    Hey Cinematic Composers!,
Alright!. We are having the second day of Mixing, and this one is gonna be a little longer than usual :).
As we are now in day 2, we will mix not 1 track but 2 😛
In Today’s lesson, I’m going to mix 2 tracks from my students from scratch.
We will be having a lot of fun.
    See you there,
    Marc

Just watching this now, great stuff! One thing I noticed is that in the first song, all of the music (orchestra) stems were in mono. This resulted in Cubase creating mono tracks when the stems were imported. This is why you were not able to use standard stereo panning. It also resulted in the reverbs of the samples sounding very closed and centered. The S1 imager is also rendered useless on a mono track in Cubase, that's why it didn't really get wider when you added it. Hope this helps, keep up the great content!

Hi Marc, in terms of mixing, one big concern that bothers me quite a lot is the obvious “room” clashing when combining different libraries from different developers. I clearly hear that in my mixes and also in some of other mockup mixes too. For me that aspect falls me in a lack of credibility (call it realism) in the final result. It’s a shame because in terms of composition and available tools there is a wide palette of colours to use (with all the different libraries available), but in reality, in terms of mixing I hear the obvious different “rooms” of each different libraries that of course have been recorded in different rooms at source. Spitfire ones doesn’t sound at all, ambience wise, like the Orchestral Tools ones for instance. I guess the solution is to know which libraries combine well within each others, but also to properly blend the mix (less room/ambience and more direct mics) within each Kontakt instance, and make the overall blending of the final mix using and sharing the same Reverbs across all of the different libraries. What is your approach on this ? Do you care ? What are your thoughts on this ?

Id like to understand the difference between making a track realistic vs trailer.

late maybe but, in trailer you don't need to follow the rules you have to use in an ochestral piece to make it sound realistic (in orchestra there's a studied balance and instrument location to make everyhing glue correctly, in Trailer you can put your first violin on the right side if you want (in orchestral they go to the left) for example if that helps to the track.
