scene shows him getting out shot and then killed by Tannen.
Thank you Thomas F. Wilson abundantly for bringing Buford "Mad Dog" Tannen (& young & old Biff & 2015 Griff) to life up their on the silver screen...a part that was definitely...'Your Destiny"...!!!
Or your density.
He actually isn’t fond of the role, really. People keep assuming that he is exactly like those characters, but he is actually a big softie in real life.
Back to the Future is honestly one of the few trilogies where each movie holds its own at being amazing and entertaining
The looks on Doc's face are hilarious!

I love how marty puts the 3 tannens in their place: Biff, Griff, and Bufford
to manure :D
And all three hated manure😁
@@zsoltkiss545 Actually, Griff got a face full of window glass in Part 2 after hurtling headlong into it on his out of control Pit Bull Hoverboard. Though you could say he was in the shit. Just not literally.

Using the metal plate to stop the bullets just like Clint Eastwood did in A Fistful of Dollars, was brilliant writing, and brilliant acting.
My all-time favorite movie/trilogy/story. The subtle comedic timing of the actors is unparalleled. I saw the first one in the theater in 1985. Was and still is a nearly perfect series.
1:27 the move and the laugh are just perfect ^^
What I really like about this scene is those subtle cues of death just sounding in the background. The church bell tolling, the sound of flies buzzing, it's chilling
I love Doc's questioning look at 1:34 as if he's asking like, "Wait a sec, something doesn't look right."
@Verity Perhaps Doc's look was like he was saying "Marty, why did you drop your gun which gave Tannen the opportunity to shoot you?" or his look was like he was thinking "now I can't head back to 1985 without Marty, what will his parents say now that he's dead?"
@@afriendofbean Doc could have just found a way to reverse time and prevent Marty's death if Marty had really died in that scene.
@@MarySmith-lv3mo Yes, he could have done that but, maybe he only had a certain amount of power in the time machine to go back in time. Unless maybe he traveled back to 1985 by himself and when he got back, he could then reverse time to go back and prevent Marty's death.
3:21 runs in the family.
The best film in the trilogy and one of the greatest movies ever! And a very satisfying conclusion to the series! Comedy, action, adventure, suspense, breath-taking stunts, and Oscar-worthy performances!
"What if he shot you in the face?" -Lloyd Christmas
"What if he shot me in the face?" - Harry Dunne
He knew Buford wouldn't do that.
Marty: "I knew he wouldn't. It wasn't in the script."
Despite what every fps ever would tell you, hitting the head is pretty damn hard. Body shots are usually preferred since if your torso is shredded, you're dying either way, why risking a miss with a headshot
Maybe Doc' Back in the past from the past/Future.
The McFly vs the Tannens. The best rivalry in Hill Valley History.
Funfact: The Dr had a cameo in A Million Way To Die In The West
I saw! It was so funny
"What is that thing?"
"N-nothing! A umm, science experiment!"
"Ok..."
"Great Scott!"
It was a fun cameo, even though it didn't make sense continuity wise, since Doc trying to fix the time machine in the barn was in 1885, which isn't the year _A Million Ways To Die in the West_ takes place in.

Especially Seamus looked very sad at 1:26 and from 1:37-1:39 feeling that it should have been him being the one to get shot for one thing, he was the first enemy of Buford with Marty as Clint Eastwood replaced him and Seamus coming to the Palace Saloon felt that he owes Marty to be there feeling sorry for Marty.

Marty got the idea from the movie he saw when Clint Eastwood wearing bullet proof vest in Back to the future 2.
That’s some real balls on Marty. He couldn’t have been certain Tannen would actually hit the oven plate. But I guess if you assume he aims for centre mass and he’s a good shot, then you ought to be safe.
Tannen may have also wanted him to suffer to he didn’t aim for the head
He knew that Tannen would try to shoot him in the heart to kill him. That's what they usually did in these gunfights.
@@sha11235 But Tannen didn't shoot Marty's HEART, he shot Marty's STOMACH....
I think this duel was like walking a tight rope because Marty couldn't kill Tannen either, just overpower him. Because his dad's future depended on standing up to Biff, killing Buford could have BIG consequences on the McFlys

The scene that absolutely sold me on this time travel adventure was the entre scene between movie II and III, when the DeLorean is hit by lighting and disappears. As soon as it happened and the puff of smoke was still hanging in the air, I thought if this was a real time-travel movie then a message should immediately arrive from Doc in the past, since he's had all this time to arrange it.
And there it was.
I like how the punches sync in with the music lol
Gotta love how many versions of Biff the actor played:
- Boss Biff when the first movie begins
- Young Biff when Marty travels back to 1955 first time
- Garage-owner Biff after the timeline gets slightly altered due to George knocking out Biff.
- Old Biff
- His grandson Griff
- Donald Trump Biff after 1985 gets altered
- Bufford "Mad Dog" Tannen
