My dad sang barbershop music for the better part of 50 years. He passed 5 years ago. The spine tingling harmony never gets old. This group sounds great. The lead singer has some very impressive lung capacity and the whole time holding the note perfectly. Well done gentlemen.
Wow barbershop acapella at its finest, unbelievable arrangement, I'm blessed to have sung the lead and I treasure every moment of the memory and I'm still singing along, also classics Railroad Rag and For the Longest Time
@@mavrcva9313 Actually its not the lead holding that post. It is the lead part but Tim Waurick the tenor switches parts with the lead Eric Dalbey to hold the post and Eric takes the high point for the end
Inspires me to sing more more more. Absolutely love this version. I have much to learn, but one day I will sing my way across the planet. Best wishes and smiles to all of you out there. Remember to go the distance. ;) "Trust the World - hunt your dreams"
Wow. All I can say is wow. That was absolutely amazing. Your balance and tonal quality is stunning! I played this in my choir class for part of the listening part of our warmups and everyone in the class (advanced men's a-cappella) was speechless. I can't say enough good things about you guys. Superb job gentlemen.
I've recently had surgery that restored hearing in my right ear. What a blessing to listen to this in full stereo!! Did anyone else hear a high overtone of at least several octaves above Tim's note in that last chord?
I just listened to Rendezvous Quartet's version of this song and I don't know which one I like better. Both leave me in shock by the amazing the vocal blending they achieve. It is amazing that the same song with the same arrangement sung acapella by 2 quartet groups can sound so different. It is apples and oranges and I feel like eating fruit salad. Standing ovation to you Vocal Spectrum. Sensational!
"Go the Distance" is a song from Disney's 1997 animated feature film, Hercules. It was written by composer Alan Menken and lyricist David Zippel, and originally recorded by American actor Roger Bart in his film role as the singing voice of Hercules. American singer-songwriter Michael Bolton recorded a pop version of the song for the film's end credits. so i think i was dead on what i said.
Amazing. Absolutely awe-inspiring. If you just want to vibe this is definitely something I would recommend. It is just such an inspiring song to start with and this performance of it just encapsulates raw talent and emotion that this song can really let shine!
We’re singing this in our Men’s Choir, and on the sheet music, that very last section is actually labeled with “Insanity... this is too high for anybody other than VS”
It's tough, but if they're a good standard then go for it, because if it's sung well (as you can hear) then it sounds amazing. Just make sure you have a long talk with the tenors about breath control for that last note haha.
I just tried doing by myself (I'm a young teenager btw) on Audacity, and I got most of it in time etc., but I had to do it several times, and my control isn't great. But it's not impossible, so go for it!
This is a song by Vocal Spectrum,an international barbershop quartet world champion . Arrangement is from Tim Waurick, the tenor, thus the mostly tenor melody and that awesome last note is indeed all Tim. He is known for long notes besides being an awesome arranger and he can sing all four barbershop parts for a demo tape, He has quite a few songs on here. Has performed classical music as well and has sung in many countries and Carnegie Hall too! Not bad for someone from Missouri !! Check out Vocal Spectrum's " Bring Him Home" featuring Tim as well. Google Vocal Spectrum for their website and contact info.
Hi Gary, I really admire Tim because he is one of the most talented singers I ever knew...but this arrangement has been written by Aaron Dale, not by Tim. Probably you can buy the perfect Teachtracks Tim sung (all four voices!). And without having the music in front of me, I am quite sure hearing Eric's beautiful voice (the lead singer of Vocal Spectrum) singing the melody...
The words are "the gods" in the film, and "my god" in the Michael Bolton version. While personally I prefer the former ("gods" rhymes better with "odds"), the latter gets used in a capella versions more often, because it's adapted from the Michael Bolton version (the film version omits the verses and has dialogue over where they were).
What I loved the most was "I will please my God" they're being so open about their faith :D Oh the ringing of the chord at the end is absolutely beautifulllll
the ringing -- and the whole rendition -- are fantastic! As for the "god" lyric...the song is from a movie where there are many gods...singers have sung versions of this with the word singular or plural, in neither case is it necessary to be a believer to sing it! I don't think the voice actor from the movie who sang it as "gods" is pagan, for example...But from what I've read these guys are monotheists, so their singing "god" makes sense.
No, he swaps with Eric at "But to look beyond the glory" at 2:27, have a listen, and you should hear the change in the voice singing the melody, cos Eric and Tim's voices sound very different.
Yeah!! I was looking at the sheet music and wondering who's singing that, or better yet, who even could sing that. The last chord's just amazing as a whole! Even the high f is super hard to hit!
I love this song! My favorite version of the song over the original version! These guys are amazing! I want to find the lyrics and sheet music for it so I can learn it! Acapella is awesome
Its actually a different system in the following order from highest to lowest (generally): Tenor (High), Lead (Melody), Baritone (Bridges Between melody and Bass/Tenor), Bass (Low)
TBH whenever I see this picture I think of Sean Plott (cuz, you know he kind of looks like him). Singing and Day[9] are two of my favorite things, so this vid hits the feels.

Who I thought was the lead singer ended up actually being the tenor. My mistake. It is Tim Waurick, phenomenal singer.
It just doesn't matter how many times I hear this. Those final 30 seconds make my toes curl every time.
It's called an eargasm.
that weird
Wow barbershop acapella at its finest, unbelievable arrangement, I'm blessed to have sung the lead and I treasure every moment of the memory and I'm still singing along, also classics Railroad Rag and For the Longest Time
its been a decade but this is so beautiful still
THAT BASS!!! KILLING THE GAME!
I successfully posted the last note on lead without breathing for the second time today! Super proud of myself.
Not that hard tho!
Not that hard if you hyperventilate for the 4 measures leading up to the post. Otherwise you're fucked.
congrats!
@@Player-ys6mn wow thanks :/
its actually really easy lol. not to let you down
Every time I hear this arrangement I wish I had the lungs of that tenor
I did in high school. Then I started smoking. Yup.
No one has the lungs of that tenor! I'm pretty sure he is Kryptonian
That post at the end is the lead
@@mavrcva9313 Actually its not the lead holding that post. It is the lead part but Tim Waurick the tenor switches parts with the lead Eric Dalbey to hold the post and Eric takes the high point for the end
that's Tim Waurick, one of the best barbershop tenors around. He's the guy that posts the note at the end of the song for 30+ seconds
I've watched this video over 100 times, and it still does not cease to amaze me.
I thought whoever did the last note was gonna pop like the bluebird from Shrek!
AWESOME, GUYS!
It just reminded me of the Bug's Bunny episodes where his glove continues to conduct the opera singer, lol!
His name is Tim waurick if you didnt know or cared after 4 years lol
Brandon

That last harmony is just magnificent!
HOLY CRAP THAT ENDING BLEW MY MIND!!!!!!!
This gives me chills....This version never fails to lift my spirits! Thank you Vocal Spectrum!
Right, just needs to hold it for 10 more seconds or so... We're half way there.
It's unbelievable how good this is!
If you've got enough breath support it is possible, but to do it at that dynamic for that long is very impressive.
That last note...I WOULD DIE!
That can be arranged
AriochStarr
Well that's not nice :/
***** To be honest, after a bit of practice and some warming up, you would be able to hit that note for at least 30 seconds, maybe even higher
Matt Bellamy If you can hang on to Tim's volume and tone for that long, you may have some real barbershop potential. Tim Waurick is an absolute beast.
agreed
Just don't understand why other covers have more views than this one

I love the notes in this song! The dynamics are amazing! They are truly the best!
Chills! I got CHILLS from this! :D I always loved the song and this is just amped in every way.
Spine tingling harmonies - so fantastic!
this is a truly spectacular, truly beautiful a capella. brings me to tears every time.
I have listened to this twelve times today. I hate you, Vocal Spectrum.
God given talent. Absolutely amazing. Overtone, not a shake not a crack, Incredable vocal power/lung capacity. Im dumbfounded! AMAZING!
What an incredible performance!
Please don't compare them to glee. That is a slap in the face.
Huzzah a man of quality
i miss watching these guys! they sound this amazing when they are rehearsing too!
I got non-stop chills throughout this whole video. Absolutely amazing.

WOW!!! No words can describe how awesome that was
Just started doing this with my barbershop quartet, so much fun!!
The tag is so iconic
The ending is just too good. holy cheezus!
My goosebumps have goosebumps. That was awesome!
pure eargasm. holy shit that tenor.
Just a quality song and outstanding harmony...love it!
Absolutely breathtaking! (For real--I think I was holding MY breath for the length of the tag!)

I just saw a group of school boys do it well, so if your choir is good, it should be within their reach.
I just tried doing by myself (I'm a young teenager btw) on Audacity, and I got most of it in time etc., but I had to do it several times, and my control isn't great. But it's not impossible, so go for it!
if you can that is :D
Is this one of you people?
so awsome, powerful and beautiful
Ugh the bass line is soooooooo sawesome in this song!!!
I just don't understand why this isn't on the radio all the time rather than the other crap that's on now... Music like this can be called Music
You guys are great! Perfect harmony and pitches!
I couldn't close my mouth at the end !!!!!
Amazing and one of my favorites!
Amazing... You sing very good !! Your voices are woderfuls !!
This gives me an eargasm every time!
That base...wow...
Clean and oh so accurate. Kudos, men!

Trust me, nothing feels better than posting an A that soars through the tag, but sometimes you've gotta know the limits!
it's not edited. it's the tenor, tim waurick and he is most likely the greatest tenor in barbershop history.
DAMN that bass is ridiculous!
this is so awesome
Wow! Wonderful sound
Simply brilliant - well done!
:,) crazy chills this song gave me!! I absolutely love it!
Incredible !
dear god, that was awesome!
Just lovely. Enough said.
Did you really have to choose such an unflattering picture? haha
Love this sound. LOVE!!
love this song! they're great
I'd like to be 30 years younger and have Tim's lungs. Hell I'd take just one of them. Absolutely awesome.

I've heard a lot of people do this, and this... Is good.
Pure music talent and not heavily influenced by autotune!
This should have more views
This is crazy good.
ZOMG - that final chord!!!
It's a crying shame you have such a terrible picture to such a beautiful song and such an incredible presentation. You guys are wonderful.
That Tenor....wow!!!!
holy shit. That last note from the tenor.
Tim Waurick (pictured centre in the video) is not human. His range is just outrageous.
Yup. Tim is just other worldly!
i wish i could hold the ab without the falsetto... one of the best versions of the song! spectacular!
Electrifying!!
No, he swaps with Eric at "But to look beyond the glory" at 2:27, have a listen, and you should hear the change in the voice singing the melody, cos Eric and Tim's voices sound very different.
holy shit that one guy owned his last note! that was unbelievable O_O
i just found the music to this song... this arrangement GAHHHHH WINN!!!!!!!!!!!
Yeah!! I was looking at the sheet music and wondering who's singing that, or better yet, who even could sing that. The last chord's just amazing as a whole! Even the high f is super hard to hit!
that final chord is godly... Zeus would be proud :D
I love this song! My favorite version of the song over the original version! These guys are amazing! I want to find the lyrics and sheet music for it so I can learn it! Acapella is awesome
I got tingles up and down my spine. :)
he does it live for even longer :) he does multitracks and the longest he ever held was 52 seconds and he wrote the tag around it
for the first time today I heard the baritone because I wasn't paying attention to the melody or the bass, and it sounds beautiful ;_;
In my choir, we had barbershop singers come and teach us about barbershop and they played this and taught us a tag
Its actually a different system in the following order from highest to lowest (generally): Tenor (High), Lead (Melody), Baritone (Bridges Between melody and Bass/Tenor), Bass (Low)
I would give anything to have a score for this! Arranger is brilliant!
I like how under the video it says "no description available." That seems strangely appropriate.
